Chris Matthews Eviscerates Right-Wing Host Kevin James Over Obama "Appeasement" Claims

I am not a big fan of Chris Mathews, but I must admit, this was brilliant. The radio talk show bozo was a complete no show. When Neville Chamberlain came back from Munich on September 30, 1938, he was met in Great Britain by a cheering crowd. The betrayal of the Munich pact in 1939 brought about World War Two.
Chamberlain is an easy target for his policy of appeasement, but it should be remembered that England, after World War One, saw nearly a generation of men cut down. So most in that country weren't exactly in the mood to go to war. Tragic events, such as creating conditions that helped a Nazi Germany develop, began as far back as 1919. But since so many of the right wing blowhards live in the United States of Amnesia, the befuddled prime minister becomes a perfect symbolic scapegoat, for whatever talking point their uneducated agenda cares to make. posted 05/16/2008 at 03:05:21

Tennessee GOP Attacks Michelle Obama, Obama Camp Hits Back

The GOP has to answer for a war built on total lies that has cost over 4000 American lives. It also has to take credit for an energy policy, which is no policy at all, accept to make the oil companies rich, "beyond the dreams of avarice". Then there is the business of breaking the republic, as Gore Vidal has pointed out, by throwing out the rule law that goes all the way back to the Magna Carta. Then they also have to answer for looting the national treasury to the point that, no one seems to know where billions of dollars disappeared. There are many other horrendous crimes committed, but what is their answer? Blame Michelle Obama. posted 05/16/2008 at 03:24:01

Beirut Is Burning

Durango, I asked someone from Lebanon I know what is the difference between the Sunni and the Shia, I was told: the Shia are the Muslims who do not have money. So a class struggle is most certainly not out of the equation. posted 05/10/2008 at 19:30:53
I came across a paragraph from Robert Fisk, reporting from Beirut this morning, where he lives:
"But I found far more powerful symbolism in Hamra Street, one of west Beirut's two main commercial thoroughfares. More than 100 Hizbollah men were standing or patrolling the highway, clad in new camouflage fatigues, wearing new black, peaked, American-style baseball caps and -more to the point-what appeared to be equally new American sniper rifles."

A startling description to be sure. Perhaps this might be considered proof that Blackwater culture crosses all ethnic barriers. posted 05/10/2008 at 16:02:58

Obama Suggests Offer Maybe Clinton Can't Refuse

It is great to be back on The Huffington Post! In this observer's opinion, Senator Obama should forget about having the Clintons on his campaign team. Forget the noble rhetoric, this is a power struggle for control of the Democratic Party. Just look at how far they have gone, in their futile attempts to take away Obama's political viability. Conventional wisdom has it that Senator Obama needs Hillary Clinton supporters. No one in polite company wants to admit how so many have grown to despise the Clinton brand of politics, which has come to be seen as a duplicitous form of neoliberal treachery. On Course For Another White Guy Election

The idea of quoting Harry Truman is a strange one. It was President Truman who has the distinction of dropping two atomic bombs on people. The same President Truman, who, over the objections of George Marshall, quickly certified the state of Israel. The very same president that brought in the loyalty oath, and brought in what Gore Vidal referred to as the locked down national security state, thus establishing a continuous warfare society. This hardly ever gets mentioned from those who are just wild about Harry. posted 04/22/2008 at 14:05:39

Mrs. Clinton's comment reveals how inhuman she has become in her quixotic quest to become Commander-in-Chief, or is that Holy Warrior? The death of Katie Couric? Considering the kind of scratch made from this particular gig, that is one costly funeral. Obama: No Surprise That Hard-Pressed Pennsylvanians Turn Bitter

As anyone has ever read my writings, I am critical of all candidates, including Barack Obama. But it is true that the Senator from Illinois is having to contend with two rather vicious attack machines, which strangely, the democratic one is the most vicious. They will say it is elitism that causes someone to observe that desperate frustrated people do turn to irrational violent, xenophobic solutions when nearly everyone, except the ownership class which the other two, so-called main presidential candidates are a parcel of, are being squeezed every which way but loose. Intellectual empathy is not part of the American political vocabulary. So we have the Senator from New York claiming that Barack Obama is talking down to the voters. Let's see, we have Guns and God becoming attack points for Team Clinton. Now if only they could do something about Gays (Elton John You Have Been Served Notice!). Such a 3 G strategy could help Hillary get her GOP groove back.
So now we have Clinton and McCain instructing the world about the elite Obama. When you rack up over a hundred million dollars of income in less than nine years; or hitch your rising star to a woman heiress of an Anheuser Busch distributorship in Arizona, all I can say is: I've seen some hard boiled eggs in my time, but Hillary Clinton and John McCain? If strategist Mark Penn has to be moved to the back burner, so to speak, well that is just the price of doing business. My friends, we live in a cheesy time, so we should not be surprised that politics, and the business of politics, is full of cheese. You see what is most important is successful illusion, and that is ultimately achieved when fabricated myths are finally assumed to be reality. Team Clinton is well aware of this paradigm, and don't get me wrong, so is the campaign of Senator Obama. 40 Years Later, (The Late) Martin Luther King Still Silenced

Whenever I think of Martin Luther King Jr., I also think of John Coltrane. Both men in the final phases of their lives chose to work with difficult, human spiritual matters. The marginalization of Dr. King's work against the Vietnam war and for economic justice makes those who praise him as a noble symbol, rather than a living force for change, quite uncomfortable. The same can be said of John Coltrane, whose music was considered demanding and difficult, when he decided to literally "play his way over to the other side". Acknowledging the greatness of these endeavors would mean admitting that most of us suffer from a shallow perception of ultimate, metaphysical reality. Great souls help humankind to recognize that we indeed do have a soul. Truly, a remarkable accomplishment. posted 04/04/2008 at 15:35:43
