Does Obama Even Need The Jewish Vote?

I think the idea of a Jewish voting bloc is really outdated (maybe not yet in Coral Gables, FL but that generation is dying out). I know older Jews who have become more conservative and now vote Republican. My husband, who is Jewish, is supporting Obama. In reality the younger Jews aren't voting any different then their gentile counterparts. They may generally support Isreal but that isn't the number one issue in their mind.

A side from all this, Obama has made is clear he strongly supports Isreal. Just because he doesn't talk about nuking Iran does not mean he doesn't support Isreal's sovereignty. This kind of talk is ridiculous. posted 05/14/2008 at 15:51:52

Obama Lowers Expectation In West Virginia: Suggests 80-20 Margin

I hardly think the rest of the country looks to WV to have its finger on the pulse of politics. Clinton has pandered to the racism and fear of people there. It's more embarrassing for her really. posted 05/13/2008 at 14:51:52

Is This Primary Irreversibly Shredding the Democratic Party? I'm Skeptical.

I agree. There may be a few hold outs but the general election is a long time away, the majority of Democrats will vote for whichever Dem is on the ballot in the fall. Independents and Republicans are a different story though. They could go either way. HRC has high negatives with Repubs so some of them that are supporting Obama will likely go with McCain or stay home. How much of a difference that would make is up for debate. posted 04/24/2008 at 12:32:02

Surrender, Integrity

That doesn't necessarily mean the majority of the country is center-right. The majority of "righties" get their news from cable is more likely. "Lefties" and centrists are probably getting their news from other sources, i.e. network news, internet, newpapers. Fox News makes it seem like far-right politics are actually centrist, re-enforcing the far-right viewpoint. In reality the majority of the country is likely more centrist than Fox would have you believe posted 04/24/2008 at 12:58:16

Pushing Clinton: CNN's Push Poll on Obama's Remarks

Obama is affluent yet Clinton and McCain, aren't? Really? McCain's wife is a beer heiress. And the Clinton's have made millions since being in the White House (tax returns, anyone?)

Does Obama comes off as arrogant because he actually speaks well? He tells the truth and we are all supposed to be shocked. Are we so used to Bush that anyone who can form a sentence is labeled as affluent, elitist and arrogant? (Do most people realize how wealthy the Bushes are and that GWB went to Yale).

As for raising questions about his "personal diplomacy". Yes he could have said it more tactfully but at least it isn't the out right lies of Sen. Clinton or ignorance of McCain. posted 04/12/2008 at 15:01:37

Sometimes Honor Is Wrong -- The Problem With John McCain

A number of congressmen and women did vote against the resolution.

This Sunnis and Shiites have been fighting each other for centuries. They fight, they grow tired and make peace, than they fight again. The occupation of Iraq by the US military cannot suddenly change hundreds of years history. posted 04/02/2008 at 13:56:14

Clinton: Stick It Out or Withdraw?

Ha, try being an Oregon voter! We vote in May. I would certainly like to be able to vote in the primary to say the people in later voting states would be "disenfranchised" if the primary ends before that is silly. I think what a lot of people are objecting to is the nastiness of the campaign (both sides now). To run on principles is fine but to run on negativity and bullying isn't, unless you're a Republican. posted 03/31/2008 at 02:47:08

25% of Anti-Obama Dems Think He's a Muslim

The report says that 25% of Hillary Dems believe Obama is a Muslim which means 75% don't. The vast majority DON'T believe Obama is a muslim. Its all in the wording. posted 03/27/2008 at 19:42:28

Run, Hillary, Run. Ralph, Too.

You make a number of good points and I agree that the prolonged fight has toughed both candidates, especially Obama. It has also brought many of the negatives up that would have normally been saved for the general election. In some ways this is good as these scandals will simply induce a yawn from voters in November. On the other hand the nastiness of the campaign (on both sides) has succeeded in entrenching many voters even to the point of voting for McCain or not voting at all rather than the Democrat in November. Prolonging this could very likely make it worse. posted 03/27/2008 at 15:48:51

The Reality Index: If Men Got Pregnant

Oh its funny, relax. And there is some truth to the comments.
1. Men may be stronger physically but women have more endurance and higher pain tolerence.
2. The maternity leave in this country is shameful. Would it be that way if men had babies?
3. Do you think all those pharmacists who refuse to fill prescriptions for birth control would do that if they ever got pregnant? posted 03/27/2008 at 15:01:34

Hillary's Diversionary Tactic Is Feeding The GOP Noise Machine

The GOP will continue with the Rev Wright issue of course. But people who will be really upset about it probably wouldn't have voted for Obama anyway. The story has already runs its course and it's still March. By November everyone will just yawn. posted 03/26/2008 at 13:54:47

'Al Qaeda In Iraq': Part Myth, Part Manipulation

Truth on CNN! Pundits Defend Obama, Anderson Cooper Is Perplexed (As Usual)

Anderson Cooper is a great field reporter but political anchor, no. I'm not sure why CNN is pushing the elections onto him when it is obviously not a good fit. Lately I've been watching BBC America World News since they actually do news stories instead of all talking heads all the time. posted 03/24/2008 at 12:11:53

Religious Bigotry Across the Board

The point is Bush and McCain aren't being bashed incessantly for their association with the right wing preachers. Where is McCain's speech on his religion? He's called Rod Parsley his "spiritual guide". Parsley called Islam evil and a false religion. He's railed against gays, liberals, abortionists the list goes on. I don't think McCain should be expected to denounce Parsley any more than Obama should of had to denounce Wright. But apparently Obama is held to a different standard. The hypocrisy of the media and the public is truly astonishing. Yes, Falwell and others have been criticized but the politicians who court these guys can simply say they don't agree with a comments and move on.
The whole point of Obama's speech was to put Wright's comments in the correct context. He denounced the comments but reviewed the history of racism in this country. Wright's experiences as a black man in th 20th century color his view of white people and the US government. And according to a number of black commentators the sentiment is not all that uncommon in the black community. Really if you know the history of this country it is not hard to understand why; which is what Mike Huckabee was referring to.
Maybe because I've lived in a mostly Latino area of California my skin is thicker than yours. But I've looked at a number of Wright's comments and while controversial there isn't any outright white bashing. Please feel free to post a quote if you can find it.
Also, United Church of Christ is a mixed race denomination with a white president who has remained supportive of Wright and Obama. posted 03/21/2008 at 13:56:12
