Arianna And SNL's Fred Armisen Appear On "Connections With Jennie Saunders"

It is the inability to change your position no matter how circumstances changes or the facts demonstrate that you are wrong that brands you as a right winger. Even when demonstrably wrong, your ideology demands that you hold on and deny reality. When your ignorance obstructs your ability to see a problem as it is, rather than as you were taught, you are a right winger.

Arriana is a bright woman and I refuse to hold it against her that she is incidentally gorgeous. Nothing sexier than a working brain. Remember that it is not the physical equipment that is important. It is the operator. She is a better than first class operator. posted 07/19/2008 at 07:15:50

Fast-Food Chains In NYC Post Calorie Info

40 years ago I prepared the a big Mac for the first time when I was a high school student working at McDonald's. It was an unappetizing mess then and it remains one now. It falls into America's pursuit of fats, salt and sugar. It alcks much in the way of flavor and chewable consistency. In 40 years I have eaten 4 of them, once each decade to remind me why I don't like them.

They used to cost 39 cents and were overpriced even then. (I still like the fish sandwich but restrict myself to only one of them each month.)

I was there when the sign changed from 2 millions sold to 3 millions sold. After we changed it to 4 millions sold we went with millions and millions sold and even that disappeared quickly. The average sale was less than $1.00 by the time I went off to college in 1969. posted 07/19/2008 at 10:44:25

Harold Ford Heckled Over Fox Comment At Netroots Nation

Politics is about money. In this nation anyone with enough assests can buy any legislation they want to buy. The Democrats will sell America off just as quickly as the Republicans.

No one retires from Congress poor. Leaving Congress means getting a job that will add $1 million to your net worth in no more than 3 years.

Doing what is best for the nation is never higher than second in any politician's priority list, mostly it never gets quite that high.

As soon as the Supreme Court decided that money equates to free speech we were doomed. The speech bought by sacks of money will always drown out the moans of the starving and sick poor and the slipping of the middle class into poverty. posted 07/19/2008 at 10:29:38

I don't understand why you accuse liberals of all this BS? It is reactionaries that are the problem since all they want to happen is people dying. It is liberals who created the state of Israel against all the obstacles that the reactionaries put in their way. Some of the liberals later became conservative and lied that Israel was all their doing. Israel's worst problems came into existence when the conservatives took over.

After the savings and loan debacle of late 1980s, all my rich friends were looking for profitable deals to pick off as the government sold the properties it had to take in compensation for the $100 billion dollar the taxpayers provided to help those poor bankers and S&L officers out.

The rich borrowed the money and threw it away and then they bought the distressed properties at a steep discount.

Since Bad Government Costs the Same as Good, Let's Choose Good

Any government that permits the assets of the nation to be concentrated in a few hands will be permitting the sale of legislation. As the assets of the country are owned by fewer people those people tend to buy legislation that insures their hegemony over the populace.

This is an intentional strategy to destroy democracy. Once legislation is up for sale, nothing will happen that is beneficial for the general populace. It will make no difference which party is in charge since all or the majority of the legislators will have been bought and paid for by those whose wealth permits such purchases. posted 06/30/2008 at 11:28:32
It always makes sense to have good rather than bad government and it is to be devoutly desired. It has been the contention of conservatives that any government that does good is inherently bad. In this case doing good is defined as taking into accoun the needs, wishes and desires of all the citizenry rather than doing good for the rich and hoping that enough crumbs fall of their feasting tables to feed the poor and middle class.

Expenditures are dependent on what exactly is being purchased. America's conservatives have ardentky fought against infrastructure expenditure but are more than willing to spend tons of money on armaments and tax breaks for those who need it the least in our society.

Even stranger yet they insist on privatizing military tasks by spending much more money on mercenaries that they are willing to pay soldiers. That is income/expense shifting which they decry whenever anyone suggests progressive taxation. posted 06/30/2008 at 10:26:25

NAFTA was not totally Clinton. Papa Bush got it started but Billy boy kept it going without paying attention to the potential consequences.

No one in the government will allow any discussion of unanticipated consequences because so fe wpeople in the administration or legislature spend the time learing what it is they are voting for and why some lobbyists are pushing/paying for it.

