The Mind and the Obama Magic

Garner trust? Give us a break. Simplistic phrase for the hardest thing to accomplish by consistency alone. You can trust the village idiot for example, but still vote for the wiliest man in town to beat out the next town in competition for investments. Bush probably fooled no-one as trustworthy in and of himself - he was trusted to fulfill his role as a puppet. And he didn't even do that right.
The only people who really know how the public thinks about politicians are seasoned politicians, all of whom have no real core values. They know the game isn't about who can be trusted, but who can best persuade voters to misplace it with them.

You can trust the blog author to be promoting his book - which from this blog I trust will be another rundown of an untested and largely untestable theory. posted 07/07/2008 at 14:27:51

Lawsuit Filed To Carry Weapons In Atlanta Airport

True believers are known for being thoughtful and respectful. They frequently allow the blindfolding of those about to be executed, for example. posted 07/01/2008 at 17:40:08

Ruslana Korshunova, Supermodel, Dies In Fall (PHOTOS)

The tragedy is not so much in loss per se, but in the loss of potential, and the rarity of such an asset.
Ugly is not a rarity, but on the other hand would not offset the tragic loss of an Eleanor Roosevelt, for example, whose brains, energy and effectiveness were and always will be rare. posted 06/29/2008 at 16:41:59

Brian Williams To Fill In On "Meet The Press" Sunday

All these networks seem addicted to overworking a known name instead of going for a quality broadcaster, even if only as a short term substitute. But won't they ever learn that once you lose quality, it's hard to get the audience back? And you do lose it when the anchor is overworked. Brian is up to the job, but not up to both jobs that he will now have. He needs to do his own followups, no matter who does his preparation for him. That's where the quality aspect comes into play. posted 06/19/2008 at 18:42:12

Making Michelle Who She Isn't -- Risky Obama Campaign Move

Mandibular prognathism is correctible. posted 06/19/2008 at 18:51:09
Mandibular prognathism is not restricted to race and you don't need blinders to observe it. It's normal, but not conducive to gorgeousness. posted 06/19/2008 at 17:34:20
My comments were directed to Republicans, but I see there are rose colored glassy eyed types on both sides. Being black and a woman are assets, not irritants. But she will irritate Republicans just by her manner, and being smarter than McCain's wife. Get used to it, all of you. And the woman is not gorgeous and you insult her by pretending to cover up her looks by lying about them. She is a plain woman, just like Eleanor Roosevelt was plain. Were you all too ignorant of history to get the connection?
The color of black is beautiful. Not necessarily everything it colors, however. You people are also patronizing her by pretending to ignore any imperfections. Shame on you. posted 06/18/2008 at 21:19:38
Gorgeous? Not hardly. But neither was Eleanor Roosevelt. People got used to that because Eleanor made the most of her best asset, her brain. Michelle needs to be heard more than she needs to be seen. posted 06/18/2008 at 15:10:40
Michelle is just naturally irritating. Get used to it. posted 06/18/2008 at 15:06:01

"Obama's Test" or Ours?

I might add that this seems one of those attempts to find a theory that fits a particular politician that you already have decided to back for a completely different set of reasons. It's not exactly helpful if the theory seems somewhat bogus and thus reflects on your judgement and the accuracy of your opinions in general - and in particular of any involving your choice of candidates.
I too like Obama, but because his judgment seems much less likely to settle for simpleminded solutions or for rationalizing gut reactions and the like. posted 03/25/2008 at 16:41:50
Future-past? Everything is about trying to predict and deal with the future based on what we think we have learned from the past. The differences between the parties are their abilities to understand what the past has to teach them, and to have the imagination to ask the right questions of history and open their minds to see and best choose from the range of possible solutions. If the past has shown us a book from science, and a book from mythology, for example, which book do we trust to point out both the problems we face as well as the possible solutions? Members of both parties may look at both books, but the democrats are more likely to know which one has the answers to what.
So it's just not as simple as past-future, change-don't change, etc. It may be more of a smart-dumb dichotomy, but again that's just too simple. Objective-subjective? Rational-emotional? Maybe all of the above that only the more intelligent can sort out - what's so new about that? posted 03/25/2008 at 13:46:57
