Good article....but no one is listening. The CPI Farce has been around for years but there is no organized outrage from the country. As you point out, it takes us back to a time where you cannot trust anything the government tells us. Whether it is weapons of mass destruction, imminent threat or axis of evil, or the CPI, unemployment rate and inflation rates, we have lost faith in our government to provide us with information. The current administration's penchant for secrecy and continued defiance of the rule of law.... and congress' inability to hold them accountable I bellieve have greatly contributed to the overall instablitiy of our financial markets currently...... and has contributed to the decline of our democracy as a whole. When the President comes out and addresses the nation and says "everything is fine" while the Fed Chairman is testifying that we have some real issues to contend with....what does that say to the rest of the world? This country is in for some tough times and we better elect a new administration that is up for the job.

The bigger issue than the predictable declination by Clear Channel to run your ad... is the potential ramifications of a media conglomerate, enabled by lessening restrictions of common ownership of media outlets, to control what is placed on public airwaves. Imagine if they owned ALL of the media outlets in major metropolitan areas......they effectively can "control" the message. It is my contention that the rise, success and sustination of the Rush Limbaugh phenomonon is partially related to the increased capability of one conglomerate to control multiple markets and dictate WHAT content is on the air for many hours of the day. We need to be very careful when crafting regulations for these companies.

It was inevitable....that the surge and/or continued US military presence along with its BILLIONS of $$s dumped into this desert rat hole would eventually lead to some fragile cease fire environment. However, most of the credit for the downturn in violence has been attributed to essentially bribing the Sunni factions and arming them to keep the peace and balance agains the Shia. This is a standard proceedure used by this country in the past when battling other insurgents and it usually results in those same folks and armaments eventually turning them back on us. Where the Democrats have blown it is by not holding the current administration accountable for the false premise of war. Where are the hearings? Where is the investigation? Vitrually all experts agree that intelligence was manipulated, and agree that a managed campaign of lies and dis-information was created to further the neo-con stratagy under the crisis flag of 9/11. Why have we not impeached the President and put up for trial all of the folks in the administration complicit in this act of treason? Why are we toodling along to the next election as if we are throwing up our hands and shrugging "oh well, we will just hope the next President is better"?? The founding fathers of this country, along with the countless folks whom have served and died for their county in all armed conflicts are trivialized because of the inaction by the current, gutless, incompetent Congress.

Unfortunately, sad to say, I am not sure that much has changed since 1869. Today, there is still rampant discrimination. It is just more subtle and discreet, albeit just as profound and tragic. A milestone has been reached in this country with the first presidential nominee that is an African-American. But I regret that the march has begun behind the scenes to tear him down..... This country still has deep seeded roots in discrimination and I do not believe we are ready to elect an African American named Barack Obama. The right wing of the Republican party is gleefully excited that they are not running against Hillary, because she might actually have had a chance to win. Wait for all of the stops to be pulled... as the nut jobs in charge for the last 8 years begin a smear campaign like no one has ever seen..... in their desperate attempts to hold on to power.

With all due respect, Senator Hagel, what you have summarized is now all well known. Now explain why you and your colleagues have not hunted down every one of these buffoons that got us in this mess by lying to the American people and violating every moral and ethical mandate (not to mention all of the laws). It is like everyone has just accepted the illegality and incompetence, and are waiting for the next guy to take a shot. Almost like the errant child who has spilled grape juice on the carpet, we are waiting for the little boy to leave the room. These folks should be prosecuted to fullest extent of the law. They should not be writing books, appearing on Faux news or flying around the middle east with a full security detail on a travel junket in their C-17 at taxpayers expense. Stop selling books and going on news shows and telling us what we already know and kick y our colleagues in the ass and take these guys down.
