You;'re right about the deluded American mentality. Every other advanced nation has a national health plan, varying somewhat in scope and efficiency, but providing its citizens a basic guarantee that they will have access to care without bankrupting themselves. (Health costs now cause more than 50% of personal bankruptcies in this country, a fact that is just inconceivable to other nations). And extending today's private insurance is NOT the answer - many of the most tragic cases are in families that were "covered."

The antipathy to "socialized medicine" it is one of the more amazing brainwashings that have taken place here. I am still puzzled by it.

So Obama's local church had a pastor who did a lot of good in many ways, had some controversial opinions/attitudes. SO WHAT? We're voting for Obama, not Wright. Only in America would people think it MATTERED what a candidate's local clergyman said or believed. In any case, Wright has been slandered wholesale. I took the 40 minutes to LISTEN to a sermon - the "chickens home to roost" one, after 9/11 - and (a) it wasn't his phrase (though it is true anyway) - he was quoting the US ambassador to Iraq, who obviously understood what causes Arab fanaticism/rage. (b) he never "gloated" over 9/1,1as the Rethugs have said - he called it an "unbelievable tragedy." Stop accepting the smears based on a few phrases, check for yourself. "The View" Heats Up Over Racism, Whoopi Declares, "This Is A Racist Country"

Here's something you can watch for. In ANY American TV show that has a mix of black and white people, carefully watch the attitudes of the people. The white characters are being so obviously deliberately non-conscious of color, and the black people are so clearly "helping them out." You may not get it at first. But then watch a British show with a mixed cast. There is just a natural confidence in the black characters. They don't have to worry about "being equal." They just act the parts, and skin color is a non-issue. Not that Britain hasn't had some prejudice, even race riots, in the past, but they never had slavery, and it shows. posted 03/25/2008 at 21:35:17

Hey EVERYONE -follow up this link and some of the others it leads to ("Operation Falcon" is especially interesting). Then if you want to continue living in a country that bears ANY resemblance to a democracy (though less than it was) - be afraid. Be very afraid.
