Obama Campaign Launches "Vote For Change" Voter Registration Drive

If only we had more Charlie Browns--because, come November, the great and wonderful Democrat named Charlie Brown is going to be holding the Congressional seat of the criminal known as Congressman John Dolittle. posted 05/10/2008 at 19:41:40
Impeachment IS a trial.

I think you are asking for an additional criminal trial. posted 05/10/2008 at 19:38:38

Vito Fossella Cries On House Floor After Drunk Driving, Adultery Revelations

A private matter? The Guy was driving DRUNK, with nearly twice the legal limit of BAC. Furthermore, the bartender called Vito and his friend a TAXi,and the taxi was there and Vito CHOSE to drive instead of take the taxi right in front of him.

How would you be feeling right now if it was your child that drunk driver Vito killed, huh? Personal issue MY ASS.

THAT is not a personal matter my friend. THAT is a legal one. On top of that, he lied to police, another crime.

When he is convicted, he WILL be going to jail for a mandatory five days. FURTHER, if this is not his first conviction, he will be up for felony drunk driving charges, which means that he will be stripped of ALL of his benefits, pension, etc. as a member of Congress, thanks to Duke Cunningham.

His ass is in a whole lot of trouble, and I would be wathing the role the DA in Staten Island might try to play in getting the chargereduced so Vito can go quietly from politics, since, guess who is the number one contener for Vito's congressional seat? Yeah, that's right--the Staten Island DA is the top guy mentioned to replace Vito.

Let's keep eyes open on this one, folks. The possibilities of inside corrupt deals to be made are rife here. posted 05/09/2008 at 00:39:08

James Clyburn Happy to Play His Familiar Part Once More

Glenn:

It's hard for the coded words to pass the smell test, when Obama is not the one with the history of living in the South for many years. The Clintons are.

As far as bamboozled being a coded word, my white grandfather used that term as far back as I can remember, and he was first generation Ny Irish, and he used it in talking about corporations and union busting.

Also, let's note for a moment that Josh Marshall uses the word bamboozlement to describe a whole range of Republican activities, often surrounding the "up is down" aspect of their political activities with regard to social security. Is he using racially coded terms? To what end?

This is a really hard charge to prove, and it seems to me that not only does Sean miss the mark by a wide margin in offering any sort of proof, I wonder why he would want to include it in this piece. It's a specious and fairly despicable accusation. Where's the proof, that either these are coded words, or that there existed a conspiracy to "use them' in the campaign language for this purpose? Is the assertion that Spike Lee defines the English language for all black people? Or how about a factual example of Obama making this case to mostly black audiences?

While I agree about Jesse Jackson Jr.'s remarks being utterly asinine, there's much here in Sean's most serious assertions that fail the reasonable person test. posted 04/30/2008 at 16:48:05
Hilarious. Great sense of humor to interject in this tense thread!

Unfortunately, I can't get the hyperlink to work in the comments section, even with correct HTML code, so I will just provide the web addy, and ask that if you know of some trick to make hyperwork link in the comments, as it does in blogposts, that would be a big help. Here's the hyperlink linky goodness: http://www.techterms.com/definition/hyperlink

Enjoy.

As for Monique: The onus is not on the reader, it's on the writer, to prove the case s/he asserts. Absent that, it just to me to be gossip, not actual fact-based argument. This link should help you understand the difference: http://www.brainyquote.com/words/ar/argument132220.html posted 04/30/2008 at 16:34:14
Dear Sean,

We have this thing in blogging called "hyperlinking". When you make an accusation, you "hyperlink" to the evidence you are using to gird your assertion. this allows the reader to review original source materials for themselves, and make their own judgement, and engagein fact-based debate with others.

When an author on a blog makes multiple accusations, or in this case, bases an entire post on a conclusion the author is drawing based on a number of alleged incidents perpetrated on another party by a third party, one would expect multiple links. Preferably, a hyperlink per accusation.

Sadly, there are none present in your story. So as a reader, that leaves me with rather serious doubts a to the veracity of any of your accusations, and no opportunity of my own to test your conclusions based on these unsubstantiated accusations.

At best, this is sloppy writing and shoddy journalism. At worst, it misuse your elevated position in a public forum to spread rumors, lies, and innuendo about a United States Senator, who is likely the Democratic nominee for President of the United States.

I'd like to think you can trust your readers with the truth, and so will provide links. If not, i guess we can make our own conclusions about the veracity of your accusations. posted 04/30/2008 at 00:31:28

What's in a Number?

I forgot to add--I hope you are well recovered from your surgery and are feeling better. posted 03/31/2008 at 13:34:43
I'm not certain that the conclusions drawn are necessarily factually correlated to the findings here, but several things seems obvious from the numbers, among them:

40-50 year olds are moving in with their parents. I think the likely cause of this has more to do with being at the sandwich age than finances. Parents may be living longer, but they are not necessarily enjoying good health or are able to be living self-sufficiently.

When the data shows that people in their 20-34 read for pleasure, I am not sure that research correctly defines what pleasure reading is? Does that include blogging, reading online, Im-ing and reading and answering social e-mail? I don't think so. I think that when they are thinking of 10 minutes, they are thinking books, and much of what we would think of as the pleasure reading of yesteryear that could be found in books, we often read online--history, social issues, politics, and current events, thereby skipping the costs of magazines, or trips to the library. Pity that, because habit begets habit, and the good reading to be found in literature is critical to developing and maintaining a thoughtful worldview and creative problem solving. posted 03/31/2008 at 13:32:22
