Obama's Response To FISA Critics: A Vital Exchange With An Empty Center

Absolutely!!!!!!! posted 07/07/2008 at 23:43:56
"True conservatives, who abhor intrusive government and who believe that liberty should not be sold to finance false security, despise Bush's warrantless wiretapping ". The dems have a chance to take the high ground for all citizens of this country. This is a non party issue and the right person can ask all Americans to support him knowing that the republicans have already played their cards . McCain can't walk away from this any more then he can walk away from Iraq. To attract voters from all political persuasions you need to be right on these kinds of issues. There is a lot of dissatisfaction in the American public no matter what your past political views have been and Obama needs to identify these primary issues and be different then the republicans to get all of those dissatisfied voters. If the republicans want this law passed then Obama has to persuade dems currently in congress to table it till next year. The majority of Americans do not want the current administration and congressional vote percentages to put a law on the books that most of us don't like. posted 07/07/2008 at 22:53:16
I agree across the board. Very well done. The question you posed about the possibility of granting them immunity has only one answer that I can see, he is running for office in a land of media might and he is scared of them. This will not fix any of our problems. We need to take your idea of digging into them to see the level of rot. I am a big fan of analogies and Jefferson was great at painting a picture with words. Good choices. You are right about the lumps and also about how much enthusiasm there is for him to get it right. We want to cheer for him and we also want to cheer for that rock. posted 07/07/2008 at 18:24:19

McCain's 'Deficit Reduction' Plan Would Cost Trillions

The second part of cutting our spending is pretty obvious. The lions share goes to Iraq and the private companies that this administration has hired. We are also spending way to much on countries like Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Israel, Egypt and some other countries in the middle east. A lot of these countries have oil so why are we sending them money? Countries like Pakistan are taking our money and not doing what they are supposed to do for it. Another thing would be to look at our entire foreign policy regarding expenditures in South and Latin America. At home, we need a complete overhaul of our military expenditures. As far as that goes we need to look at every thing that the government spends money on and pork has to be history for a while. posted 07/07/2008 at 16:36:34
There are two priorities first is to cut spending and then to increase revenues. Pretty simple, huh? To increase revenues we will need to increase the production of original dollars so laws have to change regarding off shore production and increase taxes on those who earn money off shore. Bringing these jobs home and taxing the people that are causing the problem is a good place to start. We need jobs and manufacturing. We also need to change what we manufacture such as development of new energy technology. Lots of potential jobs here and we need to have areas where we lead the world again. Our biggest problem is that huge amounts of our income goes to other countries and a few of our citizens have their hands in the foreign feed troughs. Another more radical area would be to legalize the drugs that the people of the world seem determined to use. This will cut the rug out from under a lot of foreign entities that we are having problems with such as the taliban and alqaeda and the latin american drug cartels. Way to much of our money goes to support these criminals. Until we stop their income we will always have them as adversaries. posted 07/07/2008 at 16:25:29

Majority Of Americans Say Founding Fathers Would Be Disappointed: Poll

Also, what are you people thinking who believe we are liberating a country from a tyrant in Iraq? We put him in power and we knew what we were doing when we did it. This country had been at each others throats for thousands of years over religious and ethnic differences. They just happen to be sitting on a lot of oil that our capitalists wanted and still do. Ask your self why would we put a tyrant in power and then arm him and give him chemical weapons. posted 07/06/2008 at 02:27:58
It comes down to courage and self respect. Can you imagine what it took to look around themselves at the widely spread out population and take on the challenge of getting these people persuaded and united to fight for our independence and to start a new country? Look what they were facing. An old government that had it's way in the world and the military to enforce it along with other countries drooling over the chance to come in and pick up the pieces. Even then we were a mixed population from many countries and still we got together and did this. Sure we have a lot of scientific and medical advances that would amaze them but I think that they would be wondering where the spirit and courage went. There was a pretty big flash of it when our people forced the government to stop the war in Vietnam but the would be tyrants just took a little break and went right back after it again and just like after WWII we went to sleep again. It must take a lot to break us out of these sleeps we seem to fall into. A world war or 50.000 dead Americans along with how many wounded and traumatized for life. posted 07/06/2008 at 02:26:58

There are exceptions to everything. Some girl that gets raped by a family member and has nothing for counseling around her but pressure to have the baby may take a long time to get enough independence to do something. Having this child is a travesty to a potentially deformed baby and also she may consider suicide as the only way out. All cases like this should be judged on a case by case bases. The humanity of the situation requires it. This is why we have doctors and psychologists. Individual human rights has been so impacted by radical religion that things like this make sense to people these days. Very sad. posted 07/04/2008 at 15:22:29

