The Simple Arithmetic of Republican Failure

Dear liberalloons,

Are you for real? Because it seems to me that you are an idiot. Who are the 2.5 million people that were slaughtered BECAUSE the US pulled out of Vietnam? If, as 'watererbob' suggested, you are talking about Pol Pot, then you should know that not only did the US allow for Pol Pot to come to power (through continued bombing of Cambodia and Laos), it was the Vietnamese who stopped Pol Pot!! The very people the US had been fighting. And this noble action was attacked by the Brittish and the Americans. Furthermore, could you tell me why the Iraq war was a necessary one? Is it because God choose to put all that oil under Iraq? It certainly wasn't because Iraq was a threat to the US (NO WMDs) or harbouring terrorists (Al Qaeda only came AFTER the US attacked). So I ask again - why was it NECESSARY? posted 04/22/2008 at 05:55:06

McCain Won't Rule Out Pre-Emptive War

"If someone is about to launch a weapon that would devastate America, or have the capability to do so, obviously, you would have to act immediately in defense of this nation's national security interests."

Is this guy for real? Unfortunately, the answer to that is yes. His words are so ludicrous and arrogant, it would be laughable if it wasn't so scary. What the hell gives him the right to say such things? If you were to follow out his logic, the US should immediately attack all countries that have the "capability" to "launch a weapon that would devastate America". So let me see, that list would be: Russia, the UK, France, North Korea, India, Pakistan etc. Not, I might add, the country I am sure the comment was aimed at, Iran, who don't have such a weapon! Yes, John McCain is a funny little man. The man who doesn't even know the difference between Sunni and Shia Muslims (like our mentally challenged friend in the white house). He is a funny little man alright. I just don't know why I'm not laughing....... posted 04/10/2008 at 01:35:53

The Senators Grill Petraeus; My Brother Messages Me From Iraq

Here's is some advise for Sam. If you are plagued by the question of "What are we doing there?", and you are actually there carrying out the so called mission, there is something seriously wrong. And you shouldn't have to wait for the next president to arrive in order to come to the logical conclusion that "You shouldn't be there". Why don't you think for yourself, quit the army and become a real hero. posted 04/11/2008 at 03:37:29

Shiite Leader Al-Sadr Defies Iraq Gov't

Hi chinaskee,

I'm guessing by your comment that you are a redneck conservative. What you and your beloved evil administration fail to realise is that no amount of power will prevail if the people in the land in which you occupy don't want you there. And history backs up my point over and over again - 1922 and the Irish overcame the world's greatest superpower to gain a form of independence - and that was with a population of around 3.5 million, the Brits also failed against the Iraqi's back in the 1920s, the American's against the Vietnamese in the 1970's, the Soviets against the Afghans in the 1980s..... the list goes on and on. Why don't you throw your faith out and go back to school redneck! posted 03/30/2008 at 07:40:40

Obama Should Think Big -- and Seat Michigan and Florida

Great article and I think a good solution. However, the Michigan vote was completely biased towards Hillary as Obama wasn't even on the ballot. If he grants her those votes too, it would either be a move of sheer brilliance or insanely stupid. The end result will tell. posted 04/01/2008 at 05:16:26

Tibet, Beijing and Olympic Sponsors: To Boycott or Not

Did you even read the article you ignoranous? The Bush administration itself hasn't been that far off a dictatorship for the last 7 years. Grow up. posted 03/29/2008 at 09:55:40

4000 Reasons to Take Responsibility

Can't you see that that is the problem. America has to learn it has no inherent right to other countries' resources. posted 03/28/2008 at 08:56:20

While the Iraq Spin Continues, the Real Enemy Remains on the Lam

Thanks again irishgawdess,

I agree with you heartily that the military's actions in recruiting these young guys is disgraceful. And for it to happen in University campuses is shameful. Where are the studion unions in all of this? They should start standing up to this crap. But if after listening to some a$%hole tell them how fun it is to be in the military, they then go home and switch on the TV and get told by Dave Letterman and Wolfe Biltzer that the men in Iraq are heroes, it confounds the problem. Can't you see that that is the problem? I hope so.

I think becoming a CO is a viable option only if you are being forced to enter the war (as was the case in WWII with conscription). If you don't agree with the war - you shouldn't have anything to do with it in my opinion. posted 03/28/2008 at 03:30:52
Thanks for your comment JimR,

Re-naming them to Americans that "deserve our full support" misses the point completely. I want to change the mentality that says serving your country is always a heroic thing to do. It is not - if the leader of that country is a madman. I wish that it wasn't self destructing for the media to voice the opinion, the logical opinion in my view, that if you sign up for and fight in a war that is shameful and being waged for all the wrong reasons - YOU ARE NOT A HERO.

What I meant by "Soldiers shouldn't be drones that are not allowed to think. They should start taking responsibility for their actions. " is that they should think about the bigger picture. Do they want to serve in a war that they don't agree with etc. Of course they cannot take decisions on orders given while actually there - unless of course those orders go against international law. Then I think they should say no. And they should be informed of international laws if they are to go half way around the world killing others.

As for your last point. The anti-war movement is substantial and has tried its best to stop this war - even before it started. I am trying to change the specific mindset that says soldiers are automatically treated as heroes. That's all. posted 03/28/2008 at 03:22:20
Thanks for your post irishgawdess,

First of all, of course the "foot soldiers" are a "part of the problem". If the soldiers refused to go to Iraq, it would be impossible to wage war there. Notice I said "part of the problem", because clearly the Bush administration and America's policy of intervention in other countries business is the biggest part of the problem.

What do you mean by "becoming a conscientious objector"? As a soldier, you are forbidden to say anything negative about your commander in chief. So what would you have the soldiers do? Members of the National Guard and the Reserves DONT have to go to Iraq. They will not be sent to jail if they point blankly refuse. All I am asking is that these men and woman think for themselves. Research the reasons why they are being sent thousands of miles to kill foreign people. And then when they reach the only logical answer, namely for money (in the form of Oil), they should refuse to go.

I agree that many were duped by military recruiters, but they have a responsibility to check out the facts themselves. We need to get the message out that you are not automatically a HERO just because you signed up to become a soldier. If we can change this, then maybe there would be a little less unnecessary killing in the world. posted 03/27/2008 at 10:17:48
Good article. I sympathize with you you and your family over the death of your brother David who lost his life on that tragic day. However, you have continued the ongoing propaganda that is rife in the media in America that says "The American soldiers who have served in Iraq are heroes." I beg to differ and know that I will be lambasted for it. But logically speaking are they? I would argue that they are part of the problem. They are doing an evil administrations bidding by signing up freely and going to fight in a war that everyone now knows was unjustified. The same goes for contractors who have tried to make a buck out of this unjustified war. These soldiers and contractors are putting personal finances over what is right. And fighting, killing and being killed in an unjust war is not right. So let us change the script a little. Soldiers shouldn't be drones that are not allowed to think. They should start taking responsibility for their actions. Don't sign up for a war that is unjust. Don't continue in a war that is unjust. I say the heroes are the ones that leave by themselves. Don't wait for politicians who have already failed you in the past to put your life right. Take the step yourself. The Bush administration cannot function without its pawns. And you my friends are its pawns and part of the problem. Start being part of the solution. posted 03/27/2008 at 07:11:47
