Don't be too hasty in praising Sen. Corker! When he was running for the Senate against Harold Ford, he waited over a week before he "denounced" the racist "Call Me" ad run by the TN GOP! This contest between Hillary and Obama is more than a contest of race vs. gender; it's a battle between significantly different views on foreign policy and, also, for the direction of the future Democratic Party!
Will the Party remain in the grip of the DLC "Blue Dog"/Republican-Lite/corporate-lobbyist Dems, OR, will the new generation of younger Progressives/Populists assume greater dominance? Will the Party continue the ideology which has cost Dems the loss of the Presidency so many times in recent decades, or are we willing to take a chance--a leap of faith--and choose a different direction?
It was rather frightening to hear this a.m. several "centrist" DLC Dems speaking on the MSM, casting doubt on Obama's judgement for being willing to diplomatically engage our "enemies", as well as raising doubt on Obama's "appeal" to the "white working classes" (as if they have cared themselves)! It appears there's a movement within the Democratic DLC leadership to perpetuate Hillary's "elitist" slam against Obama. I, for one, find this Rovian tactic very revulsive!

As far as what I think "is coming down": it seems pretty clear from many other sources(both here and in Europe) and events we're seeing that the stage is being set for an air attack on Iran BEFORE the election, not only because Repubs think it will assure their keeping the White House, but it is the #1 agenda of the Likud Party in Israel and the Jewish lobbies here to get this done before the Bush/Cheney administration leaves office, as they believe that any successor will not have the "cajones" to do it! Seymour Hersh has written much about this, and it apparently is being prepared for in the Pentagon.

I'm a Tennessee native and love my state for its natural beauty and the easy-going friendliness of most of its people. BUT, in many parts of TN, especially the East, there's still a LARGE element of those "hard-workin' white people" (HRC code word) who say they will never vote for a black person (only they use another term)! And yes, unbelieveably, most of them go to their Bible-thumpin', close-minded churches every Sunday,--- "praisin' the Lard", singing "Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world",---- yet fall for the kind of TRASH ads the GOP puts out here exploiting their latent bigotry and fear of anybody "different"! West Virginia NEVER MATTERED ONE WHIT all last year when Hillary assumed she would have the nomination all wrapped up by Super Tuesday, winning all the "big" states. You are right about the southern Democrats, who did oppose the Civil Rights Act. Republican objections to MLK were mostly related to the general attitude that he was a "Communist", bent on upsetting our social order and generating a threat to our government. Hearing Hillary's "heart-wrenching, touching" Friday speech on MLK seemed just a bit too melodramatic to me. Call me overly cynical, but I question the story of her meeting Dr. King, as well as her "book sachel"-throwing reaction to news of King's death! Based on what I have read, the so viciously reviled Pastor Wright and his Trinity Church were doing just that: preaching against social injustices/inequities, against unjust wars of aggression, advocating for individual and community responsibility, advocating national policies of peace instead of violence, for a return to valuing people over greed and profit. In my opinion, both Clintons should have known from the beginning that her candidacy, i.e. the ascendency of a THIRD term Clinton co-Presidency, would return this country to the divisiveness of the 90's again!
