Karen Allen Goes From Knitting In The Berkshires To Indy 4

A gorgeous woman and very appealing actress. The answer to why she has to make a "comeback" has everything to do with the double standard that keeps overweight, unattractive male stars in the spotlight while women are generally banished for aging and not staying "hot." posted 05/17/2008 at 15:13:33

Senior Clinton Aide: "It's Going To Be Tough For Us... We Lost This Thing In February"

It's just speculation, but I'm confident in speculating that one major reason Clinton and co. went along with the earlier decision not to accept the MI and FL primaries was their overconfident assumption that they wouldn't need them--that they'd have the nomination clinched early and easy. So, maybe they're the ones who didn't think MI and FL would truly matter, because they didn't think Obama would matter.

Now that they're on the verge of not mattering, they want to change the rules when the game's almost over. But you can't blame them completely. I mean, we're in a country where people continue to believe Bush/Cheney lies. So it's not surprising that HRC and co. could believe that millions of people wouldn't give a shit about this blatant ploy to steal the nomination, or, even worse, to contaminate Obama's nomination by, let's say, portraying him as the Democrat's version of what Bush was in FL in 2000. posted 05/07/2008 at 11:19:35

Yes, it's fair game, and so what? McCain needs to be exposed as a white nationalist and mainstream Christianity needs to be exposed as white supremacist Christianity. Even if Obama loses doing so, he should lead the way in this effort.

King, in fact was influenced by marxism. It was one of the many unique features of his greatness that he could use a marxist-shaped critique of our economic injustice while also remaining a christian freedom fighter of the highest order.

Clinton: Obama Blaming Voters For His Own Failures

Obama was wrong to generalize as he did and the fact that he did it in San Francisco, while irrelevant to me, may be politically damaging. The Clintons are more than willing to act like Republicans if that will help them win. Just look at Bill Clinton's Presidency.

However, generalizations aside, what Obama said is true. Unlike what HRC said about Bosnia, and unlike what she's saying about her attitude toward religion and guns. Obama made a mistake, but Clinton is deliberately and disingenuously posturing as something she's not, a "family values" person, in a manner that goes far beyond her usual mercenary opportunism. Ventura doesn't particularly like Obama? That's another endorsement for our next President, so far as I can see.

He was a shitty governor and everyone knows it. It's all nothing but big talk from Jesse. I have some respect for Schwarzenegger even though I wouldn't vote for him. At least he tries to do something good with the system we have, which is still the world's best despite its many flaws.

I guess Matalin has a lot less to do since the sure-fire GOP nominee Fraud Thompson, whom she was advising, ate a big shit sandwich and went nowhere fast.

Mr Carville will soon be dealing with a similar loss by his chosen candidate, who resembles Fraud in her air of entitlement. posted 03/27/2008 at 15:41:46

22-Year-Old Efraim Diveroli, Awarded $300 Million Defense Contract To Arm Afghan Forces, Supplied Them With Aging, Defective Arms

Let's send him over there. I'm not saying put him on the front lines or anything, but judging from the look on his face and what he did with the contract, paying a few dues wouldn't hurt him. posted 03/27/2008 at 18:33:06

Study: Big Bellies Can Lead To Dementia

News flash: being overweight is a serious health risk. Americans are too fat.

Thanks for the information!

The HuffPost sure does like to run stories like this. That's fine, but I rarely see anything about how the thinness obsession causes plenty of physical and social problems.

Again, its tendency to reinforce normative appearance standards is one of the unappealing aspects of this otherwise fine and progressive website. posted 03/27/2008 at 16:06:48

Lou Dobbs Mocked In Commercial For Hispanic Film "Under The Same Moon"

Dobbs is a demagogic, smug swine, and the more abuse and humiliation he gets in public, the better for America and the rest of the world. This movie's on my must-see list! posted 03/27/2008 at 13:28:09
I don't know, but I know what's saddest of all--people like you, who scapegoat entire groups of people and blame them for things that have far more complex reasons than you cite.

Please--you can't really be as stupid as you sound, can you? posted 03/27/2008 at 13:26:52

Bill Clinton To Obama Campaign: "Let's Just Saddle Up And Have An Argument"

That statement is very unfair to the legacy of Bonnie And Clyde. posted 03/26/2008 at 17:35:47
My family's not big on quitting, says the former President.

That's for sure, even when it's bad for the party and the country.

I'm a lifelong Democrat who has never been too crazy about the Clintons and maybe now some of my fellow Democrats are understanding why.

Bill "NAFTA-Welfare Repeal-Defense of Marriage Act" Clinton was the best Republican president we Democrats have ever had.

His popularity is largely attributable to the fact that his enemies (Starr, Gingrich, et al.) were such total assholes.

Now that the Clintons are facing a much different type of opponent, one whom they underestimated and are now trying to destroy, maybe people will see what they're really all about--themselves and their power. posted 03/26/2008 at 17:35:08

Bromance Comes Out Of The Closet

The "bromance" relationship appears to be the province of men who enjoy more than their share of white heterosexual privilege, i.e. Harrelson and Wilson. Men who don't benefit from that are assumed to be gay, I guess.

