Who is "Tough Enough To Make Hard Choices?" Clinton Beats Obama

Obama does not connect to middle class, blue collar people. They are the backbone of this country, the same folks that voted in George Bush, and they prefer Clinton. If it was Huck or Romney on the Repub side, we Dems could stand a chance with Obama as our nominee. But it's not, it's McCain, and he appears more independent of the Repub slime for those middle class, blue collar people. They can easily see themselves voting for McCain if the nominee is not Hillary.

I know this is hard news for the ardent fans of Obama, but I want a Dem in the White House in November, and that Dem will be Hillary. Obama can run again, if Michelle allows it. posted 05/06/2008 at 15:43:16

Please stop trashing our next presidential nominee. As folks have stated here when supporting Obama, "You are writing the GOP's commercials for them." It's time to unite, not broaden the gulf.

IMHO, Obama won early on as there was not much known about him. Stuff is coming out now, and middle America doesn't like what it's hearing. He is being vetted right before our eyes, and that is a painful thing to watch. He can always run again in 2016, when his current troubles will be long gone, and the nation will give him a shot at the thrown. posted 04/28/2008 at 15:33:44

Keith Olbermann's Idea For Beating Hillary: Literally Beating Hillary

Thanks for pointing this out Rachel. I stopped recording Olderman when I saw his favoritism shining through, so I was not aware of this recent bash he gave her.

What has happened to fair and balanced? Why do journalists not investigate, but just repeat what they are told? I'm referring to the Obama campaign claiming that Clinton is campaigning negative, when in fact, they are AT LEAST just as guilty. Reporters just repeat what they are told, rather than perform the necessary work of CHECKING IT OUT FIRST.

I've never heard the Clinton campaign question the integrity of Obama's character, nor have I heard them say he is dishonest, which he is. Yet, his campaign gets the proper spin for its accusations.

Obama Camp: Using Popular Vote Metric Just Ain't Gonna Work

Both were on the Florida ballot, and Obama ran ads there (due to a national advertising buy,), which amounts to campaigning, while Clinton did not.

As for Michigan, no one told Obama to take his name off the ballot, and he did so quite close to election day as he knew Clinton was ahead and he did not want to be taken down a notch. He did, however, run ads asking folks who wanted to vote for him to select 'uncommitted.' Again, that amounts to campaigning.

If Clinton has the popular vote, and Obama can"t win in the key states, it"s a no-brainer to have the supers step up and do what is right for the party. We already know that Obama won"t do what is right as Michelle has stated that this is his only run, and that if Clinton is the nominee, she won"t vote for her. Even if he declines at that point, Hillary will still win in the important swing states she's shown she can win, and she will still get the African American vote as they know the Clintons are not racist. Very brave post for this site. And right on the money.

I work along the same lines - start at the general with who can beat the GOP. Clinton is that person, as although they will bring up her 'baggage,' my sense is most folks will skim over it as we've heard it all before. Not so with Obama. And in this youtube age, he really is in for some ugly, ugly crap thrown at him.

The smart move would be a Clinton/Obama ticket. He would learn the ropes, his past would become just that as folks will have absorbed it all and there would be no surprises. More importantly, after 8 years as VP, pressing levers and moving mountains, he could actually clean up Washington once he is elected in 2016.

This is a no-brainer, but I'm afraid egos get in the way with politics. posted 04/22/2008 at 19:44:38

"...whose only scandal are those of other people and not his..."

Now that's just not true. It was Obama who lied about Rezko (5 hours of billing), it was Obama who repeatedly said he did not know what his pastor was saying only to change his tune days later, it was Obama who lied about filling out a questionnaire that later proved to have his handwriting on it, it was Obama who lied to the people of Ohio while his campaign staff made promises to Canada, it was Obama who lied about "never saying anything about wearing a flag lapel pin" (I could care less-just pointing out another lie) but it is out there on Youtube, AND it was Obama who caused "bittergate" that will bite him in the a** come November. Then there was the plagiarism thing, his stance against Clinton - that she is divisive and has character issues, and many other attack themes/names that he gets a pass on.

