Obama Spends 4th Of July In Montana

My wife and I are for Obama, but feel a bit slighted since we're Illiniosians. We're never going to get to see him! (Though we felt lucky when he announced his presidential bid in Springfield - we went the night before with our son and made a great weekend of it).

On the other hand, I know a lot of people who have met him, during his Senate run, etc, and met Michelle - and all say the same: A really nice person who really listens to you and really talks to you. Michelle they like even more - people gush over her! I know people who are voting for her through him! posted 07/05/2008 at 09:31:44

Analysis: Obama's centrist emphasis gives GOP ammo

Very nicely put. posted 07/04/2008 at 16:47:14
He was supposed to not give funding to the troops? How many in Congress decided that was a good thing? Freakin' idiot. posted 07/04/2008 at 16:46:21
To be centrist these days is really to be left, which is why he looks so liberal when he really isn't. He's an old-fashioned Dem on so many things, but the nation has forgotten what that kind of Dem is like and that it used to be okay to be that way. I'm voting for him, but I've never thought he was liberal or left enough, though I certainly have allowed myself fantasies...Oh, Barack, yes, pass real anti-handgun legislation! Yes, that's so good - don't stop!... posted 07/04/2008 at 16:43:57

Officer Injured Guarding Obama

What the hell did you expect Obama to do - carry him on his back to the emergency ward? For pete's sake, the officer was doing his duty, obviously wasn't severely injured and really shouldn't have expected anything more than he got. Cheney would've made sure the van backed up on the guy! posted 07/04/2008 at 16:52:47

It's really easy to know Cindy McCain. We've seen her drones on TV for years:

1 White
2. Rich
3. Able to escape all responsibility for all actions because of 1 & 2
a. Especially if it involves stealing from the non-profit one heads to feed one's drug addiction, an offense that would land all use mere mortals in prison, especially if we happen to be black and poor. posted 07/02/2008 at 11:15:34

McCain Backer's Firm Pleaded Guilty To Funding Terrorist Group In Colombia

We all know that the traditional media won't cover this or, at best, one sad puppy reporter will be sacrificed to ask the GREAT MCCAIN about it. The response:

"Well, my friends, I can't be expected to be responsible for the things that other people do. I just showed up at the fundraiser and took the money. This has nothing to do with me."

And an awkward shrug/hand gesture and away he goes, to have some donuts with the rest of the Good Little Boy Reporter's Club members, mission accomplished! posted 07/02/2008 at 08:43:31

Obama Vows To Expand Bush's Faith-Based Programs

Do you know how difficult it is to be an athiest or even a casual non-believer and work in community outreach, even as a volunteer? The first thing you usually get when you go to one of these organizations is a sermon. And then they ask what church you go to. And if you don't lie to them, you can forget about working with them. I'm not making this up - as an atheist, I've only found one organization in my community that I've been able to work with that doesn't explicitly ask these kinds of questions and have these kinds of requirements. And that's in twelve years of trying! posted 07/01/2008 at 10:12:51
If you think for a second that any religious organization receiving federal funds will allow a little thing like a rule to stop them in their faith-based hiring practices, even in those areas using the allocated funds, you're crazy. They'll just laugh and go on doing what they've always been doing - discriminating! posted 07/01/2008 at 10:09:52
Carol - I love Obama, but this sickens me. This is like watching him toss the Constitution into a bonfire, while holding hands with Bush and Cheney. Absolutely sickening. posted 07/01/2008 at 10:06:46
The problem is that Democrats and liberals operate on a standard and have principles and they hate to see one of their own basically caving in, as this appears. To me, this looks like the sickest kind of pandering.

But the question should be asked - why pander? Because the right has made Obama out to be a godless, heathen, secret-Islamist, terrorist, elitist monster - and it looks like he has to try and prove to the religious morons that he isn't because they can't find Scopes.

I'm sick to my stomach about this. It really hurts to see a principled person throw their principles away. It's like watching McCain on a daily basis. posted 07/01/2008 at 10:05:01
This has been one of the biggest jokes of the jokiest administration in history - millions wasted, thrown away at religious groups for a lie! To help the poor! Hell no - to expand the role of Christianity in American government and end real, valuable social programs. Expanding this is unthinkable! posted 07/01/2008 at 10:01:07
This presents a major issue to me and may derail my support of Obama. After the lies and the war and the corruption of the Constitution, Bush's faith-based initiatives are very disturbing to me. Federal money should not support religious organizations, period, end of discussion as far as I'm concerned. And I think the Founding Fathers would have agreed here.

And allowing any organization, anywhere, to discriminate in hiring, in the United States of America! What the hell is he thinking? Faith based hiring by religious organizations, especially if they receive a single penny of federal monies, is wrong.

