Clinton: I "Raised A Big Yellow Caution Flag" On Nafta

TheReal,
Well, ummmm, there are allegations; there are "misspeaks" and there are lies. It does seem that many voters now are able to distinguish between lies and truth. Hillary's running from sniper fire springs to mind; perhaps her NAFTA memories are also suspect. That just may be the issue! posted 04/02/2008 at 09:16:03

Elizabeth Edwards Returns McCain's Fire, Demands 'Straight Talk'

Jason, thank you for bringing Elizabeth Edwards' analysis to our attention. Ms Edwards' remarks, in keeping with her normal way of speaking, are clear and intelligent. She was a brilliant supporter of her spouse during his campaign.

It's not easy to phrase this comment sensitively -- but it's important to say it: Elizabeth Edwards is the very model of an educated, competent, articulate woman; she is, in fact, the kind of woman who would be an outstanding Democratic nominee for the presidency of the United States.

Bill Clinton Fires Back At Heckler: "You Want To Give The Speech?"

Blue, Wrong.
The personal lives of elected officials are very much the business of the public. We pay their salaries. We are in effect their bosses. It's when we decline to administrate what we pay for that we get into dictatorships and corrupt pols.

If you don't think that personal lives of men and women who are at the public trough are not your responsibility, perhaps you should might prefer to simply enjoy movies about politics and continue your fantasy.

And yes, there is shame with "we people" -- we are sick of lies, of corruption, of manipulation of the public trust. And the Clintons are prime examples of why we are shamed; their obsession and personal greed, their pursuit of power, their utter arrogance is cause for shame. posted 04/01/2008 at 18:50:58
AC, no one knows much about any pol. BUT, during the Arkansas days, there were bimbo watches and there were numerous episodes with the gov and his liaisons. Check it out. And no one wants a prez who engages in risky behavior, esp with a subordinate/intern. That's dumb. Those little events cost the US taxpayers a lot of revenue; they occupied a lot of time that could have been spent in more productive ways. Again, who cares about civilian consenting adults in private? No one; but the serial patterns of a man who disrespects his wife and daughter to indulge his whims might not be a man we want as 'first spouse.' Think about it some more. The history is there. You are right; and besides the dead giveaway, the Clinton "battles" have been consequences that result from their poor choices.

It's not like the world took up arms against Bill for being falsely accused of bank robbery or car theft. Bill's accusers (among them their new best bud Scaife) took up arms because they were seeing Bill as a moral misfit, with Hillary's tolerance.

Rightly or wrongly, the Democratic Party went to bat for this ungrateful twosome. Their reputation as "fighters" was largely earned because of charges from folks like Paula Jones, Gennifer Flowers and Monica Lewinsky; and the many 'bimbo sightings' that are associated with the former president. These battles were in reality just struggles to get PR out to combat accusations from Bill's hook-ups.

The Clinton Campaign Finds New Allies: Richard Mellon Scaife And Fox News

Plowboy, maybe Billary will sink in the mire of their own making.

To have supported this couple, back in the really nasty days when every other person was moaning about their lack of morality, and see them today, revealed in all their turn-coat obsession is disgusting. Times were economically better then than now, so we could always play the prosperity card in their defense.

Today we have the spectacle of the former president personally cozying up to Scaife last year -- obviously preparing for this campaign -- after Scaife and his Arkansas Project contributed to the Clintons' defamation. It is very hard to understand how Billary could suck it up and seek Scaife's favor.

So, Bill and Hillary's realtime fawning activity with Scaife, their once mortal enemy, may bring voters to a better understanding of the Clintons' obsession. However, blind loyalty isn't always amenable to reason and reality; ask Taylor. posted 04/01/2008 at 11:39:13

Lou Dobbs Almost Calls Condi A "Cotton Picker"

SyracuseHorn, Not.

I beg to differ about the connotation of the phrase. It's similar to the kind of language corruption and code words the Bushies use when their speech veers off into the fundamentalist and evangelical terminology. They know what they mean, and they know who laps it up. Men and women of Dobb's age understand exactly what they are saying; that's what they get paid to do and they do it; that is, keep these issues on the front burner by insults and innuendo.

Again, if you had seen pictures, read books, looked at the history of African slaves and 20th Century black people laboring in cotton fields you'd perhaps revise your understanding. Like the Confederate flag, like the sexist term "she asked for it" there are plenty of insults to go around. They need to cease. posted 04/01/2008 at 12:03:19
mhoiles,
Please allow one more instructional comment before we let you stew in the juice of your own ignorance.

Africans were sold, brought to this country in chains, purchased and forced to work for white people -- and yes, they picked cotton.