My Position On FISA

I have always said that I will vote for every dem on my ballot. Thought I would remind you. Having said that, I think that there is a perfect solution for this issue. Table it until next year. This will put all of the legislation and the veto power in dem hands so he can still influence the final bill with out passing a half way good bill now and before the election is decided. If it is tabled and the republicans steal another presidential election, the next republican will be facing a much stronger dem congress. If it is tabled now, the republicans will not get any millage out of this because we simple have to ask the majority of citizens who they want constructing the bill. The small gap between when the current bill expires and January is not enough time for any one to do anything against us. Sure they can make some plans but it takes time to get it going. Taking this off the calender will pacify all of his supporters in the short run and show people from other political persuasions that the dems want to put a good law on the books because privacy is a universal issue. There is no good argument for doing it now. posted 07/03/2008 at 22:59:31

So! They own all of the media so it is expected that this will happen. The media owners and the republicans realize that big changes will happen for them if the dems have a landslide and are going to use their propaganda machine to try to stop it. Obama needs to come up with a message machine that does not rely on the media. He needs to get the wave people to spread the message and do mailers. Seven Things Barack Obama Should Do to Keep from Blowing It

There are a lot of people in this country that thought Obama was a Bobby or John Kennedy type visionary. A visionary attracts support from all people just by being himself, talking about where we as a country can go if we work together and telling them that he wants to lead. This kind of person does not worry about what the others candidates or their supporters will do or say. He knows that this country is ready for a big change and there are people from all walks of life that want the same things. Getting involved in talks with special interests is wrong because it allows people to focus on them selves and their tunnel vision expectations. It is time for people to look themselves in the mirror and admit that they want change and that they will work on special things after the election and not before. Obama needs to regain the publics sense that he is this visionary and voters will come from every where. He has lost this status with the public and is now just another dem trying to become a centrist. This does not unify the voters it opens the door to the republicans who have the media on their side and a candidate that they are preaching is the true centrist. an up hill battle for Obama from where he is now. posted 07/03/2008 at 03:14:37
My goodness, two in a row where we are on the same page. Get back on track Obama. Get the wave going again and your followers will get those swing voters for you. You can't possibly talk enough or too enough people to get the job done but your wave followers can. We are in everyones lives and we can look them in the eye which you can't. I understand that there are powers out there that feel threatened and that you have been attempting to do some things that punch holes in their message against you but You are wrong about this. By doing this you are playing their game and letting them set the debate. Their problem should be trying to out do you and your message not the other way around. The public climate is right and the vast majority want to be part of the wave so suck it up and get going again. posted 07/02/2008 at 20:36:58

The Changing Times and the Equinox Voter

This is pretty simple actually. The ones that are getting ahead are also getting their info from modern sources and are looking at the world not some small community. They may be in areas that have controlled media that is owned by the powers that be and that tell the people what they want told but they go out side this info source and get more. If Obama wants to get the fall backers, then he has to come up with a way to get the info to these people. He can do this by using the go a headers in these areas and also do some old fashion mailers. Both of these will circumvent the owned media. posted 07/02/2008 at 20:51:22

McCain Gets "Visibly Angry" When Asked About Military Experience

I learned to love the US because I missed it so much when I was a prisoner. So, prior to this you didn't love it? I can see him sitting in his cell saying not that I love the US because I miss it but something along the lines of "mommy, I want to come home" or "I want my mommy". Spoiled rich kid who thought he could further his dreams by continuing the family tradition of military service and managed to wrangle a flyer's job instead of a ground pounder. But in his plane crashing way he ended up on the ground and a prisoner. I wonder if he freaked out because hey, this isn't they way it was supposed to go. I am an important man and this isn't supposed to happen. Why he doesn't want to talk about it is because it proves he was unstable when he starts freaking out again each time it comes up. I have friends from that period that get kind of crazy every time they see an Asian. If this is the case for him, he must be in hell because he has to use it as a political tool but it trashes him to think about it. posted 07/02/2008 at 13:25:49

Wachovia Ends Pay-What-You-Want Mortgages

Your running on wrong info. The majority of these types of loans are not held by banks. Also this is one of the few loans of any type that is booked in a very conservative equity position. There will be more foreclosures in the A paper ranks from divorce and death in the family then from default of this type of loan. posted 07/03/2008 at 23:13:30
This type of loan product is sold about 95% of the time to A borrowers who have equity left over and the means to refi any time they want. This loan is not the cause of the mortgage problems. It is the sub prime two year fixed first mortgage partnered up with a second mortgage that allows people with poorer credit and less income to buy a home with no down payment. Fan Mae and Freddy Mac pretty much dictate how A paper is put on the books and the republicans have been going after them for a decade now. The only place wealthy republicans can play is in the sub prime markets and they need a lot of failures to be able to pick up cheap properties to make a big profit. Just about all of the cases of fraudulent applications happens in sub prime because A borrowers do not have to document income with high credit scores. On many A product applications the income is left blank. In spite of what the republicans say Fan Mae and Freddy Mac are highly regulated because of where the money comes from that is used to fund the loans. posted 07/02/2008 at 22:01:39

