Starbucks Closure List: All 600 Stores, Searchable

Driving to Las Vegas used to be an adventure, one I remember since when I was a kid. There was always a chance that you might break down in the sweltering heat and be stuck in the middle of nowhere. The little gas station towns with the greasy spoon restaurants would celebrate the severity of the environment. Crossing the desert always harkened back to the Joads adventure, it was a connection to a time past.

Baker, California had a giant thermometer that would show how miserably hot it was. But things change. The last time I went to Baker all the restaurants were all chain fast food joints and even a Starbucks. I was mall land in the Mojave. So the Baker Starbucks made the list. The desert is taking back its identity. In a way I feel bad because I did go in and the local kids working there seemed to think they were characters on "Friends." posted 07/19/2008 at 20:13:29

I read the AP story a year ago online. The same AP story run in the local rightwing paper cut out any reference to the examining doctors saying it should be investigated as a possible murder. Why would an editor of a local newspaper think that the story should not be told? What red flagged it for the edit?

Altering photos seems small but remember during the war (before the war was altered so as not to exist)? Fox News was this administration's gold standard of the type of reporting they wanted to see. Painting schools handing out candy to children. Don Rumsfeld was so opposed to the coverage of Al Jazeera that he had them bombed. People died trying to report the truth.

Hamas offered a truce right after they won the election. Israel said they must recognize Israel and started their precision bombing campaign. It culminated when the Israeli Navy shelled the family on the beach in Gaza. Hamas had to react or seem as ineffectual as Fatah. Israel stole more land and built more settlements all the while claiming to be the victims.

Now they will call a truce, but with stipulations. The fine print will mean a truce without a truce and they will blame the Palestinians when it doesn't hold up. Then another round of land stealing and settlements all the while some Likudnik will claim it is the Israelis who are the victims and they only want peace.
