Bio
Owner of j.nelsonleith.com, I am a divorced father of two and a veteran of Naval Information Operations before and after September 11th, doing foreign military intelligence and counter-terrorism.
During my decade+ of intelligence experience, I worked with all four military branches, the National Security Agency, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, and occasionally assisted CIA counter-terrorism and FBI law enforcement operations.
My formal training was in comparative religion at the University of Virginia, where I also studied the Arabic language. I later attended the State Department's George P. Schultz National Foreign Affairs Training Center for an intensive Urdu and South Asian Area Studies course.
I began my higher education at West Virginia State University, a Historically Black College, where I was co-editor of the literary magazine and editor-in-chief of the student newspaper. During my tenure as editor-in-chief, I made the Associated Press for standing up against the administration's unconstitutional attempts to censor the student press.
I have also been a musician and songwriter, and won the American Idol Online "Big Push Comedy" contest for a song parodying the music industry, Copycat: Another So-Called Punk Band.
I currently live in our nation's capital, in the historic Adams Morgan neighborhood.