Obama Vows To Expand Bush's Faith-Based Programs

It seems that there are a couple of attitudes forming here. The first is that some believe that there is a whole lot of misery out there and working through this channel is a good idea as along as it conforms to certain rules. I have no problem with this because I do participate in feeding the homeless and cooking for them in an organization that has a religious format. I am not a very big fan of religion but I am in favor of helping people through organizations that seem to work. The second is that we can't trust these organizations because too many have proven that they harbor people at the top who only want to get rich with out having to work for it and that they are the lowest form of human because they profit from misery. This is one of the reasons that I am not a big fan. In my occupation I have interviewed many people over the years and have to admit that the ones from religious organizations do not deal with a strait face and seem to want special treatment just because they are what they are. I find this disgusting. Too many people like Billy Graham and his family seem to believe that they are entitled to wealth and their children act like they are of the jet set crowd. Considering the source of their income and what they do with it tells me who they are. posted 07/01/2008 at 13:59:12

Capitalistic free market system sure works well. We are headed for a period where the government has to decide how many people are going to starve. How many are going to take all of those guns the republicans made sure the public has to go shopping with. Greed is such a wonderful thing. And we are so inventive with our language. Capitalism, free market system, don't they sound noble? When I was a kid, any company that had a few top people who made off with all of the cash and trashed a whole area economy was investigated. Even not so long ago the public was still able to howl about the enrons. These days any number of major companies can fold and a few run away with the cash and we just call it a recession. By his recent actions Obama isn't taking advantage of the overwhelming public attitude. Prior to the end of the primaries there was a solid public expectation that he would win and everyone was jumping on the wagon. If he continues this balancing act, the public is going to say, I should have known that it was to good to be true and this opens a hole for the republicans by some staying home from the poles and less people from other political ideologies jumping on the wagon. We can not have apathy this election, we need too many seats in too many places. I didn't read his book but my opinion of him caused me to vote for Hillary in the California primary. When the race tightened up I told myself that putting the party and the people in first priority was the thing to do and have since said I will vote for the dem in any case. He won the primary and generated appeal to others by saying he would not take money from special interests and would not listen to them but ever since he won all he has been doing is the opposite. Just to clear up a couple of things for those who are saying, boy you dems are sure... We are still a mob that is growing each day and facing the republicans with gritted teeth showing. Maybe we are not all happy with the way this turned out but we can argue amongst ourselves because we are motivated. Don't get your hopes up republicans, we are still going to vote for every dem on our tickets. You are the ones saddled with the party of corruption which is fading away. posted 06/26/2008 at 21:00:05
So, of the choices he had, it looks like not only are the predictable republicans taking the other side like expected, but he has ticked off his base too. Sly move there. For all of you folks that said he had a plan so just hold on a minute, it kinda looks like he called this one wrong. Now he can't change or he will just look silly to everyone. I wish he had taken advice from Dodd and Feingold on this one. Just lost a little piece of the old mo and I hope it doesn't effect other races. posted 06/26/2008 at 20:37:58

Supreme Court Upholds Right To Own Guns For Self-Defense

The framers of the constitution had as their primary concern the people versus the government. They had a belly full of authoritarian rule and tried hard to set up a government that could not abuse the citizens. They had just gone through a period where the average guys on the street had to be assembled with their personal firearms in order to form an army that fought for our independence. Without those firearms we would be british serfs today. The reason that there is a constitutional law to protect our right to personal firearms is because they suspected there may come a time when the citizens would do something foolish like let one group take over all branches of the government like we had prior to the dems midterm victory. I will be honest and say that for most of my life I have been in favor of less guns but the framers fears have come to pass and I am happy we have guns.It is ironic that the republicans were and are the ones who made it possible for us to have weapons and that we now are concerned with the republicans abusing the citizens. posted 06/27/2008 at 16:16:40
Not much argument here but you could have added one other thing. Our country has turned into greed monsters where a lot of people will do anything to get piles of money. A lot of people convicted of drug offenses either have regular jobs or did have but the lure of diamonds and, yachts and lamborghinis is where they are now. I remember watching miami vice when it first came out and thought that glamorizing this is not good. We are reaping some of the results of unregulated capitalism. posted 06/27/2008 at 14:44:26
You know, prior to this administration, I would have said that the right to own machine guns and big fifties was carrying our right to have fire arms a little to far. Hand guns and small machine pistols and machine guns seem to be the weapons of choice for criminals. The other night I saw a small piece on Countdown where Keith gave us an update on the group in Oklahoma, I think it was, that likes to shoot vans and hillsides with all kinds of heavy weapons and I actually got a warm feeling knowing that the general public has these kinds of weapons to defend ourselves from our government if the need arose. Isn't it sad that I now feel this way and am happy that the common people of this country are the most heavily armed of any country? It is also ironic that it is the republicans that have been so in favor of this arming and at the same time it is the republicans that I am happy we have the arms against. posted 06/26/2008 at 11:56:17

