The Fear Factor

I thought Obama was running in the Democratic Party and Hillary was running in the Clinton Party. What I don't understand is why they are running against each other in a primary seeing as they are from different parties. posted 03/29/2008 at 00:43:44
Since you say that Obama and Hillary are virtually identical politically, you must have some less rational reason for being so passionately opposed to Obama. It is probably your jaundiced eye. posted 03/29/2008 at 00:23:45

Clinton: Wright "Would Not Have Been My Pastor"

The Clintons expected Richardson to be loyal to them as payment for worldly promotion but they encourage Americans to ditch their pastors, even if their pastor has brought spiritual grace into their lives, if the pastor has the audacity to echo the "wrath of God" revealed by the Prophets in the Bible. The Clintons agree with Judas that worldly power matters more than spiritual Life. Judas betrayed Jesus when he realized Jesus' spiritual path would not lead to worldly power. Hillary has demonstrated that she shares no empathy with Americans who hold religious values above worldly ambitions. Americans with religious values who support her should consider this. posted 03/26/2008 at 01:09:50
I wish Rev. Wright had been President Bush's pastor. If Bush had listened to the "chickens coming home to roost" sermon and followed its message we wouldn"t be tangled up in a war in Iraq now. That's assuming he heard the whole sermon, not just the media distortion sound bites we"ve been subjected to by the enemies of hope. The whole sermon is now available on the net, look it up. posted 03/25/2008 at 21:59:33

The Fools of Spring Available for Comment: a Snapshot of Impressions of Madness at Dawn

Nice piece. You captured a lot of my day"s experience. Watched the same shows, had many of the same thoughts. Of course another part of the addiction is going back and forth from the TV to the computer and reading the news blogs like this one and going through the day ruminating and concocting comments to submit to the blogs and eagerly sending them off. Reading this piece made me a little weary of this obsession, I think I will get off the computer and go read a good book. posted 03/25/2008 at 02:29:03

Carville Stands By "Judas" Remark, Says He Wanted To Brand Richardson

Doesn't Carville have it kind of backwards? Richardson decided not to be bound to the Clinton's 30 pieces of silver and instead chose to follow his conscience. posted 03/24/2008 at 20:45:23

Another Way to Think about Tibet?

maddogbitesback is a Chinese communist I assume. Tibet has not always been a semi-autonomous region of China. There have been times in the past when China was a semi-autonomous region of Tibet. The history is there, even when communists try to erase it. Tibet is a sovereign nation illegally occupied and cruelly oppressed by imperialistic totalitarian communist China. posted 03/23/2008 at 22:10:07

China Blasts Dalai Lama, Pelosi on Tibet

This is not a case of China remaining whole, it is a case of China relinquishing what it stole when it was crazy under Mao. Tibet never voluntarily joined the Peoples Republic of China, while the southern states had joined the union. Your analogy is flawed so your allegation of hypocrisy is malicious rhetoric. I assume you are opposed to democracy and self-determination. posted 03/24/2008 at 20:01:01
Your little joke ironically shadows the tragic reality of Tibet. The Chinese communists have already turned Tibet into a tourist attraction for their own selfish gain and made the Tibetan people slaves in their own homeland. The Chinese destroyed most of the Buddhist monasteries there during the bloody occupation, but then later realized they would make good amusement parks so they had the Tibetans rebuild them this time as tourist attractions. All the proceeds of course go to the Chinese overlords. Many of those nice religious souvenirs and prayer wheels you see in the gift shop are stolen from Tibetans and sold by Chinese. We would never see those things for sale if China had not taken over Tibet.

