$7.5 Billion is spent EVERY year on just Cannabis eradication.....

Peter Schrag: As fires rage, the law protects us from marijuana

Almost anybody who's lived in California for even a few years knows from where that acrid smell in the air and the yellow haze in the sky have been coming. And we know the scary feeling that comes with them. The only exceptions are the narcs, state and federal, who think it's marijuana smoke.

As California's wildfires overwhelm the resources to fight them, federal and state agents " hundreds of them " have been sweeping through Humboldt County and a sliver of Mendocino County in pursuit of commercial pot growers.

An FBI spokesman was quoted in the Eureka Times-Standard last week as saying that 450 agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration and other federal agencies would be executing 27 search warrants in what they called "Operation Southern Sweep." But, he said, they wouldn't be going after medical marijuana dispensaries or their patients. "We're not here to set policy or interfere with California's compassionate use."

well, i do not disagree. Activists and just people fail to see the big picture, most often times and fail to look at ALL the intended and unintended consequences to what they demand................usually until either themselves or those close to them are affected.

The War on Drugs is exampled. Since the beginning, More than a Trillion Tax Dollars spent on Complete and total waste and has in fact, Increased the problem, yet it rages on, costing more Billions Every year.

it does seem tho, if you have been assisting police etc via recordings going Far back...then is it/was it necessary, (for the "right" reasons) to expand this invasion of our rights?

BO, what will you do to restore those lost rights? Will you even consider "righting the wrongs"? When has power ever been given back to the Public once it has been acquired by Gov't????? posted 07/06/2008 at 12:57:19

We must set up a system where the wathers are watched. We do not have that now. If real time history tells you nothing, then.........

"The United States spends an estimated $60 billion [30] each year on corrections. It costs an average of $88 dollars a day per prisoner.[citation needed"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prison-industrial_complex

"IMPORTING AND EXPORTING INMATES:
Profits are so good that now there is a new business: importing inmates with long sentences, meaning the worst criminals. When a federal judge ruled that overcrowding in Texas prisons was cruel and unusual punishment, the CCA signed contracts with sheriffs in poor counties to build and run new jails and share the profits. According to a December 1998 Atlantic Monthly magazine article, this program was backed by investors from Merrill-Lynch, Shearson-Lehman, American Express and Allstate, and the operation was scattered all over rural Texas. That state's governor, Ann Richards, followed the example of Mario Cuomo in New York "

Marijuana, Battle Veterans and the VA
Dr. Phil Leveque Salem-News.com

The VA is more dangerous than a battle in Iraq.
Salem-News.com
Salem-News.com

(MOLALLA, Ore.) - It appears that battle veterans are getting it in the neck again (I'm saying this because this is a family Website).

Around June 1st 2008, The Charleston North Carolina, Gazette newspaper reported four battle veterans with PTSD dying from prescriptions given them by VA clinics. The medications wrere Paxil, Klonopin and Seroquel.

The father of one of the victims, Stan White, researched this and found eight more dead victims in the Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia area. This doesn't seem to bother the VA but we/somebody should question on what is going on. As a physician/pharmacist and victim of VA hospital medical abuse, I think I know what is causing these deaths and I believe these reports are the "tip of the iceberg". Whoever is "taking care" of these battle veterans and I believe it is psychologists or social workers rather than physician/psychiatrists.

We know what has been tried has failed the American people. What Return did you realize on your tax dollar investment in this war against the American People?
Here is the answer. Remember...The WOD's was to rid society of Drugs.

There are More drugs, available on the streets and in our schools than ever.

Drugs today are more pure and dangerous than ever.

The drugs are cheaper than ever.

More than 600,000 die from Legal drugs annually compared to just 17,000 fatalities from ALL Illegal Drugs Combined!

Do You believe we are focusing on the right issues? Do you believe You are safer at night as you go to sleep under this Current Drug Policy?
Current Policy is Not protecting either of us, but there have been substantial Profits realized for;
BigPharma (they know the medical value)
The Prison Industry
Courts
Rehabilitation facilities (where you go and Pay as a condition of sentencing)
Manufacturers of Drug Testing Supplies
Labs
Facilities who administer the Drug Tests
Beer/Alcohol Industries Do Not want Cannabis as Competition
Law Enforcement Budgets, State, Local, Federal and Counties.
Lobbyists assigned to Maintain Current Policies
Law Makers who realize "perks" from the Lobbyists....

this crap does Nothing to deter drug trafficking. It serves to keep the Black Market price UP ..not down and your net ROI is an Increase in Crime!

So the Law Enforcement Orgs Plea for More budget Money to "fight crime"...
Hire More officers...yet Sex offenders and bank robbers serve Less time than non-violent drug offenders...
If Drugs were Legalized and made available to addicts via clinics, in tandem with treatment it will allow for those who Would be incarcerated to continue working (paying taxes), it would not tear families apart (reduce dependence on social services) and provide education for the whole family (harm reduction) posted 06/12/2008 at 09:51:26

The "it's for the kids" BS is not gonna work, Not anymore! In states where Cannabis Patients are protected under State Laws, Teen use has Dropped. "they" don't know why, but it is fact.

I suspect the "forbidden mystery" is gone. Education has worked.

Take Nicotine for example.

