Bio
I grew up in rural Louisiana during the Cold War. I sometimes became involved in politics even during my teen years. I attended LSU in Baton Rouge and earned a lot of hours but no diploma. I played baseball during the summers and during my freshman year at LSU. I was on the LSU novice debate team and had a lot of friends both Democrats and Republicans.
I was drafted into the U. S. Army and one of those years I served was in Vietnam. There, I served in the 101st Airborne Division, the greatest of our American fighting units. I served in the infantry and we took horrible casualties in April of 1968.
I studied creative writing under Stanley Plumly at LSU after the war and enjoyed his course very much. He is a great teacher and a wonderful poet.
I married an LSU student, and we moved to Ohio and worked there. We then spent a month in Nova Scotia and returned to Louisiana. After returning to my home, I became involved in politics and ultimately campaigned for a would be Congressman who was elected to three terms in the Congress. We moved to central Louisiana where the campaigns were conducted. My politics were then very conservative. I have gradually moved to the center and vote Democratic often although I am registered independant. I opposed this Iraq war long before it started, knowing that we could not afford it and that it was outside of the American character. I have great apprehension about the future of this country. I wonder if we can overcome the corporate choke that controls our nation now.
My wife and I have three children.