The minute a corporate lobbying group pushes any action, it is important to introduce an amendment that disallows that entire industry from ever profiting from it., unless the lobbyists clarify what the advantages are for its group and how deletriously it will affect the general public. posted 06/30/2008 at 10:16:29
The conservative contention that government is bad was reached through their analysis of what happened each time they they took the reins of government. Their incompetence at running an institution that should operated for the benefit of all is all the proof they need. If they can't do it correctly, why should they assume someone else might succeeed? (There is one other obstacle that stands in their way, their need to appease the rich at the expense of the poor and middle class.) posted 06/30/2008 at 06:32:00

McCains Defaulted On Home Taxes For Last Four Years, Newsweek Reports

Most people like Cindy McCain have an accountant who tracks all bills and makes sure they are paid.
Someone made the decision not to pay the taxes each year when the bills showed up. It was not an oversight but rather a decision on the part of whoever is in charge of taking care of the matter.

All that said, the blame can't be laid at Mccain's feet since I doubt that he ever sees such bills and he may not even know the person whose job it is to keep them paid.

Cindy's personal after tax income is about $300,000 per month or about $3,600,000 per year. It is quite doubtful she was short each of the past few years and made a decision to let this puny sum slide. posted 06/30/2008 at 06:44:57

Sunday Roundup

Bush is not stupid so much as he is ignorant, arrogant and utterly indifferent to anything and anybody he is not personally interested in at the moment. He is very resentful of anyone who displays erudition and intellect.

What amazes me is his desire to go on the lecture circuit to make money. He is the champion poor speaker of my life time. I learned English in 1963 and I admit that I had some rpoblems with public speaking during my first few years. I have yet to hear anyone running for office who is as bad GW Bush is at giving a talk.

I stand ready to be corrected in this matter. I may have missed someone during the past 45 years who performed more poorly than Bush has. posted 06/29/2008 at 14:41:27

False Obama Muslim Rumor Spread Quickly And Widely Throughout The Internet

" "as a matter of Islamic law began life as a Muslim" due to his father's religion.""

Since when does American give a damn about Islamic law? How many Americans are ever heard to say, "you should not do that, it is contrary to Islamic law?"

Considering that christians are often trying to convert people to christianity, how often do worry about which religion the new convert was before they took him in.

Hypocricy is an essential building block of American politics. Ooops I meant of conservative American politics. I have yet to hear a conservative operative speak who was not a hypocrite. Conservative have so little intellectual ammunition at hand that hypocracy and personal smears are indsipensible to them. posted 06/28/2008 at 13:32:02

Carville Knocks Politico Reporter: "I Don't Know If I'd Know Ben Smith If He Fell On Me"

I am amused that Ben Smith fails the accomplished test because some readers are not familiar with him. This is akin to ID proponents who claim that if they can't explain how something came to be it is proff that a supernatural force created it.

The shortcomings of the people writing in response tp this blog prove that Ben Smith is a nobody and no one. Bah humbug! posted 06/28/2008 at 13:42:46

McCain Flip Flops Again -- Praises GI Bill He Opposed

McCain will back any bill that does not cost money unless its money for war or for the rich. If you cut those 2 out, he will vote against but take credit for passage if it passes.

Somehow McCain who is very wealthy imagines that he is just common folk. Between him and his wife, their income is at least $300,000 per month. They keep up 11 residences and a private jet. Thois makes them richer than at least 99% of Americans. His connection to common folks is that he lives in North America and so do they. posted 06/28/2008 at 13:37:16

Joining GOP's Bold March Backwards, Bobby Jindal and Louisiana Democrats Pass "Stealth Creationism" Education Bill

You can't teach atheism. You either believe or you don't. Belief is taught by parents or churches. Which institutions teach non-belief? Cerainly not schools.

If you want your children to believe nonsense you are allowed to instill nonsense into them. If you wish to teach them empirical skills you can do so.

Denying that science has anything worthwhile to say about the universe is at its most generous stupidity.

It is science that is responsible for your computer which was intelligently designed by a human being or maybe many human beings but not by a supernatural force of some sort. posted 06/28/2008 at 07:14:20