This year more than 400,000 will die from this Legal Drug. As the next generation follows, these fatalities will begin to decrease because we have strongly educated our children. The next generation will follow suit with even greater reduction of Nicotine related fatalities due to More education.
It's called Harm reduction through prevention and education. Kids today are making "Informed Decisions" and are not Consuming this deadly drug.

there are More than 600,000 Deaths each year from Legal drugs, while conversely, All Illegal drugs combined, annual deaths are just 17,000.

this is not a partisan issue...it goes to double standards. the one thing the Feds did do was remove THC (the psychoactive compound in Cannabis) from the Federal Schedule I classification, to a federal Schedule II drug to Allow BigPharma to synthesize and Manufacture Marinol and Cesamet prescription drugs. the average cost to a patient is about $1800.00 paid, of course, to BigPharma.

This Gov't does recognize the Medical benefit of Cannabis and is proved by that fact.

So if the rest of the plant has nothing in it to get you high, How does Cannabis still qualify for Schedule I criteria?

Marinol and Cesamet type medications do work for some but the majority of patients report nasty side effects, overdosing, stomach cramping and o on. The whole Plant in its natural form holds around 400 vital compounds that work towards healing and symptom relief for a wide variety of ailments. In addition, science shows us that it may prevent colon cancer, breast cancer, assist Alzheimer's patients in retention of memory and in 1974, the Gov't hid research that proved the cancer fighting Benefits of Cannabis.

Cannabis Prohibition is wrong and it has failed.

When will Cannabis become a matter of health care and not a political issue? posted 06/10/2008 at 19:01:42

for those who use this valuable medicine, your rational approach is most welcome.

for those of us tired of the $76.5 Billion Tax Dollars wasted annually on just Cannabis eradication, perhaps we can divert those monies towards education, treatment and prevention to increase a practice we should all be using and that is making an informed decision before we consume Any substance...legal/illegal, prescribed, and food products as well.

$7.5 Billion, in part could be used for creating a lot of jobs, go towards health care, and so on.

Further more, if Cannabis were taxed and regulated the US could be getting more than $41,000,000,000.00 in New Tax revenue, annually.

Barney Frank Ignites Congress for Common Sense

Cannabis is medicine. The Law and the Federal Schedule I classification is ridiculous and its costing us $7.5 billion annually, just for Cannabis eradication.

Science has More than proved the Federal Policies wrong, that Cannabis is dangerous, addictive and has no medical value.

Mr. Frank, thank you! If you were to take it further, Tax it and regulate it our gov't would realize more than $40,000,000,000.00 in New tax revenue, annually. It would reduce crime, free up valuable Law Enforcement resources and provide jobs.

Industrial Hemp would be environmentally and economically sound, also creating Lots of jobs.

It is past time to stop enforcing laws that the people do not want enforced.
It is irresponsible to continue down the path we are on. Cannabis Prohibition has failed. posted 06/09/2008 at 23:02:44

Rice: Race Still Issue Because Of U.S. "Birth Defect"

she is right that early America used slaves. i believe Most of us do know that.

i also understand that WE, in the "Here and Now" do not enslave people and We were not "there, then", but today, the Big $$$$$ Corporations her administration supports, Does. just look to your paycheck VS. Big Business profit margins VS. the cost of everything.

Are the pubs that disparate that they have to reach THAT far back to try to fuel the race issue? are "they" finding out, We the People are far advanced of their agenda? Please consider the Big Picture as you choose, this "spoilers attitude" is Rovian, are you really gonna drink THAT koolaid......Again????

the PUBS want us to do this very thing, get so pissed our choice of candidate was not nominated that we vote for mcbane...its his ONLY chance of winning.

As you review either Dem Candidates performance, REMEMBER WE are only shown Exactly what the Media wants us to see, to leave us with an "illusion" of doubt, uncertainty.....OR complete trust, admiration for whom "they" want US to want and despair over the "less favorable"

Not many of us get to be up front and see in person, on a Daily basis just WHO these people are.

It has been so long since we have had such an emotional, interesting, maddening, exciting, difficult, educational and ultimately Rewarding contest. Not to mention the Historical values.

I am a Hillary Supporter, However, I WILL SUPPORT whom-ever wins the Nomination!!!!!!....Just DO NOT call it Over unless and until WE THE PEOPLE get to speak!

It's OK to disagree but PLEASE Don't stop the dialog! NO need to resort to name calling.

Sure, its dragging out.....But Dammit, What An Exciting race.

Lets not forget BigPharma, they Definitely understand the Medical benefits of Cannabis.
Cannabis is naturally occurring and cannot be marketed. Cannabis. as an Herbal Therapy/Medicine realizes its greatest efficacy in its Natural form.

Billion's will be lost by BigPharma as people turn to this natural alternative medicine.

Science has demonstrated many Cancers are prevented and treated using Cannabis Therapeutics, in fact this Gov't knew in 1974 how well it worked against cancer but hid the report. posted 03/23/2008 at 21:44:49
$7.5 Billion Tax dollars spent in 2007, just for Cannabis eradication, 830,000 Cannabis arrests in 2007, Families torn apart and s the sick don't have access without fear of prosecution and arrest..

Is the public any Safer? NO.

Did you get any ROI (return on investment) from your Lawmakers investment of your tax dollars? NO.

if Cannabis were taxed and regulated it would generate about $31,000,000,000.00 in NEW tax revenue, create jobs and if Hemp were included in Congressman Frank's Bill, More jobs/industry created, For Americans.

It it PAST time. posted 03/23/2008 at 19:33:53
