Is Who Becomes the Next President All That Matters?

gerontion-

I believe you are correct. The president of this country is a figurehead. However, not even a few of the previous 42 had such a fawning, rubber-stamping congress to further an agenda that makes it a sin to not wear a lapel pin or wrap yourself in an American flag made in Communist China.

The Magna Carta and The Constitution of the United States are scraps of paper to this crowd.

Best way to fix the mess this nation is to elect a congress that believes the 300 million citizens are more important than any president. - The oath they all take is ".. protect and defend the Constitution".

How many of them actually live up to that promise? posted 05/17/2008 at 00:41:12

Olbermann Blasts O'Reilly For Attacking GE: "You Are More Personally Responsible For The 4,000 Dead Americans In Iraq Than All of America's Corporations Put Together."

BOfever

Good point. Wonder if Olbermann would vilify that poor sap the way O'Reilly frequently does to guests that disagree with him? posted 04/16/2008 at 14:14:21
I watch O'Reilly and Olbermann. They and their employers, FOX News and MSNBC, have opposing views on most issues. However, 5 years ago nearly all news media was in lock-step with the Administration and Congress to invade Iraq. One dissenting voice was Phil Donehue on MSNBC and was promptly fired for speaking the facts as we now know them. I haven't heard Olbermann or anyone else asking for his return. -It is a near certainty that FOX would never, ever consider hiring an objective host like Donehue posted 04/16/2008 at 12:59:59

Shock Jocks Woody And Wilcox Suspended For Slur Against Native Alaskan Women

byrok67-

Wasn't saying the constitution should be trashed, only that the FCC regulations forbid me or anyone else from using improper language on a CB Radio. If these two jocks were broadcasting on cable or Satellite radio, where people who want to listen will have to pay to do so, that is fine with me. But, if ordinary citizens can lose their CB or Ham Radio operators licenses, then I feel that commercial users of the public airwaves should be and indeed are REQUIRED to comply as well. posted 04/16/2008 at 14:03:04
After the Russians took what they wanted (furs, mostly seal, beaver and sea otter) and 'sold' Alaska to the US, there was an influx of Checkacos or newcomers from all around the world to get rich in the gold fields. These first foreigners informed those that followed that they would not be 'True Alaskans' until ..."you have killed a bear, made love to a Squaw and P...ed in the Yukon"

The individual that first said that and anyone that says it, or any variation of it, fail to realize that no matter what 'heroic' act you might perform, you are not a true Alaskan if you are other than an Eskimo or Indian.

These two Jocks are idiots and Clear Channel Corp. as well as numerous other radio-TV stations , should have their transmitters shut down by the spineless FCC. posted 04/16/2008 at 11:23:51

Alberto Gonzales Finding It Tough To Land A New Job

He might find a position with the former "Singing Senators" since Sen. Jeffords divorced himself from the GOP and became an Independent.

No doubt Alberto would fit right in with his predecessor, John Ashcroft, former Mississippi Sen. Trent Lott and Sen. Larry 'Wide-Stance' Craig of Idaho. What wonderful music they would make.

An alternative position for the poor guy, that dropped out if the Air Force Academy, might be to get a job at the University of California-Berkley teaching that legal ' genius', John Yoo, how to read the constitution. posted 04/14/2008 at 15:34:27

Perino Gets Testy With Dem Leaders

If my memory isn't failing, I think this the same White House Press spokesperson that thinks that the Cuban Missile Crises had something to do with missiles and Cuba. ......"But that was before my time" or something like that. posted 04/14/2008 at 15:48:35

McCain Told Me 100 Years

I think Germany was chosen by the US not to keep peace in Germany anymore than a large naval presence, at Subic Bay , in the Philippines, kept peace there.

It appears with the breaking up of the Soviet Union that perhaps a country such as Poland may be the new staging ground for US forces, but not to keep peace in Poland.

I have no problem funding peace keeping forces in nations that feel threatened, but don't like the idea that our troops should ever be used as aggressors against countries that are not a threat to world peace and don't want us there in the first place. posted 04/08/2008 at 15:43:22

Ten Questions for General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker

Going into Viet Nam turned out to be a huge mistake that started out as assistance against communist invasion from the north, with Chinese support. It did not end well.

