Bio
I'm a liberal Canadian working my way through a PhD in English Literature. I grew up as the son of an Evangelical Pastor who was liberal back in the days when you could go to hell for that. I'm now married to a female Evangelical Youth Pastor. I go to school with leftists and worship with righties. Although I lean left myself, I value dissent more than any hard ideological stance. On a site like this you might find me coming off as what folks around here like to refer to as a 'troll.' I'm not. I simply don't believe that people on the right are demons and people on the left are saints (or vice versa). At church I try to chip away at the 'holier than thou' attitudes that continue to persist; at grad school, I do the same from the other side. I avoided joining HuffPo for a long while because my impression was that it could be a bit of an echo chamber a lot of the time. I've been reading the posts frequently lately, though, and the dissenters seemed lonely, so I thought I'd join in just to mix things up. Take my posts with a grain of salt, though. I don't comment because I'm convinced I'm right so much as to challenge people to keep thinking. Living my life straddling two worlds has led me to realize that, yes, even I might be absolutely wrong.