My point being, he is a politician. He is not some messiah, he is not some 'change' phenomenon. He does what all candidates do. He's running a great campaign, but the reality is, come the general, he won't be able to win it. And this is obvious as he hasn't put Hillary away yet, even with all those millions and her supposed negatives. posted 04/21/2008 at 23:28:05

Hillary Clinton Slams MoveOn With Karl Rove's Lies

Aw, come on! I used to love MoveOn back in the day. I changed my mind; why can't she? posted 04/18/2008 at 22:25:57
They had a vote over a 2 day span. If you weren't reading your emails, your voice was left out. If you passed over the MoveOn email that day due to a busy schedule, your voice was left out. If you wanted to take some time to consider your choice, and did not do so within that small window, guess what? Your voice was left out.

The larger issue is that MoveOn does some good work but has changed recently. More importantly, though, they should NEVER have gotten involved in choosing a candidate during the Democratic primary season. They should have waited until that was decided, and just backed the winner.

And Leda, I believe you, if that counts for anything. I've been heavily involved with MoveOn for years, and doubt I will be doing my ritual GOTV work during the general. Let's hope the young people do take up the slack this year. posted 04/18/2008 at 22:24:05

You guys have got to start being more honest. Or at the least, be knowledgeable.

I am still a MoveOn member, and during each election, I've been heavily involved with GOTV work through them. Not sure about this general election, though, as I too am not happy with their prejudices. posted 04/18/2008 at 21:35:41

It seems to me that this primary season has been a boon to the Democrats (voter registration numbers WAY up), so one shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth. And trust me, if they were all registering for Obama, there would be a much bigger gap in the popular vote.

As for your comment, "I grow more disgusted with Hillary and supporters every day that passes... and I started off supporting her in December. Way to go!", I can say the same thing. I was for Obama before I was against Obama. I wanted to believe, but did some homework and realized he is not yet vetted and we will be screwed come November.

In addition, I do find him arrogant (please, no racist crap responses), and his and his campaign staff digs on Hillary and Bill, that rarely get the full media scrutiny, are just as bad.

I am shocked at how the Democratic party has turned on this former first couple, and there are many like me who are frustrated with this current lack of respect. I've spoken to quite a few folks who won't vote for him come November due to the vitriol received from supporters, and that does not bode well for the party.

So, keep believing, but know that you are screwing our chances come November. posted 04/15/2008 at 18:54:53
You are correct, and I am not sure what 'joe' and many others are smoking.

I understand they see in Obama something special - they guy gives great speeches, and I, too, was hooked back in 2004. However, he has not been vetted, and we are now beginning to see the real man, the one that the majority of the country will not vote for. Yes, he is ahead in the nominating process, but you must look at the 'how' of that. Caucuses are not the way the country votes, and Wyoming will not go blue in November.

The reality is, and please Obama supporters, realize this before it is too late for us, Obama cannot win the general. I know you love him, but we need a Democrat in the White House. Please, remove the blinder and try to be objective, not emotional. posted 04/15/2008 at 15:38:12

TAKE 2 - guess you moderators don't like the truth.

Obama is a liar. Here's a WAPO article detailing his bundling of funds.

Obama Triangulates and Won't Go Where Other Great Americans Will on Hamas

I'm not fooled either.

I, too, have noticed his "waiting to see how others will vote" or even speak on certain issues.

He is an opportunist of the worse variety as he has so many young people duped, young folks that won't return to involvement once this man loses in November. Our loss. And what's worse is they have followed in the footsteps of Michelle - they won't vote for Hillary if she is the nominee.
Yeah, that's teaching 'em. posted 04/11/2008 at 00:24:53

Obama: Repeal of "Don't Ask" Possible

Point being he was too chicken to be seen with Newsom as Newsom actually had the courage do stand up and do the right thing after hearing Bush ask for a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. It has nothing to do with Gavin being straight, and everything to do with Obama being a wus.

You are correct Wayne. Not only did he do that nasty McClurkin debacle, he went trolling for gay votes in Texas the Friday prior to the Texas 2-step, only to announce the following day that he wants Hagel to be part of his administration. Hagel is NOT gay-friendly.