That is such a significant point that it begs the question for you to suggest "lobbying for Mexicans."

It is of course a stupid tactic to try to change the subject/thread of this post and its comments. It doesn't always work. People with common sense understand the context of slavery and racism in our history. posted 04/01/2008 at 11:51:03
dadw5boys,
Cotton Picker = a child, woman or man, old or young, who goes into a cotton field before sunrise, who stays until sundown, and picks cotton out of sharp bolls until a sack is filled. The heat is devastating and the work is backbreaking.

If you don't know what this kind of labor involves, perhaps you should just run out to the nearest truck farm and pick tomatoes or peppers all day, in the heat of the summer, and drag your 5 boys with you. Your conscience might be elevated, although your muscles would scream. Cotton picking, before automation, was a bit more difficult than flipping burgers, especially when you were forced to do it by white people who paid you pennies for your 10 hours in the field. posted 04/01/2008 at 10:08:55

clr2 -- if you must quote, get it right. Obama referred to his grandmother. Like many white people born around 1900 - 1920 or so, when racism was institutionalized and blatant, many "typical white people" did in fact cross the street to avoid black people.

And, black people never came to a white person's front door, they came to the back door. They rode in the back of the bus. They went to 'separate-but-equal schools.' Black people who went to primarily white churches, IF they were allowed in the church, sat in a balcony. Those are facts.

White people "typically" avoided interaction or thinking about WHY those divisions were in LEGALLY in place; and there were laws to insure they were obeyed. So, yes, typical white people behaved in a certain and accepted way in the first third of the 20th Century. You could read about it... posted 04/01/2008 at 09:51:43
mhoiles, it's pretty clear that you are not interested in consensus-building.

Maybe a reason that you "get the 'b' word thrown' at you is that you personally haven't made an attempt to clean up your own mouth.

Think about what you're saying; and then check out the statistics of WHO picked cotton, why they worked the cotton fields, and also check out what nasty and backbreaking work it was -- for little children and women as well as men. And yeah, white people picked, too; but that work was primarily done by black people old and young. Very similar to migrant worker conditions today.

And, just because it's a slang term, used 'widely' doesn't make it any more acceptable than the Confederate flag over state houses. Those days are gone, and just as one would no more say "Have a seat, BOY" to a black man, it might be helpful to self-censor as Dobbs did, before applying an expletive to anyone.

It's not about condemning people for their thoughts; it's about making an attempt to have language that isn't damning or insulting to other people. posted 04/01/2008 at 09:22:23

And, if you are old enough to remember the Impeachment years then you can perhaps understand more reasons not to vote for a third term for Bill Clinton. It is beyond all logic to blame Barack Obama for the Clintons' baggage and their personal mismanagement of her campaign. posted 03/29/2008 at 20:05:51
drmavis -- you make so many valid points that so many of us are in agreement with about Hillary's campaign. Suffice it to say, were it another woman, one who did not enlist her husband's threatening presence and one who did not engage in padded resumes, we'd have a chance to win. Unfortunately, wrong woman at the wrong time. And, just in case people want to get nasty, if Hillary were a man and HE'D behaved like she has, he'd be in the same shape -- virtually disgraced. Hillary has gotten kid glove treatment for many months; those days are over. posted 03/29/2008 at 19:57:36

Reid To Worried Dems: "This Will Be Over Long Before The Convention"

kellygrrrl --
You're onto something; and it doesn't sound all that appealing. It's pathetic that rules, regs, agreements seemingly are set aside while tooth and claw rip the party and its candidates to pieces. If there is no guidance and no cessation to this battle, not only will the candidates despise each other and their backers, those of us left standing out in the hinterlands will be totally alone come November.

There are too many rich, rightwing GOPers and folks like Scaife, Amandson of CA and others who will prop up McCain with billions of dollars and millions of votes. That Rove machine is still very much in operation and it won't be denied unless we have huge numbers. So timing is everything, and Hillary's wish for 3 more months is a death wish for the party and the country. posted 03/29/2008 at 12:21:12

Bush Readies Mortgage Aid Plan

Ron, and W's verbal images of mortgagees being 'under water' brings to mind another component of that admin's history...waterboarding. He should stop with the imagery and do some actual work for citizens. Won't happen. posted 03/29/2008 at 12:07:04

Hillary And Bill: We Aren't Going Anywhere

oscarp, It's not so much hate as it is...well, let's say: Disgust with attempted intimidation of party leaders; dismay at cheap campaign strategy like 'as far as I know;' and the ever-recurring lies. You know, like "Running with heads down in sniper fire" and "Negotiating the N. Ireland peace accord."
Things like that; not just hate or jealousy or cowardly, ungrateful , etc., male egos. There are many women who do not behave like Hillary Clinton, nor would they, even in a race of a lifetime. She and Bill have no sense of propriety and no sense of community. It's Billary, 24/7, all about them, all the time. posted 03/29/2008 at 11:16:35
Mon,
Glad you're glad; keep throwing that $$$ down the kitchen sink drain. The garbage disposal is all that remains of Billary's "strategy."