In other words, this story and the magazine it comes from is just a bunch of silly shit. posted 03/27/2008 at 17:49:52

Lewinsky Questioner: I Was Surprised By Chelsea's Response

Once upon a time a famous Democrat said, "If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen."

I think it's great that CC is campaigning for her mother, even though I'm for Obama. But she needs to take the bad with the good. Can't understand why she won't deign to be interviewed. posted 03/26/2008 at 13:44:24

Mike Gravel To Seek Libertarian Nomination For President

If Clinton steals the nomination from Obama, Gravel would be a fine alternative. He may be a little discombobulated, but he's a true left-wing progressive. I liked plenty of what he said in the debates. posted 03/26/2008 at 14:00:38

Jared Leto And Lindsay Lohan's Film On Lennon's Assassin Gets One Star

Forget the weight gain. Did the guy take sorely needed acting lessons?

Bringing up DeNiro in the same breath as this clown is almost as bad as Leto/Lohan being associated with the John Lennon story. posted 03/26/2008 at 17:46:05
To have these two associated in any way, shape, or form with the legacy of John Lennon, artist, is just a crying fucking shame. posted 03/26/2008 at 13:54:23

Whatever Happened To John Hughes?

"An atrocity"--yes, that is a label tailor-made for any film shat out by John Hughes, but particularly Ferris Bueller and Home Alone.

Misanthropic, smug, and poisonous to the mind and soul. That's the canon of John Hughes. posted 03/25/2008 at 16:36:36

Do As I Say, Not As I Do: Bill Richardson Explains Why The Other Superdelegates Should Vote With Their States

Tough shit if Richardson changed his mind and too goddamned bad if Obama DID promise him something. I hope BR is Obama's running mate!

Brace yourself--the Clintons are not entitled to Richardson's support because he was in their cabinet, nor are they entitled to the nomination!

If HRC was truly a skillful leader and politician she would've figured out a way to beat Obama and she never would've underestimated him in the first place.

People are making a big deal out of BR's spin? He's a paragon of transparency compared to the Clintons... posted 03/24/2008 at 14:08:27

Fred Thompson Plots Hollywood Return

This is truly a story to savor. About a year ago the media was full of reports about how the Republican nomination would belong to Fraud once he deigned to campaign alongside mere mortals.

This campaign has had few pleasures, but watching Fraud go absolutely nowhere, and fast, was a sheer delight. posted 03/25/2008 at 16:44:08

Mayhem At Fox News: Anchor Walks Off Set, Wallace Rails Network For "Obama-Bashing"

My goodness, Chris W. has some integrity! I wonder how much longer Fox will keep him on the payroll?

It's so obvious to anyone with a brain that the "typical white person" comment was part of Obama's effort to DEFEND white people and acknowledge that we've had racial anxieties socialized into our character. He's saying that the typical white person ISN'T racist, but instead struggles with the impact of race in our country, sometimes in ways that make us seem prejudiced when we really aren't.

Also, what is going on with all this hypothetical shit about "what if" Hillary or McCain would have said "typical black person," etc.? These boneheads accuse Obama of not dealing with the facts of what Wright said, but they refuse to deal with what Obama really said and instead offer speculation... posted 03/21/2008 at 14:31:33

McCain Fundraising DROPS In February Despite Being Nominee

Hardly surprising. Republicans have their nominee by default because the other "contenders" were such laughable failures that the only man left standing was a guy who was on the ropes just a few months ago.

There is a substantial record of conservative contempt for McCain and if he wins the Presidency it will also be by default. That's one reason former McCain enemies like Limbaugh are trying to paint Obama as a trojan horse whose insides are crawling with bloodthirsty black nationalists trying to get out.

They want the country to stick with good old white nationalism. But it ain't gonna happen this time. As Bill Richardson said, we have a once in a lifetime leader and we'll join forces for this opportunity. posted 03/21/2008 at 14:08:26

Obama Endorsed By Bill Richardson

Make no mistake about it. This is a major coup for Obama. A lesser candidate would have been driven from the race after what has happened to him over the past three weeks. But as Richardson says, this is a once in a lifetime leader and the endorsement ends a bad week on a very positive note.

And even though Obama took a lot of shit this week, the spotlight remained on him and his abilities to rise above it. He got tested and passed the test. Hillary is increasingly irrelevant. Obama lost a few supporters because of the character assassination and the racism aimed at him, but I'll bet he picked up more than a few along the way. Things are looking good.

And the Republicans are so pathetic and pessimistic about their chances that they have to seize on this pastor controversy and look to Rush Limbaugh to encourage Republicans to vote for Hillary. They know they don't have any way to win except by hoping Obama collapses. Ain't gonna happen, shitheads. posted 03/21/2008 at 22:55:41

Richardson looks good with the beard and looks even better alongside Obama. If I had my way, this would be our duo for the general election campaign. What better time for HRC to bow out gracefully, after she's been abandoned by Bill's former energy secretary? posted 03/21/2008 at 14:13:43
