Care about my fellow man. Taxes may rise, taxes may fall but we're all in this together. We're part of a society, not a bunch of individuals.

I'm Canadian and have worked in the US for over 15 years now. I've paid state and federal taxes all that time while getting very little in return, as I'm not a resident. All I've ever asked is that my tax payments be spent wisely.
Now, while not tooting my own horn but to make a point, I earn into six figures per year. This would generally make me a Rebublican supporter since I should want as low a tax payment as possible. Well, I'm a fervent Democrat and have been since JFK. The reason is that my societal view is that people shouldn't be allowed to fall through the cracks.
I'm not Mother Theresa but I find it difficult to fathom that anyone who lives in a society doesn't feel a responsibility to give everyone a chance at the "dream", not just those with a leg up on the escalator.
