So what? Another non issue to create a stir about? Nothing else going on in the world?
If you want to show respect for someone, do it while they are alive. Dead, buried, cremated; they could care less - it means absolutely nothing - build a pyre and burn them in the front yard.
Anyone who has ever had a pet or relative, friend, whatever cremated knows they are getting ashes back that represent that loved person or pet. They are told that *other* ashes might be mixed in. What the hell difference does it make in a country where we send our young people to be slaughtered for oil? If you want to show respect for people, you don't send them to kill other people over oil. Gasp! Oh my gosh, there might be a flake of fido mixed in with "our hero."

Not only is it costing us in the pocketbook, statistics show that these young parents (when the sperm donor ever bothers to stick around) overwhelmingly make bad choices in other areas of their lives ALSO, so their kids will too often end up (if they survive the boyfriend babysitters) on drugs, in gangs, ignored, shunned, pushed aside and guess who gets to finance their lives?

Again, politicians trying to make a big deal out of absolutely nothing.
Actually, the big deal is that politicians will jump on anything to keep inane conversation going as it prevents REAL issues being dealt with and those are of course the war, health care, poverty, education, corporate welfare, and on and on. bush, cheney, and the rest of the conspirators in this biggest rape of America need to be tried and put in prison. Every time I see one of their smirking faces all I can think is they cannot wait to get out of office and thoroughly enjoy their ill-gotten gains. These people are not patriots - they are traitors. Genocide in Iraq? I'm supposed to think they give one rat's ass? Why is genocide in Iraq any different than the genocide that is going on in Tibet or Africa or in a hundred other places around the globe? Yet half of our budget goes to producing weapons of war and I PROTEST my tax dollars being spent on a murder plan bush, cheney, and the rest of the true "axis of evil" came up with in their private little repuglican design to own the world.
I want that money freed up now to take care of the disaster those monsters created right here in what used to be the greatest country on earth. Why does everyone assume that because a person has a terminal illness, it is all they want to talk about ?
A person who is dying, isn't dying right now. She is living. Live with her. Be the friend you've always been and don't try to be Mother Teresa - if she needs to open up, that is HER decision, not yours; if she feels safe with you, she will.
Do not ask curiousity questions. Just be there, either still and calm, or willing to have a beer or watch sappy movies or play video games or whatever. The time to work out your own feelings about death is NOT when you are with your friend. Do it before or after, or right now is a good time.
Volunteer at a hospice, take grief counseling training, read Kubler-Ross or Ram Dass, whatever helps you through this. Try not to make assumptions based on your fear. Death is nothing at all - fear is the enemy, and it's contagious. posted 03/27/2008 at 20:49:58
