The most egregious part of this - aside from the death faux pas - is that MTP is the premier Sunday political talk show - watched by politicos everywhere. And anyone who watches regularly or even semi-regularly hears Russert mention his ALIVE Dad every other week in some way - only second to his Buffalo Bills. Anyone knowing of these regular shout-outs would also know that the day Big Russ does pass, Russert would likely devote a significant mention of same. HOW ON EARTH DOES A TOP POLITICAL OPERATIVE NOT WATCH MTP ENOUGH TO KNOW THIS?!? Especially one who pandered by claiming to have read the Russert books that address a lot of time to Big Russ. There was a double faux pas - in that, in the same breath as not knowing Russert's father was still alive - Terry was also saying that he doesn't watch the show much. Brilliant take. My only disagreement is I think holding back is calculated. After NH waterworks and cries of boys' bullying and pushing back as betraying his message - he realized he had to be uniquely positioned to deliver the death blow.
A subtle brand of rope-a-dope - voters have become so disgusted by Clinton's negativity and ready for the process to end and aware of mathematical impossibilities - that stepping on the campaign's neck will be called a fair response perhaps minimizing the number of her supporters that reject him. With the epic litany of Clinton nasties and gelling conventional wisdom that she's responsible for the campaign's negativity (see NYT editorial and negatives), he'll wield that Ali-esque grace you describe - much different than a Tyson move.
He's shown himself to be the properly restrained gentleman - not the angry black man the Clintons were trying to bait him into being. When she's 'gently' shoved from the ring, it'll be seen as a measured response. We saw this tactical change at the end of the PA primary w/ sharper return jabs and seismic waves of money.
Just like his stellarly-run campaign predicted near exactly all wins and losses (see Russert's inside campaign notes - but for one), they anticipated the depth of their opponent's negativity potential and had this strategy . Not only is Newsom straight - but he's been involved in quite the sex scandals of late - got caught cheating on his wife Kimberly Guilfoyle of former CourtTV anchor fame (they're now divorced) - his ex- also happens to be CA uber-feminist lawyer Gloria Allred's daughter (prob very active in CA politics state-wide). Further proof of her parents' character deficiency. MSNBC's David Shuster who took 'sniper fire' for the 'pimping out' comment was apparently prescient. Anyone remember during Bill's stint & specifically when Monica-gate was exploding - that poignant pic of Chelsea between them - holding Bill & Hil's hand while walking to board Marine One to Camp David? She's allowed to do town halls & such but no media interaction? Both ways out of both sides of their mouths - they always want it. I feel for her - but she's old enough to say no. And if we remember, before Hil's campaign was in the ditch - she obviously shunned the trail - that is until they dragged her into this quag b/c Obama became a force to be reckoned w/ after stunning them in IA & this was their lame attempt to connect w/ all the young'uns who have en masse gravitated to Obama. You are a class act and have been one of my heroes for as long as I can remember. You don't have to explain a damn thing & both countries are lucky to share you. Your contribution to women's rights in this country mean you shouldn't have to defend a thing about where your heart is - w/ humanity. I have a special memory of you - as a young black girl growing up in Queens, NY - learning to play w/ a sawed-off, adult racquet & sent to free summer tennis camp w/ the USTA - we went to the US Open every year & I'll never forget when it was still at Forest Hills and my Mom walked me up to you on a practice court & you chatted for much longer & w/ much more encouragement than you had to & signed whatever memento I had. Flash to the Open last year now @ Flushing Meadows & you were strolling w/ Pam Shriver -- & w/ my Dad I happened upon you sans entourage stopping to chat & take photos w/ whomever asked. There's just one minor/major problem in your construct - it wasn't 'liberal' elites but 'cranks' for Nader that betrayed the party in 2000. And truth be told, kinda like the 'Bill problem' - the real infidelity rests w/ the 'Anti-liberal elites' you described - who abandoned us once before to become 'Reagan Dems' and I suspect some Bushie 1st termers as well. So forgive us if the 'faithful' part of the spousal equation is no longer willing to trust the cheaters. Much like the Orwellian/Clintonian campaign, you confuse Obama's description of truth w/ myth. Look at the facts dude - much like the math - who went negative & who simply responded - in the end like the numbers it will be irrefutable.
