Jason Ball is a student and political activist that has been active in Southern California at the grassroots level in the environmental movement, the public interest movement, the feminist movement, and the labor movement.
Jason believes that "new left" activism has abandoned tenents of "old left" ideology that will create problems in the ultimate realization of a more just society, namely the role of labor both as an actor in a larger progressive movement and in the primary importance it plays in the lives of every individual. Jason advocates for a "Sustainable Democracy" movement that focuses on environmental and public interest movements but heavily incorporates themes of workplace democratization (through organized labor) as well as economic and social equality.
Jason briefly rose to national prominence when he became the chief spokesperson for student government legislators at Costa Mesa's Orange Coast College who removed the pledge of allegiance from their bi-weekly meeting agendas citing nationalism, the problem of conformist rituals in democratic society, and religious insensitivity as problems inherent in the pledge.
