Obama Web Site Protest Grows

Guess I"m not triangulating as well as I ought to be. posted 07/04/2008 at 21:18:52
I do agree, Michale. Unfortunately, Obama. resembles Dr Seuss' Cat of Cat in the Hat. Even he doesn't know how many hats he's wearing much less what's under all those hats. It;s what Bill meant when he said we'd be rolling the dice with Obama. posted 07/04/2008 at 10:59:09

Don't Worry About Obama's Brand For God's Sake!

The Obama magic is being revealed for the smoke and mirrors parlor trick it always was. I'll swallow hard and do as Ms Clinton requests but I don't think it will do any good. She was our last best chance to get well and truly out of out of this interminable Bush decade but the people wanted more than a sure thing - they wanted the skies to open and peace and joy to reign upon the earth. posted 06/28/2008 at 23:12:51

The Big Unmentionable

Ingratitude is as common as dirt among politicians. To the rest of us such behavior seems almost incomprehensible but for those who choose public service and depend upon broad support for their success the lesson is learned early. Reverend Wright said as much. He knows that Obama's disavowal of their long friendship is nothing personal and therefore there's no need to get upset. posted 06/17/2008 at 20:35:55

What's Clinton's Story?

Adlai Stevenson. for example. posted 04/02/2008 at 07:15:32
But what is Obama's story? Fundamentally, he's a nice young man. Very smart, very personable, and very ambitious. His greatest talent is in telling people what they want to hear. He has seduced the intelligentsia, not with his credibility but with his delivery and with his implicit promise that he will be able finesse his way into the presidency. But that can never happen. The general election is not a love in. posted 04/01/2008 at 22:59:52

Everything I read about Hillary (from people like you who have met and/or worked with her) confirms me in my belief that she is a remarkable human being whose accomplishments to date are nothing to what she will go on to achieve. Her candidacy offers us a rare opportunity to elect someone who will really change the way things work for the better. And that is very exciting. posted 04/01/2008 at 00:05:03

Isn't there anything at all more interesting to you than this? The world needs leadership and you seem to want nothing but the interminable prolongation of a stupid soap opera. Such essays as yours make me feel I'm wasting my time on this site - but, having said that, you are far from being the worst offender. posted 03/31/2008 at 17:31:43

You keep throwing manure, eventually some particle or another will stick. Who in the world could withstand such relentless attack? We already have our answer. Hillary knows the game and she knows the score and she believes, because she believes in people, eventually the truth is revealed. posted 03/30/2008 at 17:26:56

Closing the Message Gap on Iraq: A Responsible Plan to End the War

There is a disconnect alright. In such circumstances it's the better part of wisdom to question one's own assumptions before closing one's mind. What's going on in Iraq right now is more important than any study of past failures - by the time we learn all the lessons there are to learn from those failures thousands more will be dead. The question is simple - are we going to protect the people who've put their faith in our good will or we allow them to be slaughtered. Again. posted 03/30/2008 at 01:14:04

There's an explicit portrayal of pride and bungling on Obama's part. It isn't what we've been lead to expect from him, but somehow rings true nevertheless. posted 03/30/2008 at 01:07:34

Clinton: Stick It Out or Withdraw?

So, Hillary can stay in as long as she sticks to an unwritten playbook you found under your pillow? I don't follow the references you quote to Imus and the RNC. Contradicting Obama isn't the same as siding with the enemy. Not yet. Not until September, anyway. posted 03/29/2008 at 20:19:11

Obama Should Think Big -- and Seat Michigan and Florida

There can be no winners, only losers, if some way isn't found to enfranchise these voters. I think, in order to avoid turmoil, there ought to be an agreement that two corresponding states with identically opposite delegate support should agree to sit out the first ballot. Matching votes is done in the senate all the time and could work in this instance if reason prevails. posted 03/29/2008 at 11:10:36

What is Obama Afraid Of? Clinton's Popular Vote Landslide?

It's 0-0 at the convention after the first vote. The delegates are then free to vote for whomever they choose. By that time, for most of them, it will be a no-brainer. Hillary will be the nominee. posted 03/29/2008 at 01:08:18

I don't worry about the general election with Hillary as the nominee though McCain will be a formidable opponent . Women, who make up the majority of the electorate, will rally to Hillary in such numbers and with such enthusiasm that, almost from the day her nomination is confirmed, the inevitable outcome will be clear to all. posted 03/29/2008 at 00:22:04

Hillary And Bill: We Aren't Going Anywhere

If neither candidate wins on the first vote taken at the convention the delegates are free to vote for whomever they choose. It will probably take three votes before Hillary finally wins. Many of Obama's supporters will be in tears but they'll take some consolation from knowing a little more seasoning, a few real accomplishments under his belt, their guy will make another run someday. posted 03/29/2008 at 00:54:26

Hillary's Bosnia Boast -- Not a Big Deal

Hillary has more experiences in a day that most of us have in a year. She meets more people, travels to more places, and does more good in this world that either of us can ever hope to do. Obama: Even the Conservatives' Right Choice

Last things first - America was practically invented out of hopelessness. Struggling against all odds and prevailing is the American way, ie. people have been looking at the moon forever but it took an American to set foot upon it. As for The American Conservative's support for Obama. Why not? Obama is all things to all people. The economy depends on steady growth fueled by ever increasing consumption. I've got an idea. We should get undergraduates to frame our foreign policy, fix our economy, restructure our trade agreements and extend March break by at least a week. The Intellectual Poverty of Frank Rich

We've since learned that much of the classified information was erroneous (to Colin Powell's personal embarrassment). Also, it is to Hillary's credit she doesn't grovel for votes by pretending to be ashamed of a vote over which she agonized and in which she believed. posted 03/24/2008 at 01:09:55

My Take

You have to admire Obama's ability to keep the left wing intelligentsia's euphoria alive. Words do matter a great deal to people whose lives depend on their ability to express themselves coherently but the vast majority need more than words in choosing their leader- they need reassurance their votes are not going to a man with questionable judgement. This they can only measure by actions. Obama's actions, ie. his close friendship with Rezko, his choosing for mentor a pastor like Wright, more than any words are defining the man and putting an end to his presidential aspirations. posted 03/23/2008 at 17:05:19

An Open Letter to the People Responsible for Cable Television News

Let me get this straight. Wright isn't a problem but somehow putting his clips (which he was selling) on the news is? What are you worried about, anyway? Obama put all this to rest with his brilliant speech, didn't he? Maybe he needs to make another speech, this time not so brilliant but a little more honest. ie. "Yes, I subjected my children to his vicious ranting for years but I only did it to solidify my base."
That would be a new kind of politics I could believe in. posted 03/22/2008 at 22:47:59

You are right PracticalMagic. It seems to me most of the contributers to this board don't understand the first thing about politics which is you don't get into politics to lose or to quit. Huge Endorsement for Obama

I'm not exactly surprised but still disappointed. This is one of the longest drawn out back stabbings in American political history. You can hear BR talking to Obama just before the Texas Primary...

Now, Barack? You need these wavering Hispanics. Say the word.
No Bill, not yet.
Are you sure Barack?
Yes, Bill, I'm sure.

And then, earlier this week with his poll numbers tanking Obama gets Richardson on the 'phone.

Hey Bill, what's shaking?
Oh, Hi Barack. How're they hanging?
Uh, listen Bill, I think now's the time if we're ever going to do this thing.
What? You think now? But Barack,.. you know that creepy pastor of yours...
Got to run, Bill. See you on the news.