Can you say "Bosnia sniper fire is a lie" ? And, "I made the N. Ireland peace accord possible" is another lie, No one wants more liars in the White House. posted 03/29/2008 at 11:07:24

Ralph Nader Tells Clinton "Don't Listen" To People Telling You To Drop Out

degjack, "Truth" told by persons who game the system to benefit THEMSELVES is not truth. It's propaganda, or lies, if you read carefully and if you look at the record(s). Advice from Nader about campaigns is like advice from Rove or Limbaugh; works for the rightwingers but not the rest of the world. posted 03/29/2008 at 12:02:47

Chelsea: Mom Will Be "Better President" Than Dad

Anywho, We do deserve better than this family in the WH. This cycle of Bush/Clinton/Bush is destroying our party and our country. There's been good and bad and surplus and deficit -- but the cycle should end here. Can't you imagine Jeb revving up his engine? Then comes Chelsea in four?

And, to put Chelsea on center stage to shill for Billary, but muzzle reporters who have serious questions, that is asking for yet more entitlements for the Clintons, whose entitlements and endowments are endless.

The Clintons have a history. They will be asked questions about that history. The record doesn't go away for an Impeached president; the lies don't go away from his spouse (think Bosnia and sniper fire). They are all vulnerable and will be scrutinized. posted 03/29/2008 at 10:26:39

Senator Leahy To Clinton: Drop Out

ACA -- the thief is not Senator Leahy; you don't see this senator lying about a trip to Bosnia, running through sniper fire. And you don't see Senator Leahy lying about negotiating peace in N. Ireland. And, "as far as we know" Senator Leahy has the good of the Democratic Party at heart when he speaks for those who care about the party and the general election. posted 03/28/2008 at 22:47:52
Kundera,
You may see low Congressional ratings. You may not be happy with Senator Leahy's words. But you won't see this Senator lying about sniper fire in Bosnia and making peace agreements in Ireland. This man has the high regard of his colleagues and his constituents; and that kind of regard will not accrue to Hillary now or ever. The lies, the manipulations and the behavior of the former president and his wife have all but destroyed any credibility Hillary has or will have. posted 03/28/2008 at 17:37:08
Mikey, With all due respect, Senator Leahy enjoys great regard in Congress. It is past time for a leader of his caliber to speak up about the Democratic race for the nomination.

The Clinton campaign has been in a shambles; Senator Clinton's most recent lies about Bosnia and Ireland have made her, and our party, look conniving and stupid. The former president's behavior has both undermined Hillary's candidacy and his legacy.

Regardless of how much people want her to succeed, Hillary is her own worst enemy, with Bill a close second. Hillary does indeed need to get out of the race; the sooner the better for the party and herself. posted 03/28/2008 at 17:28:10

For those who don't get it -- how many kinds of sniper-fire-on-the-tarmac lies can we ignore? These lies and the public spectacle of an obsessive candidate and her husband are killing our chance to win in November.

Obama-Bloomberg Ticket? MSNBC Points Out Potential

Webb has actively worked on legislation for a new 'GI Bill' which of course the prez and gop are determined to stop. Webb most assuredly has been against the invasion and occupation of Iraq since the neocons began to beat the drum. His son is in Iraq.

He also (and this is not as silly as it seems) kept the US Senate 'in session' so that Bush could not make any recess appts over the holiday break, by going in each day and convening the session.

Webb is tough; he is not a schmoozer and he won after a good race in a hard state; God knows he and Mark Warner will be two of the best in the Senate, if Mark Warner wins in Nov and he should.

Check out Webb's site. posted 03/27/2008 at 16:37:47
erikh -- plus which Webb is not a shy guy; his snub of potus was classic, "It's between me and my boy" when the smirker/decider tried to make small talk about Webb's military son and his tour of duty.

Again, gotta keep Webb in VA to turn that state around for Democrats. He's a great senator. posted 03/27/2008 at 13:00:44
Gotta keep those guys (Webb, Warner) in VA and turn the state blue; almost there since VA got rid of Sen George Macaca Allen...VA Gov Timothy Kaine is sharp; he was one of the first to endorse Obama. See him at a cabinet level pos'n.

Don't forget fmr Congressman Ford; smart guy. Again, we must needs win the thing. posted 03/27/2008 at 12:58:13
