Last year the Organization of International Journalists voted the United States 37th in the world for having the most honest and complete news coverage¦ BEHIND Germany, France and the U.K. although the U.K. itself has fallen drastically during Blair"s years.

That is pretty sad for a country who has long considered itself "The Beacon of Truth" in the world.

Many moons ago, I was a fledgling reporter for a radio station in a mid-sized U.S. city... eventually working my way up to the position of TV anchorman in one of the top 20 markets in the nation.

The entire time I worked the news desk, I prided myself in providing BOTH sides of a story, and making sure that the IMPORTANT stories took the lead over "fluff" like "which Hollywood star was picked up for DUI last night."

Year after year I have become more and more alarmed by the systematic destruction of real NEWS... because without REAL news, we are destined to collapse as a free nation.

The purpose of REAL news is to inform the public regarding what is going on in the world, so the public can make informed decisions regarding their government, economic and social structure... and the so-called "mainstream news" today is failing miserably on that score!

The ONLY solution to the problem is for people to organize, and then loudly boycott sponsors of these so-called "news entities".

As long as it is profitable for Fox News, Rush Limbaugh or Bill O'Reilly to disseminate their lies they will continue. If it no longer pays to FEED the propaganda machine, the machine will corrode and die under it's own weight.

Frankly I feel bad for Obama... I too have been forced to renounce a long-time friend who took a self-destructive turn, and it's hard to do to someone you have known and liked for a long time.

I'm sure the Reverend Wright Obama knew was a kind and generous man who worked diligently for the well-being of his community, much as Obama has done in the Chicago area. Unfortunately, Reverend Wright was blinded by the spotlight in his face and proceeded to feed his own ego rather than do what would have been best for his former followers.

John Stossel appears to want to be "fair and balanced", but FAR too often he believes the garbage the administration sells... like the unemployment figures for example... all lies and easily proved so by studying the EMPLOYED figures for the past 15 years.

I have seen several of Stossel's special reports where he has used the government's false figures to justify his side of the argument... a common problem with lazy news people these days.

It is really quite incredible how gullible the mainstream Press can be when criticized.

All it took for them to completely shift their allegiance to Clinton was to have the Clintons complain that "Hillary wasn't getting the attention Obama was getting"

Too often these days, the "News Media" is not "News", but partisan NOISE.

There was a time in my long broadcast career when I hard-working and serious newsman, later becoming a TV news anchor. In those days, we prided ourselves on our ability to remain objective and seek the answers the public wanted without taking one side or the other if at all possible

I watched in terror as a new crop of White House reporters placed their own emphasis on events and statements in the news, adding great drama and frequent misunderstanding to what was REALLY said... the worst of the bunch in those days were Tom Brokaw and Dan Rather. It worked for them, they soon were promoted way beyond their skill levels... and long-time REAL news people like Walter Cronkite were cast aside like so much rubbish.

These days, we no longer have the benefit of "The Fairness Doctrine", it too was cast aside because it kept certain news outlets like Fox News from slanting the news the way they wanted to.

The Bush Administration and America's inability to do anything about the Bush Administration has been the direct result of the rot and corruption of the "news meida".... the Pennsylvania Debate was just one more example.

How soon they forget...

I spent my first 38 years in "small town America" and remember how systematically the paper mills and the industrial plants closed down and moved to the South to escape the unions... eventually escaping to Mexico, India and Communist China... leaving tens of thousands out of work and desperate to support their families...

One of the first signs of trouble in small town America was the rise of survivalist groups and anti-governement groups like the Michigan Militia or the Posse Comitatus Group...

The TV evangelists and fundamentalist preachers found fertile ground to bleed the people of what little they had left, followed by the politicians who were happy to promise that "things would get better if we just let the rich folks pay fewer taxes"... naturally the rich folks would then invest their excess money and put everyone back to work!

Two or three decades later and it still hasn't gotten any better... and you can damn bet that there are a LOT of bitter and angry people in those small towns!

Believe me... I grew up in "small town America" and lived there until I was 38 years old.

Everything Obama said was ABSOLUTELY TRUE... We had LOTS of industry in Michigan, and then the paper companies died, the small manufacturers died, the GM plant was closed and we were all promised that tax cuts for the wealthy would "trickle down" in the form of new investment and new industry to replace that which left... it never did!

The result of too much poverty in a formerly affluent area was a rapid expansion of the Michigan Militia, huge expansion of the fundamentalist churches, and a great deal of anger with the federal government.
