I agree, but must say that a 9% approval rate doesn't state WHY people are dissatisfied with Congress.
A right-winger may not like them because we haven't halted abortion or done away with the Dept. of Education.
As a liberal, I think the Democrats in Congress misled the people who put them there--to end the occupation of Iraq, hold the Bush Administration accountable (high crimes), and to try to right the ship of state--instead of positioning themselves for perpetual re-election.

AP's Ron Fournier To Karl Rove: "Keep Up The Fight"

AP is providing more and more content to newspapers across the country. It's cheaper than actually paying someone to report the news. AP is providing a product to fit the corporate-conglomerate-owned industry. Someone's got to pay for the mergers and downsizing, to keep the bottom line from looking too bad.

AP's Product is one-size-fits-all for the corporate papers. Have you read some of the bland pro administration slant drivel from them lately. When I come across an AP byline now, I just skip the article!

Oil, Coal, Gas Lobbies run the energy show. Just ask anyone in DC. Unless and until we the people hold our representatives feet to the fire, the lobbyist will continue to hold sway. They are the cheapest and most effective way to guarantee profitability to ANY (Energy, defense, drug, prison, tobacco, etc..) business willing to commit.
The automakers lobbied the Bush Administration effectively, delaying any move to improve fuel economy. SUV's were very profitable for many years. Look for a bailout soon for Chrysler.
The alternative is to let the usual suspects figure out a way to continue to be profitable, eventually being forced into less polluting sources, but still running the show.

Please note this term's Historic number of 'filibusters' in the Senate. It only takes 40 Republicans to stop any meaningful legislation that might actually counter the last 14 years of Republican control of the legislature.

So as the future minority party for the forseeable future, the Republicans can only hope to hang on to 40 seats in the next election. And 40 seats is not assured, "my friend".
