I've been to a Schwarzenegger "Town Hall meeting" and it was no different.

It was staged. It was attended by invitation only to make sure participants were supporters. The questions were planned in advance and the questioners were coached. It wasn't a Town Hall meeting. It was a lecture, a play, a scripted event.

I won't make you heave in envy over what *I* can do. I've owned my home for over 20 years.

(hang a ceiling fan, seat a toilet, sweat a copper hot water pipe, hang a slab door after hand beveling and mortising, tile, plumbing, electrical and oh yes....paint).

I will give you one word of advice. Okay. More than one. First...make sure you have the correct tools for the job. Otherwise it will take longer and look crappy. Second....It always takes twice as long and you'll be missing at least one tool. But....if you do it yourself, you'll usually do a better job than someone you hire because it's *your* house and you care more about it. You can't pay anyone enough to care more than you do.

And painting is nothing.

Here's what really happened.

A company owned by Blackwater got a permit from the city to modify a facility in a business park for occupational training, thus hiding the fact that it was BLACKWATER that was really applying for the permit.

The code for zoning in this business park permits occupational training which they listed on their permit. What they didn't disclose was that among other things, they planned to install a shooting range.

They lied on the permit in order to meet the code requirements for zoning in that area.

An artist paints because he has to. For the same reason a dancer dances or a composer creates music. It is a compulsion. It is a joy. It is a calling. When you create something for the sole purpose of making money and getting rich, then you are a capitalist. And some capitalists don't really create anything. They just buy or sell. They are Richard Gere in Pretty Woman. They don't build anything.

When the focus is on making money and then making more money and then keeping as much of it as possible, there is no place for 'creative capitalism'. Because for these people, he who dies with most money wins. They want to stay on the Forbes 400. They don't care about the Slate 60. And if giving money away gets them a few notches down on Forbes, they won't do it. The only reason they DO give money away is that they get a deduction on their income taxes. You better believe all of their accountants have calculated exactly how much money they can give away and HOW it's given away to maximize the amount they can keep.
