David Remnick On That New Yorker Cover: It's Satire, Meant To Target "Distortions And Misconceptions And Prejudices" About Obama

Unfortunately therea are too many low level information voters for this to be in Obama's advantage and then you are dealing with 527's and other vile groups that will use something like this to promote a negative Obama image. It is all about perception. And this cartoon does not promote a favorable perception of Obama. It could have been inserted on the inside, like they do with many of their cartoons, not on the front cover. posted 07/14/2008 at 09:39:49
No, it is not humorous. It would be if this country was beyond the smear-fear politics to understand it, but when you see these kind of images in your e-mail and all over the country, all it does is reinforce this perception of Obama as a muslim and of Michelle as anti-patriotic. I will never ever buy an issue of the New Yorker again. It is a disgrace. They could have posted a different kind of cartoon,. There has to be unity in our party if we are to defeat McCain. If you don't like the democratic party, then form your own. But Obama won by the rules of the DNC. I rest my case. Obama Hasn't Ruled Out Clinton As Vice President

As an Obama supporter, I have no problem with Hillary being VP. The real problem here is Bill Clinton. And Obama is right to see it as a potential liability. Imagine Bill and Hillary sharing the spotlight with Obama. And Bill of all people, who loves the spotlight. He wouldn't like to stand in the background. This type of presidency would be more like a triumvirate, roman style. I do not know if this would even work. Clinton: Why I Voted No On FISA

I agree with you. Obama cannot win on an all progressive agenda. He has to move some to the right like Bill CLinton did. Once in the WHite House he will support progressive agendas. I cannot beleive som people are considering voting for McCAin. How can you turn against a mainly progressive candidate and vote for a conservative one who wants more wars, no changes and wants to favor the wealthy? The only losers here will mainstream America who is already suffering from the horrible Bush policies. If you vote for McCAin you are no progressive and no democrat. You are a republican who yearns to have more of Rove, Cheney and Bush. posted 07/10/2008 at 00:46:02

Fine, then the right will win and progressives will lose. No healthcare reform, no living wages, no job security, no adequate housing, possible backtrack on many women's issues. If you are truly a progressive, youwill not let McCAin and the GOP win in Nopvember. Had Hillary won the nomination, I would have voted for her. I am not voting for the candidate but mainly because I am a progressive democrat to the core and this country can't take any more of the GOP policies and destruction of the environment. Now McCain wants to drill everywhere. Sorry but the environment and healthcare are biggies for me even more than FISA and gun rights. You can't win them all . posted 07/10/2008 at 00:36:19
I am sorry you feel deceived, but as a progressive I do see the big picture and in this country you do have to compromise in some ways to be able to win an election. No candidate will ever win an election on an all progressive agenda. Bill Clinton was no liberal, he was a moderate democrat. Had he moved to the left, he would have never won. Obama 's presidency will do a lot of good in many ways and he may move again to the left once in power, just like Bush moved to the right. I will continue to support Obama and will double my donations because I don't want to see the GOP in power again. It is up to us progressives to set the agenda and influence Obama's policies once he is elected. If McCain wins we will never even get a chance to be heard. It is scary to think what his policies will be if he is elected. Then you will be yearning once again for Obama.Let 's not be divided over this. We will fail, the right will win. posted 07/10/2008 at 00:29:50

Hillary only voted no on this because she is not the nominee. She has never taken any political risks. It is easy to do that now that she is not running. If you don't want to vote Obama that is fine, but not voting for him because he voted yes on one bill is simply givng McCAin a chance to destroy wahtever is progressive in America. Obama is a progressive, but he cannot run on an all progressive agenda or he will not win at all. We need to put him in the White House and then influence his agenda just like the conservatives influenced Bush. If McCAin is in the WHite House, the progressives will never stand a chance. It will be Bush all over and you know this. posted 07/09/2008 at 20:08:56

Obama is not mediocre and Hillary was more centrtist than him. Obama knows that he cannot only win with "progressive" votes. He needs to attract more mainstream America. He hasn't changed at all. He is as pragmatic as her has always been. He has always said he wants to listen to all Americans, not just those on the left. posted 07/05/2008 at 11:51:30
As a progressive I don't think Obama's late moves to the center are a threat to his brand. There are no black and white solutions or answers to complex problems. What I see, is a man who is a thinker and willing to look at something from different angles. Obama is not selling out as this article implies. He simply is pragmatic and undersatands that to win this election he has to "prove" himself to mainstream America that he is not a radical leftist and that he is willing to see the views from other people. As progressives we cannot expect the American voter to vote "en masse" for someone with too many change ideas. That , simply wont happen. Change will come gradually with Obama,'s leadership and with the approval of the majority of the voters, but you can't shove down the throat of the citizens of this country an all leftist agenda. In politics, after all, compromises have to be made. This nation is not made of only progressives and progressives only wont win this election. Please take that in consideration before you start bashing Obama's every ideological position. We need for him to win this election and then exert our influence on him to move the country in the right direction. After all, the country will be much better off if Obama wins in November than if McCain wins. posted 07/05/2008 at 11:46:19

Obama has moved to the center in some issues. As a realist, I do realize he will not win the general election running as a leftist. He is the candidate of change in a whole lot of issues and he will bring new perspective to WashingtonDC. He needs to proceed with caution unless you want the GOP to win another 4 years. Think about the environment, health, wages, jobs, judges and civil rights fairness before you start attacking Obama. He is our best choice and he will bring the change we need posted 06/28/2008 at 14:56:09

I would not rely on the Chicago Sun Times for truthful information. They get their facts wrong all the time because they are sensationalist. The Chicago Tribune is a much more serious newspaper and it has endorsed Obama posted 03/28/2008 at 20:07:41

Flashback: Wright's Letter To NYT About Obama

Obama has known Wright is controversial, what he probably didn't'know is that he made such inflammatory statements. Why do people see evertyhing black or white? Do you know everything that your pastor has said or written in the past 20 years? No!!! Why are we such hypocrites? Why do we hold our candidates for president to such high impossible standards? Obama is a decent, honest man who is willing to see different points of views. That to me is more important than having a president who surrounds himself with people who only think like him. posted 03/28/2008 at 08:59:28
Obama didn't know any message of hate. Haven't you read anything? posted 03/28/2008 at 08:54:27