I'm biting my tongue on this FISA bull, hoping that as President he has a plan and he's not just pandering or playing to the middle for votes. But this may end my support of him. I can't abide this. But right now I'm really pissed. And I know that he'd be better than McCain. Gawd, I know that. But this? WTF!?! posted 07/01/2008 at 09:58:58

When Rove Calls Obama Arrogant, He Means "Uppity"

Excellent point. I'm a white guy, but a minority white guy in my way, one who by profession should be hanging with the suitandtie crowd, playing golf, sipping those cocktails, but those people make me sick. They have power without responsibility. They abuse power for personal gain constantly. And are they better, smarter, anything more than anyone else? No. In fact, from personal and professional observation, some of the least intelligent, least educated people (especially those with multiple degrees!) I've ever met. One trait they all have, though - ARROGANCE! posted 06/28/2008 at 08:21:16
I agree - once or twice I read a piece going for Obama, but more often than not, he didn't seem then to be for him. And I see nothing wrong with blatantly calling Rove on this. If you got a problem with calling a racist a racist, if you think that's "whining," then you've got bigger problems than this article. posted 06/28/2008 at 08:18:37

McCain Doesn't Work On The Weekends

And we thought Bush took a lot of time off - this is just a hint, I think, of how little work McCain intends to do as President. And why not, when you own a dozen luxury homes scattered across the country. Why stay in Washington and work? At his age? "Highest-Output, Lowest-Cost" Solar Thermal Power System Proposed For California

This is the kind of intitiative I hope to see President Obama (no doubt about putting those two words together in my mind!) take the lead on. The technology either already exists or is just at the cusp of existence. We need only real leadership and vision and, naturally, funding to make this nation - and the world - fossil fuel independent.

There is, already, an identical project working in Spain, supplying power to 6,000 homes. When the Spanish system is complete, it will power 600,000 homes! Think of the Great American Desert (as it has been called) covered with solar mirror power plants. What incredible potential! posted 06/13/2008 at 11:24:18

Maria Bartiromo Warns That Obama Will Hike Taxes, Says Someone Earning $200K/Year Is "Not Rich"

Yeah, 200K is multiple times what my wife and I, with three college degress including a masters between us, make at our "professional, white collar" jobs. I can't even imagine what a COMBINED household income of 200K would be like. We'd be out of debt in half a year, have our home payed off in a few more, and be able to actually retire someday. Right now, we have no expectation of ever retiring. We'll be working until we leave this earthly plane.

Clinton's Convention Strategy In Doubt

Seriously, Hillary cannot win unless the sky falls on Obama. From a pure number viewpoint, he has her completely beat now and it's highly unlikely that will change at all by the convention. The only hope she has is now evidently pinned on these mysterious 25 people. And she believes she will have the full backing of the Dems if she gets the nomination based on a backroom deal swayed by a handful of people over the votes of millions? Could the Republicans Pick the Democratic Nominee? -- The Untold Story of How the GOP Rigged Florida and Michigan

Calling Florida "a level-playing field primary" is assinine. Clinton had decades of name exposure and history to run on in Florida, the same national exposure and history that she assumed made her candidacy inevitable. But as has been repeatedly show, when a contender (let's call him Barack Obama, shall we) stands up and campaigns strongly against her, the sense of the inevitable tends to crumble. Florida was in no way "a level-playing field primary" in this way. Hillary had the field all to herself, which she well knew, and capitalized upon by appearing at fund-raisers, a strange way of stumping without stumping if you ask me. Obama, unlike Clinton, abided by the rules of the DNC, stupid as those rules may be. Clinton, as usual, decided that rules do not apply to her. Just look at what she did during her much-vaunted days on the Watergate investigation, where she was fired for conspiring, theft of documents, attempting to overturn the Constitution.

And how does one really win in a one-person race, as in Michigan? The DNC needs to suck it up here and help Michigan run a real primary, regardless of Obama's objections. Florida is trickier; both candidates were at least on the ballot, regardless of the objections noted above. At best, if the rules allow as I've read, seat half their delegates. posted 04/02/2008 at 09:19:21

Obama Win Appears Big In Texas Delegate Battle

I'd feel sorry for you if I wasn't so busy with my job, with volunteering in my community, with taking care of my family, trying to deal with a parent with Alzheimer's and (thankfully) NOT going to church...except I guess I'm just too busy rigging elections for Obama or something. Jeez, stop whining. Hillary can't win. Accept it like a grown up and think about your options. Do you want to be a big baby and either not vote or be a spiteful jerk and vote for John "Forever War" McCrazy or will you fess up to facts and reality and vote to make a difference!?! It's your choice. Don't pretend it's all being stolen away from you and you have no control over your decision. Hillary has run a shit campaign, simple as that. And she's going to lose or destroy the party trying. That's what you've got to deal with. posted 03/30/2008 at 23:10:57

Should Obama Drop Out of the Race?

His Hillary colors come out when he mentions the magic words - electoral votes! I didn't have health insurance for the entire 90s. I voted for Clinton #1 for that sole reason. I had a fledgling family and we could only afford insurance for my wife and son - insurance that beggared us, hundreds of dollars a month. After rent, utilities, insurance and credit card bills - run up because we had to pay for our food somehow! - we were broke every month. We ate beans and rice every week for years because we couldn't afford anything else. Thankfully I never got sick or we would have been screwed. Hillary wrecked the health care plan the first time around and I cannot believe she could get any legislation of any kind passed now. I didn't vote for Bill a second time. I won't vote for her ever. posted 03/24/2008 at 18:02:10

Clinton Camp: Hillary Misspoke About Her Role In Bosnia

I see two ways to look at this. A lie, aka "mispoken statement" or a real messed up memory. I'm no Hillary supporter, but there is a detail I read a few weeks ago to support the notion that in her head she conflated a few non-simultaneous events to create this fictitious memory. The story I read (and I can't find it right now) had a quote from a military official who said he believed his pilots were showing off when they landed with the First Lady, putting on a show to give her a thrill and add an element of danger to the trip. Stupid if true, but so damn real and human and possible. Add that to real elements of danger and perhaps a little early senior moment on the little girl she met and a completely different memory evolves for Hillary of this occasion. posted 03/24/2008 at 15:53:17
