I am Amanda from Knoxville, Tn, I am not originally from here but I have lived here for about 16 years now. I am 35 years old and a single mother of two cool daughters ages 15 and 12. I was a direct sales rep for pagers (oh my god I am old) and then an executive assistant to the President of Mercedes Benz in Knoxville. Then I injured my back and had to undergo a double spinal fusion and now have titanium screws and pins in my back, but thankfully I am able to enjoy life now. During my recovery I decided that an outside sales job with the travel and in and out of a car all day would be torture on the back, plus I wasn't happy with my job and all the cold calling etc. so I decided to go back to college. I am now in my third year towards my bacherlor's degree in political science and will then follow that up with a master's in political science. The plan is to teach to high school or possible obtain my ph.d and be a professor but I am interested in so many things! I am minoring in history and cinema studies and I love everything about politcs! I have thought of a few book ideas and some other business ideas but like most people that I know I don't have the capital to follow through. But I am keeping a journal full of ideas and when I have the capital I will succeed. There are presently so many things about our current state of politics that irritate and depress me and it is enough to make anyone cynical. But I have hope that the system will improve, signs are already showing. I am late in the game to joining Huffington Post but I am here now and so curious about everyone else's opinions.
