There are different reasons for having more than one login.

Multiple logins are not in themselves a bad thing. Many who write a lot use more than one screen name. There is no intrinsic dishonesty in this since all logins translate to "anonymous."

For example, let's say that one day a writer feels great and uses something like "happydaze." On another occasion the same writer might be in a bad mood and use "hardtimes."

Unfortunately, internet cops (also called trolls) use multiple logins in harmful ways. They may perpetrate what I call troll pile-ons to attack a political opinion they don't like. Let's say, for example, the cop's mission is to support the wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and Iran. If he sees a comment urging an end to the warring, he may use several different logins to attack the anti-war poster and make the writer appear to be a hated minority.

Another example: Let's say the cop's job is to support male supremacy. If he sees a comment advocating women's rights, he uses one or more female-sounding logins, professes to be female, then attacks the commenter who seeks improved living conditions for girls and women. In this way, he works to create the impression that females are opposed to women's rights. The logic is simple: Females don't want better lives, so why allow them to have them?

The uses of this sort of subterfuge go on and on. A racist cop can pose as a person of color opposed to civil rights or a gay who is against gay rights or an immigrant opposed to immigration, etc.

If a cop/troll determines that a certain writer is problematic, i.e., consistently produces strong anti-war or feminist statements, for example, he may decide to single out that writer for a campaign of ridicule, insults and troll pile-ons.

The victim of such a campaign may use more than one login for the specific purpose of dodging some of the cop's personal attacks.