Bombing the hell out of Baghdad for the reasons given was pure NUTS. Maybe the citizens of South Viet Nam have forgiven the mistakes made but wonder if the US will ever be considered anything less than an aggressor in the Middle East.

Right now it looks like a huge mistake. Will we ever learn? posted 04/08/2008 at 16:39:07
LBJ acknowledged that the French had 250,000 casualties in Indo-China and began American involvement in that country (Viet Nam), where 58,000 GIs died.

These numbers do not mean we won or that is was the French that lost the Viet Nam war. -Everyone lost. Including, and maybe in particular, the citizens of that counrty. posted 04/08/2008 at 14:48:42

Why Our Feith-Based Iraqi Policy Failed

I think it was General Tommy Franks that said that Doug Feith is "The stupidest M....Fr in the world" or something along those lines.

Gen. Franks received the Medal of Freedom on the same occasion as Paul Bremmer and George Tenant.

I think Franks deserves another one for accurately describing Feith. posted 04/07/2008 at 16:21:51

A Test for Democrats on Foreign Policy

Latin-American countries are accustomed to being used as corporate 'ping-pong' balls.

Noreiga in Panama was, at one time, a real nice boy.
Pres. Allende, Chile, was murdered even though he was fairly elected. He just didn't fit in with the big business bunch that told Nixon and Kissinger what to do.
Nicaragua? Ask Oliver North or GHW Bush about that one. Seems like the Ayatollah of Iran was involved there as well.

Ferdinad Marcos, Philippines, treated as OK for years until it became inconvenient for some.
Venezuelan President, Chavez, has at least one thing going for him. He refused to take loans from Paul Wolfowitz' World Bank and still sells us CITGO gas. Chavez is not a puppet of Big Business and therefore is a loser, according to our so-called leaders. posted 04/07/2008 at 17:45:46

McCain: Democrats' Stance on Iraq Flawed

If John McCain actually believes his own words:

"I don't believe that anyone should make promises as a candidate for president that they cannot keep if elected"

Then how can he really think the current administration is anything he would like to be a carbon copy of?

The Bush/Cheney crowd are documented counterfeits but he seems to believe they are 'Saviors of the world'. posted 04/07/2008 at 15:59:11

An Iraqi Translator Gets Prosecuted While Blackwater Gets Another Year in Iraq

Jeremy-
Here is a real hairbrained idea.

Instead of warehousing all the criminals in prison at an enormous cost and funding outfits, like Blackwater, to go out and blow stuff up and kill people. Why not empty the jails and prisons and let these losers join something akin to the French Foreign Legion.

Those gang-banging thugs would have a lot of 'fun' and the Blackwater troops might go back into their former Special Forces units from whence the came.

Ya, I know it's a nutty idea but what isn't crazy when it comes to foolish war? posted 04/07/2008 at 16:50:26

Who Can Beat McCain?

With each passing day it becomes more apparent, to me, that the only person that can beat McCain is:

John McCain. - I think he should keep quiet for the next 7 months and then might get a little bit of creditability. posted 04/08/2008 at 14:22:16

Joe Biden: The Surge Is A Failure

Sen. Biden, I certainly hope that Amb. Crocker and Gen. Patreaus will either confirm or deny the words of the ambassadors of Jordan and Syria. They both made it clear, on C-Span yesterday (Fri. Apr. 4) that their countries are being inundated by refugees from Iraq.

It seemed to me that only those that have the wherewithal to go to Lebanon, Egypt, Syria, Jordan,...... are doing so. Only the poor citizens and GI's are forced to stay. Rip-off contractors think this Surge is great, as do the foreign banks that fund it. posted 04/05/2008 at 15:20:23

Feingold Calls Out Intel Chief For Saying Dems Want To Imprison Bush

Anyone out there see former National Security Advisor, Gen. M. Hayden (USAF), now the head of the CIA, contradict himself? Hayden is not a liar, he is just another example of using the uniform to undermine the Constitution. He follows his leader.

