Stuff about Nitpicker
A veteran marketing communications, marketing, advertising person with former duties as a higher education professor and administrator. I have taught History from pre-colonial America to International Atomic Diplomacy, as well as media in all forms from silent signals to interactive electronic media.
After teaching, my work has been developing a corporate image, mass media, advertising, research, and marketing communications. I’ve been involved almost exclusively with corporate launches, revamps, start-ups, new businesses, and turn arounds. My experience is extensive with value assessment. I have skills in professional video, film, photography, and electronic media. I have a knack for recognizing trends. Much of my work has been to identify, prepare, and deliver appropriate messages pertaining to the end user.
I have developed Nitpicker's Theorem. “The presentation form of information is inversely proportional to the audiences need to know.” In other words, the less important the information to be relayed the more of something is required to convey the information.
No silver spoons here. My formal education includes a B.A. in History (nuclear history and diplomacy), M.Ed. in Foundations of Education (training and mass media), and a Ph.D. in Communications and Technology (interactive media). Informal education has been life, travel, a personal wish list, and acquaintances. Most people call me by my first name. My friends can call me anything they wish.
I formerly belonged to Mensa but let it lapse. I like to think I’m quick to adjust, willing to help, able to tell and take a joke. I can speak relatively intelligently on a number of subjects and permit myself some opinions in the correct circumstances and in appropriate company.
I don’t take well to, and I am personally not a “screamer.” I hold people to their word. I take pride in not asking anyone to do stuff I would not do myself, and try to mentor if that’s what is desired. I like to work—especially with talented and creative people, but I have zero tolerance for, and don’t care a hoot for, so called “arteeists” who refuse to negotiate to reach a goal for the sole reason of “artist prerogative” or “creative process.” I appreciate their being willing to take a stand, but not so that it hinders a goal.
I go out of my way for museums, historical places, and a good flea market, and have been known to scrub tires stopping, when one appears. I’m good with and like working with my hands. I'm decent at it and getting better. Good tools of all sorts are my friends. They’re not for display. They are clean, tuned, used, and cared for.
When confronted with a difference of opinion, I want the opportunity to make my case. I do it for others and I expect no less. I enjoy a mix of people and cultures but I also reserve the right to prefer the company of my animals to some humans.