The guy is just another typical politician who will say and do anything for votes. He just gets treated like teflon by the press. At some point, they will lay into him, and we'll end up with McCain as president. posted 04/10/2008 at 19:22:48
Pssst. Obama refused to be seen with/was afraid of being photographed with Mayor Newsom after Newsom threw a couple of fundraisers for him. He is weak, and the sooner you all face that reality, the sooner we can get a Democrat in the White House.

Who Can Beat McCain?

StandingStill wrote:
How do we get the Obama supporters to go along with your logic that Hillary has the best chance to beat McCain when over 50% of the country doesn't like her? What do we say to the Blacks, "This Black guy won the most delegates, the most states, the popular vote but we're going to give it to Hillary because we don't like the way the Rev. Wright preaches?"

She has already garnered over 12 million votes, and that is just in the primary. Not sure how you can state "over 50% of the country doesn"t like her." She seems to have wide support, maybe not yours, but support from many others.

I know in my heart that most African Americans don"t see Senator Clinton as a racist and they will vote for her if she is the eventual nominee. Not all, but most will. Just like most older women will come round and vote for Obama if he is the nominee. My concern is that it won't be enough once the GOP slime machine is in full force. Now, we can stick our head in the sand and 'just believe,' or we can face the ugly reality that is this nation - GOP slime wins elections. posted 04/06/2008 at 20:20:07
We have two really good candidates, both with their warts. As opposed to listing attributes and downsides, I"ll just summarize the reality I see.

Senator Obama had a great shot at the presidency prior to the Wright controversy. Fly-over America will not vote for him en masse now, and to believe otherwise is tantamount to lunacy. The majority of this country (subconsciously) love fear, and the GOP will use Obama"s pastor to put the fear of god into them. Fear worked for Bush, and the GOP will use it again and again.

As unfortunate as it is for the folks here to realize, Hillary has more of a chance of beating McCain. posted 04/06/2008 at 16:23:21

How to Avoid a Democratic Disaster

Hate to point this out to you, but that moment has come and gone. And while the MSM isn't trashing him YET, they will be if he is the nominee.

Here's just some of what the GOP will use. This stuff is all out there for those that do their homework, especially the GOP swift boaters.

Sad, but true. He is no longer electable on his own, and once the GOP starts in on him, his numbers will tumble. Sadly, most here won't see that. He will need the Hillary supporters to make it through the general, and there are many who are so angry, they will not hold their noses this time and vote for the Democrat.

Welcome President McCain. posted 03/31/2008 at 23:50:46
Make it primaries and I'm with you.

Caucuses tend to keep working mothers out of the process, shift workers out of the process, older people who don't drive at night out of the process. The democratic process we say we believe in.

Make it primaries and see where the chips fall. posted 03/31/2008 at 23:35:59
Be prepared to be mauled here. Some folks at this site are not kind to level-headed thinking.

It is frightening to me to see the party I used to be proud of now rolling around in the gutter. It saddens me to read so much venom about our former president and first lady, folks that we used to stand up for against the right wing machine. And this ugliness has come from so many folks I used to respect.

I think your proposal has merit, as at this stage, there are so many women who feel insulted by the way things have been handled. Make that mis-handled. The DNC and some party members seem to forget the work many women have done over the years for ANY Dem candidate. I sense from many a change of heart this time around. And that is not good for our nation, as President McCain will be placing a couple of supremes on the bench - a frightening thought.

Thanks for posting, but again, be prepared to receive some not so nice replies. posted 03/31/2008 at 20:46:27

"And, if Obama wins the nomination, (which is how it now appears) the Clinton camp needs to get behind Obama."

You can probably count on losing a good portion of Clinton's camp. Just as most folks here believe that Clinton is trying to 'steal' the nomination, so do the Clinton supporters believe that the DNC is taking the nomination from Clinton. Whether the numbers are there or not, this is what is believed to be true as many (especially here) keep pushing her to drop out. Meanwhile, the two candidates are very close in number and neither can win without the supers.

I don't think Obama can count on the support of Clinton's folks without kissing some a**. And he is WAY above that, right? posted 03/31/2008 at 18:03:02