I predict that the "Jet pilot" of Alabama National Guard fame, will give Hayden the curse of the 'Medal of Freedom' . posted 04/01/2008 at 14:15:45

Oil Chiefs Say High Prices Not Our Fault

Hopefully the oil company CEOs will be under oath this time. Remember Sen. Ted Stevens (R) Ak., while chairing a similar 'investigation', said that these are honorable men and don't need to sworn to tell the truth?

Truth is that the refining of crude oil is the same if the cost of crude is a penny a barrel or $200 a barrel. These 'Honorable' individuals want you to believe that is reasonable that when the price of crude doubles the price of a gallon of gas or heating oil should increase %400-%500.

The President has said way too many times now that "WE haven't built any new refineries .........."
He knows full well that 'WE' don't build or close refineries. Only the oil companies do that. posted 04/01/2008 at 13:07:46

Carville, Coulter and the Others

James Carville and Donna Brazile were both supporters of the Clinton Presidency. Neither became government employees, as staff members. They were just two people from Louisiana that supported the principals of the Democratic Party (and no doubt were well paid for their support).

Ms. Brazile now thinks Obama is the right candidate and Carville disagrees. I think that is fine. She might be correct, but give Carville a little bit of credit for getting his wife out of Dick Cheneys 'White House' and into Creole and Cajun country.

Ann Coulter? The daughter of Phelps-Dodge mine executive in Arizona, that had no use for working stiffs.

Give Carville credit for marrying the right person. posted 03/31/2008 at 17:15:48

How Would Watergate Be Reported Today?

Newspapers, Radio and Tv stations (MSM) cannot exist without advertising and subscribers. When corporations own movie studios, breakfast cereal and soda pop manufacturing plants as well as countless other diverse products. Who gets the advertising money? That is correct. The same corporation that owns your TV station, one or two of your radio stations and a large circulation Newspaper. Not to mention the International satellite TV monopoly.

The Federal Communications Communication (FCC) at one time regulated such monopolistic propaganda machines and today seems to be on the corporate payroll too. posted 03/29/2008 at 13:56:34

The Global Impact of the Subprime Crisis

Turkey- Anyone that lost their life savings as a result of the S&L theft, does not have to be reminded that Neil Bush, the Presidents brother, benefitted from the failure of Silverado S&L in Denver. And, when other brother, Jeb, became Gov. Florida, was rewarded even more.

Now we see where Sen. McCain has the former Texas S&L thief, Phil Gramm, as his economic advisor. Keep in mind that Sen. Gramms wife was a board member of that wonderful Enron Corp.

Says a lot for the future of this country if the thieves keep getting the tax breaks and the honest guy gets the bill to support them. posted 03/29/2008 at 14:36:01

Big Mac's Blazing Saddle Diplomacy

HonestGeorge- You are correct. The Soviet Union troops pulled out in part because the Reagan/Bush administration supplied Osama Bin Laden ( Mujhadeen) with Stinger missiles to blow Soviet helocopters out of the sky.

The Soviet Union went bankrupt playing games with this crowd that "can run but cannot hide".

Let's borrow some more Billions from China so this nation can do like the Soviet Union did.

The Idea of world denomination by colonizing every continent on earth went away long ago. The French learned that in Indo-China and the British in Arabia.

Everyone that remembers Viet Nam (part of French Indo-China) and now, the same thing in Iraq, must realize that the United States should not pretend to be the saviors of the world at the point of a gun (or worse) because we can. .......With borrowed money from Communist China. posted 03/27/2008 at 14:54:58

My Conversation with Gen. Wesley Clark on Dick Cheney

I am still waiting for the former Secretary of Defense, Richard Cheney, to admit his ignorance.

He said that on one occasion, on the approach to National Airport in D.C., he felt remorse for all those heros of previous wars evidenced by the hundreds of CROSSES that mark their place.

He later became CEO of Halliburton and today is the Vice President and, apparently, still fails to acknowledge that there are only HEADSTONES there.

Admittedly, this is a minor issue, but just one of many that demonstrates his personal involvement of war is only hell for someone else, but is OK to become a millionaire in the process. posted 03/25/2008 at 14:15:02
