Since Bad Government Costs the Same as Good, Let's Choose Good

i remember having trouble thinking in terms so-called conservatives used as they swift boated and spred fear to their constituents. i see the same happening here. while i am nothing close to being conservative, i do not equate the boogey men such as bush, mccain, rove, cheney with what i refer to as a conservative ideology. i would think that if this election is about "change", then this change can never be rhetorical. i also think there is more than enough room in a stated progressive agenda for conservative thought as well. when will the pitifully divisive demonizing end? posted 06/30/2008 at 09:01:49

Oh I Get It, The Left Just Doesn't Want to Win This Year

and what's behind curtain number 3, monte? why, it's "none of the above"! i think i'll rest easier for a while when i make my statement in the voting booth that says i have absolutely no faith in either candidate to do what is right for the american people. posted 06/27/2008 at 12:31:54

My Conversation with Antonin Scalia

"The United States of America represents the world's best chance for a stable democracy...." with all due respect, not any more. posted 06/25/2008 at 10:00:21
"If citizenship is now defined as having arbitrary application of rights and protections, the definition of what an enemy combatant is, becomes subject to the same discretion of courts, politicians and bureaucrats."

i don't recognize the constitution as being liberal or conservative. nor do i recognize, based on a their agendas, the constitution as being up to either interpretation.

"...since the enactment of the Patriot Act, the lines of "Due Process" no longer exist for anyone, who has the misfortune to be labelled an enemy combatant. In an era of unbridled government usurpation of reach and scope, is there any doubt that such a designation will soon apply to selective alleged crimes, committed on home ground, by rebellious citizens when it suits the "War of Terror" on America."

if the so-called patriot act had been enacted 30 years ago and allowed (which will no doubt be) to be honed over a few decades, imagine what constitutional law would look like. how many more rights are you willing to sacrifice? i'm no liberal and this is not a liberal concept, nor is it a conservative one. posted 06/25/2008 at 09:57:44

George Carlin: An Irish Mensch

i don't know. there is so much to glean from george carlin, and for a knucklehead like me maybe it takes a lifetime to get it. maybe the bizzyness of life allowed for me to avoid an issue as thought provoking and perhaps life changing. dunno yet. i'm grateful to mr carlin for pointing it all out in a way that made me piss my pants. and thanks for your comment, i agree. posted 06/24/2008 at 01:22:54

Obama Raises $22 Million In May

i'm going to take a risk and paddle towards the deep end of the pool where you seem to be wading, tn (love the moniker and with respect) and say you may be misguided. the election is a few months away, and by golly some people may tend to get a little panicky. by that time obama, and his lovely wife, will have been accused of being baby-eaters many times over. that huge traditional bloc of conservative voters are extremely concerned, in fact this concern should manifest into a kinda-sorta death fright come november. will these desperate voters turn to bob barr? i say no, because the scenario that happened in the '04 election is happening once again, only in reverse. mcgramps, regardless of age or verbal flatulence, will garner a good majority of frantic votes as the lesser of evils. i say its going to be much closer, and the end result may not be to your liking. posted 06/21/2008 at 11:32:13

House easily passes compromise surveillance law

by your moniker i can assume that you are. posted 06/21/2008 at 02:34:09
with respect, to replace a dem (or a repub) with another one will never solve this problem. posted 06/21/2008 at 02:30:18
so the question may be "who's safer, and safer in what context?" i'm with anybody here wanting to take these "people" on. the time is way past not only to turn the heat on politicians and our government, but corporations as well. whoever is part of this ongoing travesty has got to be made to feel extremely uncomfortable and downright queazy over the thought of walking outside of their doors each and every day. i'm not advocating any sort of violence or physical harm and i never would. but, just as they continue to take away from us, so shall they reap what they sow. downright biblical, ain't it? posted 06/20/2008 at 23:14:00
most captions concerning this bill refer to it as a compromise. poor democratic leadership, what a position to be in. they, and republicans, chip away at our constitutional rights and i guess we're suppose to simpathize. how strange that in this time in history when our so-called leadership goes forth amongst the world to preach the gospel of freedom they continue to do the reprehensible. how strange that most allow this, going so far as to make excuses and enabling their elected representatives the latitude to diminish the future. how sad and pathetic. posted 06/20/2008 at 22:07:44

James Carville, Mary Matalin Break Down On Set Over Tim Russert's Death

i'm not saying you're wrong but how would you know? we see somebody on the television for an hour or so each week and then profess to know who they are? i find it kind of odd that ohbigwoo's argument would be cast aside so easily because it's more than valid; the relationship between politicians, government, media and hollywood is far more incestuous than anyone should be comfortable with. posted 06/17/2008 at 20:30:33
same here. while it's perfectly understandable that his family and friends would grieve over his loss i don't get the rush to televise this "grief" exhibited by those in tvland. it's far too narcissistic and suspect. posted 06/17/2008 at 20:17:55

Tim Russert Dies At Age 58

fox withstanding, there were only a handful of shows similar to his, so to this i say because he kept the topics moving he was good at what he did. i can't say i understand what others are saying here because it wasn't too long ago that most comments indicated a deep sense of loathing for him. perhaps reactions akin to a spectator's sport, eh?

personally and politically, i gave up watching mr russert because i found it increasingly difficult to get the info i wished for. thus, i turned toward the internet for more varied points. as a source of information his show was disheartening to say the least. but it must be pointed out that on occasion he would take a guest to task. for his efforts i suppose he should be given some amount of respect. yet, from the standpoint of providing a service to his viewership, i don't find this to be a loss.

my condolences to his family. posted 06/13/2008 at 19:47:21
