I am the mother to 2 children on the autism spectrum. I work to spread awareness about autism; most importantly I advocate for legislation that mandates insurance coverage for autism. Coverage that should already be in place, state by state. Autism is the fastest growing developmental disorder yet it is SO underfunded--1 in 150 children are diagnosed with autism. It doesn't discriminate based on race or even gender. In Massachusetts, the incidence is 1 in 122!!!! I spend a great deal of my time advocating for my daughter with autism and my son who has Asperger's Syndrome. On the side (ha ha!), I work in a local high school (full time)as a special education classroom aide, working with several students with autism. My real love is art----I am a potter and an art teacher----sometimes---when autism isn't on the front burner!!!