Nifty word bitter, try outraged. As far as our nation goes, many including myself will say that the nation of my first forty years is a lot different then today. I don't know why so many got scared and then voted republican, what have they done to earn this support? I feel let down by the silly half that voted republican over the last decade. I guess brutality is ok as long as the right people are the victims. Since when did a sin become more important then a crime against humanity? Oh, that's right, all you have to do for a sin is tell a priest and a crime against humanity is a little tougher to deal with. posted 06/26/2008 at 14:32:53

We have the fbi, cia, nsa and other law enforcement people who don't like to cooperate with each other. We have an administration that doesn't listen to anyone else including intelligence people from a out going administration. We survived for over two hundred years with out fisa. Maybe we should fix what is broken instead of putting something on the books that can be abused or ignored. There is absolutely no reason that this can not be put off till next year. posted 06/26/2008 at 01:21:01

Serenity Lost: Obama And The Netroots

but the question is what would have happened had they refused. You made the point but you are looking at from the wrong direction. Also you can not get to the king pins unless you get to the lackeys first. Ask any mob prosecutor. posted 06/25/2008 at 14:37:31
I here yuh but I disagree. We have a wave of correction building that can effect the out comes of many races in November. Once you break a wave in any place the whole thing may collapse. We have to keep the wave moving. He took the podium and declared he is the voice of change in a loud voice, what happens in the cloak room is not the point. He is the wave. posted 06/25/2008 at 13:39:45
Look folks, the reason that a lot of us are not happy with the big O right now is pretty simple. It is two other senators who are doing this and not the guy that we want to take charge and lead. I understand that two sides can contribute to a final agreement but that is if both sides want to reach a real honest agreement. In the last eight years we have learned that the other side does not or at least the ones at the top. The media and their abuse of us by using our air ways against us is probably the biggest problem we have. All of the rest comes from the ability to shout their message and prevent the other side a voice. The blogs are the only voice we have or have you forgotten? After the mess is cleaned up the big O can meet in the middle all he wants but by then the ones at the top on the other side will be gone or in prison. posted 06/25/2008 at 13:20:11
Now that you got that off your chest, feel better? Listening to other's points of view is what you said. Most right thinking (dem) people who post here understand the mess we are in and want to fix it. We have a media owned and used by the republicans to further their greed which is destroying this nation. You have a despot controlled by the same people who own the media. People whose job it is to investigate and convict organized crime realize that you have to get the evidence on one party in order to sit them down and make a deal to get all of the rest. Granting immunity to the media damages any chances of getting the rest. At the same time we are faced with a problem of the people's air ways being used against us and that has to stop. Most of the wave that is building wants law and order back in our lives so get out of our way and let us do the work. We will take you along for the ride. posted 06/25/2008 at 13:03:36

McCain's Campaign Funding Hypocrisy: Why Are the Media Looking the Other Way?

This is a forest for the trees situation. George and McCain aren't really top quality party candidates. They are the ones who have strings that can be pulled revealing their weak character to us and willingness to take orders from the string pullers. Why wouldn't the media, another tool of the string pullers, beat up on the front man? Do people really have to have this explained? The majority of republicans these days are the easy lead type with minimal character, thus all of the revealed scandals. They put one in place here and another there until they manage to have enough to pass the laws and hand down the rulings that the string pullers want. This is the reason that I and many others did not want immunity for the media. We have to crack this nut some where to start the total collapse. In my life time I have seen the purchase and take over of the media and the government, the worst nightmare of the founding fathers. Think about this and go back and look at the headlines like the one about McCain is ready to kiss the ring of the string pullers which are not the radical religious types but the ones using them. The radical religious types are just more of the same minimal character greedy easily lead types. posted 06/28/2008 at 14:47:26

Stopping this kind of talk by one of your own would be in your best interests and see to it that it doesn't happen. The first one was hard to believe and hard to take. If it did happen again in time for the election, a lot of people would start to get mad, not scared. Treating a country full of people like fools can have unpredictable results. The propaganda has to be good for their republican stooges in or running for office and the owners control of everything. It seemed like a great plan at the time and it did get you eight years but it is all falling apart now. In spite of the control, those darn people are voting dem in the next elections. They want everything investigated and want to put you in jail How ungrateful after all they did for us. Our expectations are just too large, we wanted crazy things like a home, a job, health care, education for our children that includes real science and happiness in our lives. There has to be repercussions laid out for someone with an approval rating in the twenties to do something like this. Can't the congress speak directly to the military and threaten prison time or something to prevent this from happening?
