Depending on family background (yes I know he is Christian), his thinking could be rooted in part of that tradition as opposed to being attributed to taking the standard right-wing position. Groups tend to bring parts of their tradition along with them when they move. Plus sub-continent denotes specific lower geographic areas of the very LARGE Asian continent. I have thought about Russ's statement all day. At first I was angry, then I was dissappointed, now I am much better. I understand that Russ had to say this or the Republicans would have been all over him (i.e., double standard, etc). This was Russ's CYA statement and he most likely told Obama that this was coming due to the absence of blowback from the Obama camp. So now Russ, you have said your piece. We can move forward. AND HERE WE HAVE IT. I predicted this moment. I have blogged about this moment in a general sense. The Media is so undisciplined. The media has waited as long as possible on Obama and his people to bring up Cindy's past, but Obama would not do it. However, over the past two weeks I have noticed pundits saying a little bit more each time about Cindy's past. The media should pull back and not go here. If Obama won't do it, the media should stay as far away as possible from this stuff. It is just nasty stuff. The Media would be better off asking people to do their own research on Cindy and Michelle to determine who is best suited for the role of First Lady. This endorsement represents the anti-Ted Kennedy and anti-Bill Richardson endorsements. Where was Al Gore when Obama needed him? At least, John Edwards got in before the last primary. Good grief. Al Gore's endorsement ranks in the same class as Senators' Byrd and Rockefeller. That is to say, they are useful to put down on paper but none of them played a particularly supportive role in getting Obama the Democratic nomination. However, I must say Byrd and Rockefeller rank slight more important in the scheme of endorsements than Gore.
