Study: Obama-Backed Illinois Gas Tax Holiday Actually Worked

Also missing from this argument is the consideration that a state's action has a different effect than a national one. If more people from neighboring states went to Illinois to get gas during this time, it would alter the effect. If the gas tax vacation was national, there would be no out of state crossover. posted 05/06/2008 at 15:42:03

Reminiscent of the shoulder pad females of the 70's who wore ties to prove they were more male. If women are looking for a role model, this comparison disproves Hillary's fitness for the role. You lost me when you repeated that silly Clinton argument that if we were using the Republican rules, Hillary would have already won. At the same time I am ashamed that in a week during which the Pope visited and talked about our responsibility to each other, so much hate and racism would be exhibited especially by white Catholic women. Maybe it is fear of the unknown: better a known liar than someone who is not like us. As for being outspent, I am so tired of this argument and the fact that the Clintons keep spinning it. Clinton Backer Distributes Essay On How GOP Would Link Obama To '70s Radicals

In sticking to the facts and NOT defending Bill Ayers, according to what I read he was never involved nor wanted to hurt any person. When an error in preparing a bomb killed three of their members (including Ayers' girlfriend at the time), they changed their approach. OTHER members of the Weathermen were involved later in a Brinks robbery that resulted in deaths. I agree with you that Obama should address this eventually and include Ayers. posted 04/19/2008 at 13:36:11
The answer is that it is what they do. Just like in South Carolina. Put it out there and hope that the impact of what they say and/or do will have more effect than the follow up. How many people were impacted by what Senator Clinton said about Bosnia? Many of them have already voted. In NH, she said absolutely the Florida election should not count because that was a hot topic in NH. A NH newspaper said she duped the voters of NH. What she said the other night about Bill Ayers was another example of playing fast and loose with the truth. There was an article written about Bill Ayers by a Chicago newspaper because of a book he had written. It included quotes from Ayers about wishing they had done more TO STOP THE WAR IN VIET NAM. The article was REPRINTED in the NYTimes on 9/11. Bill Ayers DID NOT say on 9/11 that he wished they had set more bombs. That is something that Cinton has put out there and another example of her saying something she knows to be 'not the facts.' For most of us, that would be a lie. posted 04/19/2008 at 13:32:38

Pa. Voters Divided Over Obama Remarks

I wish someone would post Robert Reich's column here. (Sorry I don't know how.) We are all being pulled in by the media finding a 'big' story that could drag out over 5 days now. Senator Obama meant no disrespect. In fact, he was responding to the implication that poorer white voters would not vote for a black man and thus gave a list of why people in a certain socieconomic category choose their candidates and/or issues and that it WAS NOT about race. At least, that is my take on what I read. If you see the interview he did on Charlie Rose in 2004 (replayed last night) he explained it far better than he did last week. There have been lots of 'reasons' to be insulted by things that these candidates say. My husband and I do not fit the profile of Obama supporters and could certainly take offense by characterizations that are put forth by Clintonites. What we are more offended by is the ineffectiveness of a national government that bankrupts our nation with military and economic policies that put all of us in danger. We aren't setting the bar too high when we say we would choose Obama over a candidate who lies blatantly, publicly and repeatedly. posted 04/15/2008 at 12:59:42

Campaign AdWatch: Pennsylvania Yells At Obama

That is not what I got from what I read that he said. And, if you go back and watch him on Charlie Rose in 2004 you will see him saying similar things. The question is how do democrats do a better job of attracting this certain group of potential voters. What I understood is that he is saying that when people have no hope and/ or trust that the government will do anything to improve their lives they will cease to care about issues that might favor them because they don't trust that anything will be done. So for example, if one candidate was offering a true universal heath care plan they wouldn't attract the 'natural' voter who would benefit from better health care coverage. That voter might choose the 'other' candidate who favored something more 'emotionally' appealing (gun control) even if that candidate might be in favor of other things that were not in the financial interest of this voter. It is complex and I probably didn't explain it well either but it is an ongoing challenge. What Obama clearly expressed was that he DIDN't think it was racially motivated. posted 04/14/2008 at 22:59:58

Once again, Clinton surrogate Rendell misrepresents the Obama position. What I have heard is an argument based on the national vote: If, after the elections were finished and the delegates counted, the superdelegates were used to push the person with fewer votes and/or delegates over the top of the person who had the plurality. I don't believe there was a mention of individual state or district representation. If you were to follow that argument, should every superdelegate from California go for Clinton because she won the state even though our congressional district went for Obama? Where would you draw the line? They always use the high profile example of Kennedy & Kerry when in Maryland the superdelegates have continued to say they would support Clinton despite Obama's big statewide win there. Also, there is Hawaii where Sen. Inouye supports Clinton but Obama dominated the votes in the state. The only sensible way to view this argument is on the national level. What Rendell said (and got away with unchallenged) is ridiculous spin. posted 03/23/2008 at 12:22:02

Reactions to a Tough Decision

It was closer in Ohio and Texas than anyone could have predicted. HRC is not totally inept so it is expected that she will win some contests. There are, however, some things that happened that helped her win those states and they are not positive things. Included would be race, fear and ignorance. When you are afraid of having either a woman, a black man or a white man, most people gravitate to the familiar white man. When there is no choice of a white man, these people will have to choose the less offensive bias. In the end, people who think this way will probably go with McCain because the familiar white man as president is what they feel most comfortable with despite the policy differences. The other factor is the so call Limbaugh effect. In Cuyahoga County in Ohio they are investigating voter fraud as they had so many people switch parties to vote for HRC. One even wrote on the form that they were switching to being a Democrat 'for one day'. In Ohio that is voter fraud and they are actively investigating thousands of such votes. posted 03/22/2008 at 07:58:11
