Open Letter to Two Undeclared College Superdelegates

Sorry, I meant, "They don't have to do what we say, but we have a responsibility to make sure our voices are heard." posted 05/11/2008 at 21:10:03
Sure they do. It's their job to listen to the voices of their constituents. They don't have to listen to us, but we have a responsibility to make sure our voices are heard.

Great letter, Kal. posted 05/11/2008 at 21:08:59

Hillary Rodham Clinton: CEO

But her campaign has been a total wreck. Constant money problems, poor planning, incompetent staffers kept around out of loyalty. She'd be a wreck as a CEO. Determined? Yes. Effective? Absolutely not. posted 05/11/2008 at 23:24:14

Obama's Vice President: Who Will It Be? (POLL)

It won't be too bad - Tim Kaine could replace him.

Tim Kaine would make a great VP choice too, by the way. posted 05/09/2008 at 17:54:35

Obama Victorious, Clinton On The Ropes

Okay, once again, CLINTON DID NOT WIN TEXAS. The primary has two parts - she won the vote, Obama won the caucus, and Obama won the overall state delegate count 99-94. This is not a victory at all, let alone a "solid" one, as you suggest. posted 05/07/2008 at 10:46:41

Confusion Surrounding Robo-Calls in North Carolina

Until someone explains to me who Lamont Williams is, this "explanation" means nothing. Is he real? If so, produce him. Is he a fictitious persona created specifically for this call? If so, explain why, if the goal of these robo-calls was to register unmarried women to vote regardless of race, you chose the name "Lamont" of all possible names. It is so incredibly obvious that this is an attempt to disenfranchise black voters, and that the name "Lamont" was used to instantly establish a racial identity for the caller. Positively Rovian. Nice job, Hillary. posted 04/30/2008 at 15:39:52

Miley Cyrus Bare In Vanity Fair: Tells Fans She's "Embarrassed"

What's going on with her upper lip? Kind of looks like she has a kool-aid mustache, which makes the whole thing even more creepy. posted 04/27/2008 at 16:09:46

AmericaBlog: Hillary, Unlike Obama, Only Talks About Gays To Gay Press

I mean, before Hillary's friends at the PGN complained about it. posted 04/23/2008 at 17:44:13
Okay, I know this is kind of old news but I'm continually frustrated to see this misreported. Obama did the interview with the Advocate BEFORE Hillary's friends at the Philly Gay News. The interview came out (ha!) after the PGN complained but he didn't book the Advocate interview in response. He'd already done the interview. Sigh. posted 04/23/2008 at 17:43:40

Barack Obama On The Daily Show: Watch Video

I went to college in Galesburg and was there when the Maytag plant closed. The Maytag plant was on its way out long before Obama even became Illinois's senator. I'm not sure exactly what he could have done as a freshman senator that would have made Maytag reverse its long-made decision to move that plant to Reynosa, Mexico. Totally bogus. posted 04/22/2008 at 02:23:05

"That Boy's Finger Does Not Need to Be on the Button"

Minor point: shouldn't "Council of Concerned Citizens" be abbreviated as C of CC, not CC of C? Excellent article, Palermo, as always. posted 04/16/2008 at 11:19:42

Obama Puts Time, Ad Money Into Indiana

oh my god, IT IS NOT A TIE. there does not need to be a tiebreaker when obama's got an insurmountable lead in delegates. period. i see what he meant - clinton takes PA, i take NC, indiana's the tiebreaker of those three - but still, unfortunate phrasing, and it perpetuates the false notion that "it's anyone's game." it isn't. obama has won. posted 04/12/2008 at 23:35:10

Obama: Repeal of "Don't Ask" Possible

SERIOUSLY: Change this misleading headline. He conducted the interview with the Advocate BEFORE the Philly Gay News criticized him. posted 04/12/2008 at 22:33:09

Jon Stewart Awards Obama "Dick Move of the Week"

This is bad timing on Jon's part. His show has not been great since returning from the strike, and he really needs to make himself indispensable to his audience, the way he was before we had to navigate most of the early primary season without him. Hating on Obama, who is probably the candidate of choice for 80% of his audience if not more, is not all that smart. posted 04/10/2008 at 12:02:32

Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey Endorses Barack Obama

Okay, this is an attack that I take personally. Donors have to list their employer when donating, and so a person who works at a Chevron station who donates to Obama is being lumped in with these "oil and gas industry" donations. It's so incredibly frustrating. There is a distinction between individual donations and corporate donations - Hillary knows it and she's being intentionally obtuse. It's shameful.

I work for a major health insurance company and I donate to Obama. Does that mean Obama's taking money from "Big Insurance?" Of COURSE not. posted 03/29/2008 at 18:14:14

Should Obama Drop Out of the Race?

Hillary leads in electoral votes? Seriously, put down the Clinton Campaign Memo you're holding. I'm getting dizzy from all the goalpost-moving.

The rules are, the one with the most delegates wins. That's why there are delegates. It's not about electoral votes. Suddenly saying that electoral votes matter is like if the Patriots said, "Well, if you only count touchdowns, WE'RE the ones who won the Super Bowl." Ugh. posted 03/30/2008 at 22:49:35

Clinton Camp: Obama Falsely Claims He Doesn't Take Oil Money

Hmm. I work for a health insurance company, and I donate often to Obama. Does that mean he takes money from "the health insurance industry?" Come on. I'm an individual who happens to work for a major health insurance company. I also think that we should have single-payer universal health care, and that the company I work for shouldn't exist. But for the time being, I am doing good, important work that helps people, and I am giving my hard-earned money to Obama. If Hillary wants to use my donations to allege that Obama is somehow taking money from health insurance companies, well, that just breaks my heart. But it won't be the first time her dirty tactics have broken my heart and it certainly won't be the last. posted 03/28/2008 at 19:10:35

Parker Posey's Sitcom Canceled After Just Two Airings

Oh dear jesus, this show actually existed. I saw a preview a few months ago but hadn't heard anything since and had since convinced myself that either I imagined it or it was just a really good practical joke. Seriously, you get these two fantastic, gorgeous actresses together and the best you can come up with is a uterus-for-hire gag? Bleck. posted 03/25/2008 at 18:43:23

The Tide Is Turning

From Obama's South Carolina Victory Speech:

" There are those who will continue to tell us that we can't do this, that we can't have what we're looking for, that we can't have what we want, that we're peddling false hopes. But here is what I know. I know that when people say we can't overcome all the big money and influence in Washington, I think of that elderly woman who sent me a contribution the other day, an envelope that had a money order for $3.01 along with a verse of scripture tucked inside the envelope. So don't tell us change isn't possible. That woman knows change is possible.

When I hear the cynical talk that blacks and whites and Latinos can't join together and work together, I'm reminded of the Latino brothers and sisters I organized with and stood with and fought with side by side for jobs and justice on the streets of Chicago. So don't tell us change can't happen.

When I hear that we'll never overcome the racial divide in our politics, I think about that Republican woman who used to work for Strom Thurmond, who is now devoted to educating inner city-children and who went out into the streets of South Carolina and knocked on doors for this campaign. Don't tell me we can't change." posted 03/30/2008 at 12:42:32