I don't think Catholics would appreciate your characterization of the Pope, and you are wrong about the Dalai Lama as well. posted 03/24/2008 at 01:13:59
China is going to be the world's biggest problem pretty soon. We should never take our eyes off of it. It is extremely dangerous that America is so in debt to them now. posted 03/24/2008 at 00:52:17

Hypocrisy in the Public Sphere on Obama's Speech

Excuse me but I think that only through meaningful discussion and authentic attempts at real understanding of these difficult issues will progress be made. I think we will find meaningful solutions, probably sooner with Obama as president because of the kind of optimism he engenders and his setting the tone of calm rationality and open mindedness. I am sorry that Clinton and McCain supporters have such a dark view of our future. Sadly, such a narrow view could become a self-fulfilling prophesy. posted 03/23/2008 at 03:18:25
The mainstream media is the biggest fairy tale I've ever seen.

Andrew Sullivan has a useful quote at the top of his blog page, by Orwell, "to see what is in front of one"s nose needs constant struggle." I think this applies to CNN and the rest these days. It looks to me like the passions and resentments and struggles of racial inequality and gender issues, of social justice, are burning right in front of all our eyes, catalyzed by the potentiality of the first African-American or woman president, and what do we keep hearing from the news commentators on TV, "When will we be able to get past this distraction and back to the real issues? Will Obama be able to get beyond the race issue? Etc." What a bunch of denial. Race and gender ARE real issues. Not that they should take precedence over the war and economy, but they are very important and absolutely should not be swept aside by the powers behind the media. The distortions and hidden agendas of the mainstream media are really incredible these days.

It is time to call out the hypocrisy of the whited sepulchres.

Who is really offended by Rev. Jeremiah Wright"s fiery sermons? I certainly hope there are no people who call themselves Christians who are offended by this preaching.

Rev. Wright"s preaching is right out of the Bible. If you denounce it you are denouncing the Bible and the God of the Bible. Any true Christian understands where this kind of preaching is coming from " its tone, its import, and its place in the Judeo-Christian lineage. If you don"t know it, you are unfamiliar with the Bible.

It seems like people expect our preachers to be nice and patriotic, to only say "God Bless America", even to have the attitude "my country right or wrong," but absolutely this expectation has no basis in the Bible. It doesn"t take extensive perusing of the Bible to find many examples of the kind of language Rev. Wright has used.

To start with a most obvious example regarding this issue, Jesus was executed by the government as an enemy of the state. Neither Rome nor the government of the Israelites considered Jesus a great patriot; just the opposite. There were patriots in Jesus" time, they were called zealots. Jesus rejected zealotry. Barabbas was likely a Jewish patriot that we learn about in the Gospel and we are told that the crowd chose him over Jesus to be spared execution. (Luke 23:18) I assume that those today who are crying out for patriotism in our preachers would also have called out then "we choose Barabbas! Barabbas!"

John the Baptist rebuked King Herod for sleeping with his brother"s wife and was beheaded by the king for that. (Luke 3:19) I guess John was not a good patriot, he criticized the government. I assume that those who are calling Rev. Wright anti-American would have called John anti-Israelite.

Rev. Wright is named after the prophet Jeremiah. In the Bible we find the prophet Jeremiah saying: "Who will have pity on you, O Jerusalem, or who will bemoan you? Who will turn aside to ask about your welfare? You have rejected me, says the Lord, you are going backward; so I have stretched out my hand against you and destroyed you."(Jer 15:5) That doesn"t sound like "God bless Jerusalem" it sounds like "God damn Jerusalem." I guess Jeremiah was not a patriot but an anti-Judean filled with hate.

The Bible is not a textbook of patriotism. The harsh judgments are made in the hope that things will be brought to right so that life can be better. The stern message that we could be better people, must be a better nation, is much more valuable than a vain self-indulgent pep talk that "we"re OK," "we"re number one!"

Now that more of Rev. Wright"s sermon has been posted on YouTube we can see the larger context of the hardest words of it and we can see that this uproar has been created by media deception through video editing. We see that Rev. Wright does emphasize the positive restorative aspects of Christianity in his sermons. So what must we say of those who have been so quick to condemn this preacher on the basis of short clips of video deception? I think those who have spoken so loudly and quickly in condemnation are persecutors of Christianity, hypocrites if they claim to be Christian themselves; as Jesus called the Pharisees, "whited sepulchers:" self righteous on the outside and full of corruption on the inside.
