Yes, 'Shock Doctrine' should be required reading, and yes, it works well with Chomsky ('Profit Over People,' for instance). I actually read 'Confessions of an Economic Hitman' after 'The Shock Doctrine,' which, despite not illustrating why it's so bad to be an economic hitman (with numbers, statistics - such as poverty increases), made for a good follow-up. posted 03/26/2008 at 19:09:03

Those Hidden Costs

I don't understand how anyone could (factually) disagree with Wright. All one has to do is pick up a couple books on the subject of American Foreign Policy, such as "The Shock Doctrine" by Klein, "Profit over People" by Chomsky, "Overthrow" by Kinzer, to name just a few, and one will realize that of course America brought on the terrorist attacks. It's hard for me to believe that so many people take the Lewinsky affair so seriously. Stepping back to gain some perspective on what's really important - war, lives, economy, privatizing public assets (here and abroad) - might possibly help. As for Obama's pastor, I'm also awestruck that there seem to be so few who acknowledge he's obviously correct - in that we brought on the attacks. All one has to do is pick up a book or two . . . I've just been reading about the money "borrowed" from S.S. starting with the Bush (Sr.) Ad. in 'The Plot Against Social Security' by Michael A. Hiltzik.
