David Remnick On That New Yorker Cover: It's Satire, Meant To Target "Distortions And Misconceptions And Prejudices" About Obama

The New Yorker's readers will understand the purpose and point of the July 21 cover. The problem is that more Americans than not will take the cover literally.
The editors don't acknowledge that theirs is a rarefied audience. I've had a subscription to The New Yorker since I was thirteen-years-old. That was forty-five years ago and I'm not smart enough to read the magazine yet. posted 07/15/2008 at 02:16:26

The Week That Should Have Ended McCain's Presidential Hopes

Why do Republicans get a pass? No matter how loathesome their behavior or speech. From restroom and page antics to throwing old people into the streets, the Republicans really aren't that bad, huh? They're straight from hell and you better believe it. posted 07/12/2008 at 01:55:21

Support Obama for Women

We would do well to take Rep. Degette's words to heart. She chose them very carefully. A lesser person, like myself, would be way over the top confronting McCain's antics and his record. Either way the man poses a threat to everyone in this country except that 1% who control all the money. And even they will have nowhere to turn when the poor don't have even the strength to do their bidding anymore. posted 07/10/2008 at 20:34:41

Hillary's PUMA Voters: "It's Not Too Late!"

Good for you. If you were "every voter" in this country, elections might actually count for something. posted 07/08/2008 at 21:41:42

Surge Amnesia: The Media's Newest Affliction

While I will never understand why George Bush and his cronies continue to get a pass from America, if there is any explanation at all, it would have to be the bias of the media.
For most of my lifetime the media stood for laying out the truth for all to see. What the hell happened? posted 07/08/2008 at 21:58:17

Ted Kennedy To Lead Renewed Universal Health Care Effort

If any sort of universal health care ever beomes a reality in America, Democrats and even some Republicans will climb all over themselves trying to take credit. But only Ted Kennedy will have a right to it. posted 07/04/2008 at 03:59:13

Obama's Faith-Based Plan

Baloney. Government that separates itself from religion is not by definition immoral. If the U.S. government and churches attack the same problem, perhaps so much the better. But not in tandem. A combined church and state even in the slightest endeavor should smack of evil with even a cursory reading of history as recent as yesterday.
If the government is not in the hands of the likes of George Bush, the government's initiatives might well be faith-based without being church-based.
Just remember that the president who proposed faith-based initiatives is the same one who's presiding over his own axis of evil as we write.
Jefferson said there should be a concrete wall between church and state. Ignore him at your peril.
As for Senator Obama, he has now ventured onto the slippery slope in the name of winning the election. Still, he is far and away the better choice than John McCain, who slid down the slope eons ago. In prehistoric times, I believe. posted 07/02/2008 at 22:16:00

McCain's Campaign Funding Hypocrisy: Why Are the Media Looking the Other Way?

We would serve this country well if we write and speak of the media's misuse of power in America at every opportunity. These journalists and reporters have become as amoral as the Republicans themselves. To sum it up, they must be stopped. Not by limiting their freedom, but by our demanding the truth or nothing. posted 06/24/2008 at 15:30:14

Keith Olbermann Names Katie Couric "Worst Person In The World"

I was not a fan of Katie as a news anchor until today. I also did not know that Olbermann is a jerk and an idiot until today.
That so many people do not recognize the media's blitz against Hillary only illustrates its effectiveness. posted 06/12/2008 at 21:29:35

Katie Couric: Sexist Media Hurt Hillary Clinton's Chances

The fact that you think it was fair and square only illustrates just how effective the media's campaign against Hillary has been. posted 06/12/2008 at 21:24:56
