Excerpts from the Only-Slightly-Authorized Guidebook to my Political Persona: Clause #1: Calling me a progressive, liberal (in the social progressive sense; not that other market-related sense), or even socialist or - heck - marxist will not offend me, or deter me from supporting any particular politician, political party, or political ideal. "Socialist" thinking gave western culture several of its most enduring and beneficial social constructs (universal health care, social security, emergency services that work for the public - not private enterprise - etcetera). Clause #2: Dismissing my opinion on anything in American politics just because I'm Canadian by birth and Canadian/British by citizenship is extremely narrow-minded and potentially xenophobic. I have American relatives, just like a lot of people do, which I think entitles me to explore the connection. Furthermore, I believe that the U.S. of A. can not live in a vacuum. It is not possible to assume one can screw around in the rest of the world without being held responsible to act as part of it. Both of my 'home' nations are certainly constantly affected. Clause #3: Because I am deeply invested as a student and employee of the field of Health Informatics, I reserve the right to take great offense to anyone who takes any of my musings about the state of health care in *any* country out of context (or, worse, as personal insult). Clause #4 : I respect, admire, and appreciate women in politics a great deal. Branding me a misogynist solely because I couldn't support or approve of the behaviour of Hillary Clinton during her candidacy for POTUS (read Rule #1 to understand my true reasons) is going to be ignored. Garuanteed. Some evidence of support of women politicians, when they fit my political ideology: ---------------------------------------------- 2006, 39th Federal General Election: vote for Denise Savoie, Federal New Democratic Party Member of Parliament candidate for the Victoria BC federal riding. 2005, 38th British Columbia General Election: vote for Carol James, BC NDP Member of the Legislative Assembly for the Victoria-Beacon Hill provincial riding. I don't get hung up on gender. Why should you?
