Russert's Legacy: A Woman Meeting the Press?

Tim Russert was good at what he did, but certainly not a journalistic giant, and the women he chose to show up on "Meet the Press" were hardly the "platter of diversity" described by Ms.Wilson. They are not "fresh" either, and I include in that number the likes of Mary Matalin and DorisKearns Goodwin who are trotted out out on ctically every major network news showas the token female talking heads. All are incredibly glib and predictable, as is Maureen Dowd. Who among this crew of retreads could replace Russert? No one I'd want to see....except maybe Arianna Huffington herself who was apparently banned. At least she'd be, er, "fresh." posted 06/21/2008 at 15:22:36

War of the Word

ohh please, bob baby. tThe sainted Obama threw his white granny under the bus in that speech he made so fair is fair: it's ok for Hillary to say his pastor would not be her Mr. Righteousness. posted 03/26/2008 at 17:22:35

Watch: Anderson Cooper Asks James Carville, "Dude, Aren't You Mr. Washington?"

Ordinarily, I don't pay much attention to the ravings of Carville or his rightwing wife, but I think anyone who isn't totally heartless would agree with Carville's characterization of Gov. Richardson as Judas for endorsing Obama. I mean, Richardson has only benefited from the Clintons' mentorship over the years and he even watched the Superbowl with Bill Clinton, his former boss, before sticking the shiv in Hillary's back in order to get a place on the winning side. What an asshole. posted 03/25/2008 at 13:39:29

Why Am I So Afraid

Erica, you are a talented phrasemaking writer whose one liners inspired a generation-the "zipless fuck,"and "fear of flying" still resonate. Why you are now afraid about the bickering among Dems is quite understandable, but I think your metaphor of the "stallion" (Obama)and the "beaver"(hillary) is pretty crude and way off the mark. Both are show ponies and it's too bad Edwards, the more progessive candidate, didn't get the funding and media coverage the other two did. Personally, I'm afraid of Obama--not because of his pussycat persona, but because he seems like a phoney--particularly in his much-too-late condemnation of remarks made over the years by his one time pastor and mentor, Jeriamiah Wright, Jr. Obama's speech re Mr. Wright may have inspired you but I regard it as simply expedient--a way to silence the critics. I fear the election will go to McCain because the worst in the Dems evoke the most passionate intensity, while the best may refuse to vote because they lack conviction about these two presidential job seekers caught up in the racial/gender divide. posted 03/22/2008 at 11:20:59

This Good Friday Let Us Not Crucify Barack Obama

overly effusive praise for Obama, who is not a saint but a mere mortal who gives good speeches. Anyone crazy for God or Obama's charisma strikes me as emotionally bereft like most fanatics. Think about it,. God guy. posted 03/21/2008 at 12:57:12
