I am a left leaning civil libertarian and I am socially liberal and fiscally moderate.
I have voted for Libertarians, Greens, Independents, and Democrats.
The two party dominance over our country has to change. Obama is the change we need right now to get the Neo-Conservative Republicans out of power, but in the future we need to get away from the power struggle that two parties have over our country. The only way true government responsibility will happen is to have more independents and other parties in our state and national Legislatures. We also need to abolish the Electoral College for presidential elections. The power of the people will only be enhanced if every person's vote counts. As it is right now, many people dont bother voting because they believe their vote will not matter because their state significantly favors one party. The only way this will change is to get rid of the Electoral College.
This link contains a great article on the Electoral College:

Social Conservatism is just another word for social control. Social conservatives that try and legislate their beliefs on the rest of humanity only want to control the people. If you are a social conservative and keep your beliefs to your private life, that is great. If you are trying to legislate your beliefs, you are only a control freak.
I believe in equal civil rights for EVERY person.
Gay marriage should not have to be "illegal" or "legal". It should be an automatic and basic right of anyone that wishes it.
I am a firm supporter of our civil liberties, internet freedom, and removing corporate control from our government.
The federal government is supposed to protect the citizens. They cannot do that if they legislate at the whims of big corporations and not by the people.
The environment should be protected by non-profit protection groups with the help of the Federal Government. When protection is solely in the hands of most big corporations or the Federal Government (i.e national forest land) they are only in it for profit and cannot be trusted to do what is best for the environment.
I believe in removing income taxes and replacing it with a national sales tax - it is the fairest tax of all - there are no loopholes (for the wealthy) to get out of paying taxes, as the person is taxed at the point of purchase of a product. Lower income people can get a tax rebate to help them offset that higher purchase price.
Religion (and a belief in god) is supposed to be a guiding force in the believers lives. It is not supposed to be a controlling force. Religion should be kept out of government because when it is hand in hand with government it is used for controlling the people. If one wants that in their personal life - that is fine. It stops being fine when you want to use it to legislate and control what a person can do with their life.
Most people that say they are pro-life are hypocrites. You can only be pro-life if you support all life. Which means you also must be opposed to war and capital punishment. If you say you are pro-life and dont believe in all life you are actually anti-choice. You only wish to control what everyone else can do.
