Clinton Defends 'Obliterate Iran' Comment, Obama Calls It Bush-Style 'Cowboy Diplomacy'

I am for diplomatic negotiations and all, but do people really expect that a US president (whoever it is) will just sit around if Iran attacked Israel with nuclear weapons. That was the original question Hillary answered a few weeks ago (I think it was in the Philly debate).

I am not sure what people are objecting to. This posture is very similar to the one JFK adopted during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Of course, you want to send a strong message that the leadership in Iran doesn't even contemplate this line of thought.

Denise,

Your reason for not supporting Hillary reminds me of the great Indian epic "Ramayana" - it is the story of Lord Ram (an incarnation of Vishnu, the preserver in the Hindu trinity). It is estimated that it was written over 2000-3000 years ago.

To make a really long story short, Ram is exiled, his wife is kidnapped, and after a fierce battle he brings her back to his kingdom. He first ensures that she is "pure". At some point, one of his subjects comes up to him and says that if his wife had been living in another man's house (albeit, against her will), purity test notwithstanding, he would not have taken her back. The king was "forced" to turn her out.

I guess the more things change, the more they remain the same. posted 04/29/2008 at 18:10:32

Help for Political Junkies

that's funny. there was a story in Washington Post the other day, which, clearly anecdotal, talked about kids in Republican families were getting their parents to switch their party affiliation in PA so that they could get them to vote for Obama. And to "sweeten" the deal, the kids were filling out all the paperwork for the parents to switch their affiliation back to R.

So, if this Operation Chaos is underway, it appears to be directed at both candidates... posted 04/26/2008 at 20:57:25

Top 10 Celebrity Clinton Supporters

Did you follow the issue back in 1992? Bill's first big issue as president was to allow G&L's to serve openly in th military. One of the biggest obstacles was Sen. Sam Nunn (D-Georgia), who, I think, was the chair of the Armed Services Committee. His opposition basically forced Bill to compromise and institute "don't ask, don't tell".

The very same Sam Nunn has now endorsed Obama. Hopefully, his views on allowing G&L's in the military have evolved. posted 04/20/2008 at 21:49:49

carlotta, glad you mentioned the comment about "Senator Clinton was in her element". A very passive-aggressive attitude.

When they did get to the substantive questions, it was abundantly clear that Hillary knows way more than him. Clinton Downs A Beer And A Bump To Impress The Cool Kids, And This Dad's Not OK With That

having read it again, it appears that the writer really believes that he knows what was going on in Hillary's mind. If it is joke, it is brilliant.

From what I have read on other blogs, Hillary likes to have a drink or two in the evening (more power to her).

a lot of these dis-affected voters are also known as "Reagan Democrats", and one of the reasons was that they had switched to Reagan back in 1980 when they felt that the Democrats were getting too far ahead on social issues, etc. So, Obama sort of had it a little backward. posted 04/12/2008 at 15:16:39

Does The Secret Of The Universe Lie Underground?

the writer says, "...The so-called "Higgs Boson" has been dubbed the 'God Particle' because so many have searched for it but no-one has seen it, despite Higgs using scientific deductions to claim its existence as far back as 1964..."

It's called the "God-particle" (more for effect than for any real reason) because according to current theories it plays a very central role in our understanding of particle, e.g., it is responsible for giving mass to all other fundamental particles such as quarks, electrons, etc. Plus, it also plays other roles, almost a God-like role, if you believe in Creationism (or Intelligent Design)...

I know because I am one of the scientists searching for this particle. In fact, my experiment (ATLAS) is one of the ones deep in the ground under the French-Swiss border... posted 04/08/2008 at 18:52:16
I skimmed this link, and was amused by the following statement (among many others).

"...If you allow for the electrical structure of matter, the almost 2,000 fold difference in mass of the electron and proton will ensure that in a strong gravitational field charge separation will operate to prevent compression. Charge separation prevents the collapse of stars..."

Given that an electron and proton are oppositely charged, the force between them is always attractive! So, what is this charge separation the author keeps harping on?

Hillary's Bruce Willis Syndrome

well, last time I posted something, I got the following response:

"Isn't it true that the Indian community here has benefited from civil
rights while contributing virtually nothing? Isn't it true that the caste
system continues even here, as well as an inferiority complex left over
from British Colonial Rule, which causes internal division among Indians
here and which causes them , hidden in their Ivory Towers, to overly
identify with whites in an unctuous and sycophantic manner? African
Americans here, as well as many whites (and a big shout out to the Jewish
community) have made it possible for Indian Americans to go to these Big
10 Universities, many times at their own peril."

A slice of swiss cheese has less holes than the analysis in this screed. So, there is really nothing more to discuss. You guys can have the echo chamber to yourself.

Hillary And Bill: We Aren't Going Anywhere

here is a letter I sent Patrick Leahy. Should send a similar one to Richardson...

Dear Senator Leahy,

I read in the news that you want Senator Clinton to
drop out of the race for the Democratic nomination.

I guess you probably have already voted in the primary
in Vermont, and you also have an additional vote as a
super-delegate. Don't you think it is hypocritical of
you to try and take away the right of voters in states
that have not gone to the polls as yet? Basically, it
boils down to that you've had your turn, and you don't
really care about other voters. And, to think you are
the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee!

I live in Indiana and vote Democratic and I am very
annoyed by your attitude. I am not even going to get
into why I believe your preferred candidate, Sen.
Obama, is not the better of the two.

Obama & Co. Stop Taking the Bait

it is a bit surprising that no one mentions the vote last fall that labelled the Iranian revolutionary guard as a terrorist organisation. Hillary voted for it and was criticised.

Let's see how Senator Obama voted for it? Turns out, he wasn't even present in the Senate.

His aides claim that he wasn't given enough notice and couldn't get back into town in time (Dem. committee staff members say otherwise). Doesn't he have his own plane that takes him around for his campaign events? I can understand if Biden made this comment, since he didn't have a private plane. posted 03/27/2008 at 10:22:58
well, as a scientist, I am interested in their science policies. You can see what the two candidates think about this:

Now go to

and see her plan.

Which one do you think sounds like it is written by people who know what they are talking about. I was most distressed by the line on Obama's website that says, "...For example, one recent report demonstrated how federally supported research in fiber optics and lasers helped spur the telecommunications revolution.) Sounds like someone's middle-school science project. posted 03/27/2008 at 08:41:14

part of the problem is that it is not clear that Obama has any plans other than "...let's all get together, and we'll work it out...".

and for Mr. Ellis, who says, "...They, in general, are less-college-educated, blue-collar whites...". Gee, do you think you can be a little more condescending?

In any case, flip this sentiment around and say that Obama's supporters, especially, in Southern states are African-Americans, and suddenly you will be labelled a racist.

I am a scientist, doing research in physics, at a Big 10 university (I am originally from India). As such, I should be a Obama supporter, but the more I read about his positions, the more I get turned off. And, yeah, his supporters don't help either... posted 03/26/2008 at 21:28:08
