Media Outlets Slam Fox For Doctored NY Times Photos

noamjunior:

The NYT DID have a damn good article on this today, written by their media-movie guy, David Carr. He didn't pull any punches and told a good, complete story.

Nothing surprises me about Fox - but this article did - about how seriously and aggressively they attack all other journalists, cable channels, pundits etc... posted 07/07/2008 at 14:57:57

Poll: Public Mixed On Michelle, Doesn't Know Cindy

I've noticed that too, gditty - 34% of the people were "clueless" about M. Obama, yet many more didn't think highly of her - ?? Why?? Is it just because she is a black woman, or b/c she speaks openly sometimes.
I don't know anything about Cindy M. - and she hasn't been married to John for 30 years. He had a previous wife, remember? I don't have a good impression of her because she seems like a phony. Everything else is a rumor to me......... posted 07/03/2008 at 00:55:16

It's My Party, I'll Cry If I Want To

Bill ruined Hillary's campaign, with her agreement. If he would just write a book or do some good deeds, and stay away for, oh, 5 months....let him back in. Maybe a nice cruise with 4-5 women and a few poker pals. No internet! No phone!

Hillary has more power and should stay in the Senate and move up the ladder like normal people do, even Ted Kennedy.

The focus should be: OBAMA for PRESIDENT & electing Dems & progressives to the Congress & Senate. posted 06/29/2008 at 00:21:17

Random Shuffle Shocker: Old White Guys Do It Better!

Nothing against old white guys (Jagger & his ilk, for example), but you're crazy. N Diamond = rock & roll?? Sheryl Crow ? Frank Sinatra is rock and roll? What? What about old black guys or women of any stripe?

Tears for Fears was nothing without Oleta Adams. There are so many younger, black girls or even white ones I can think of that are far better than Sheryl C. So, she's pretty good & has found some good songs & musicians. Good for her.
Ever heard of Joan Armatrading, Indie Arie, Melissa Etheridge, Jimi Hendrix? Stevie Wonder, Joni Mitchell? etc. etc....OK, they're not all alive, and labels can be silly, but really.....These people changed music a lot.
Well, I could go on & on, but it's bedtime & it's not my column. :-) posted 06/29/2008 at 00:34:44

Dr. Dobson Has Just Handed Obama Victory

I certainly hope you are right, Mr. Schaeffer. As a religious (not Christian) person, I truly detest Dobson & his ilk.
There are so many forces out to ruin Obama that it will truly be a miracle of US citizens' sanity if he is elected. posted 06/24/2008 at 17:53:14

Emphysema: Symptoms, Sufferers, And Everything Else You Need To Know

My brother died from emphysema 2 years ago - he smoked like a fiend for years & years. It is not a "fun" disease to suffer from...

I agree completely with nah415. Why do her parents not FORCE her into lung rehab for this severe medical problem? Are they crazy or just happy to have her money? I don't understand at all.

Not being able to breathe is a terrible thing - I had a lung transplant (b/c of a birth defect), but this is not an option for Amy. posted 06/23/2008 at 16:14:55

NYT Public Editor: Dowd "Went Over the Top" in Clinton Coverage

Come on, mengwise36 -
You're not going to vote for the nominee?? Isn't this country and the world important enough for you to stop thinking about this as "I'm right and I'll show you!"

I loved Hillary, too, at first. I still love her - not Bill - but she didn't run her campaign well and completely lost my vote when she started saying good things about McCain - our opponent!

McCain should NOT be the next president. Period. posted 06/24/2008 at 12:52:28
Very interesting comments, Nyland8!

I've read the NYT every day for ages - Dowd - in general - has gotten meaner over the years, but maybe she's just completely disgusted by all public figures now! But she sliced & diced the Bushes, Cheney, Rumsfeld, etc etc etc many, many times. Still does.
I do think her Hillary stuff got a little too mean (I don't want to say catty). Bill is an easy one to attack, of course. I still read her...& wonder what her purposes are. Wondered why the 'public editor' even mentioned it - except they must have been criticised mightily.

Gail Collins is a fabulous, relevant & funny writer! David Brooks could be funny even as he writes his dream-type thoughts of the week (which he always pushes again on Washington Week in Review. Kristol? Well, at least I don't have to see the REALLY nasty right-wing mush - especially their horribly racist rants about M. & B. Obama. posted 06/24/2008 at 12:43:31

Honor Your Inner Guru

Thanks for this helpful (and short!) story. I will remind myself - a bit more strongly - to eat lunch. (True.)

News Flash: Anchor Stands Against "Unfair" Campaign Spending

Thanks, Mr. Cohen. I never watch ABC Nightly News (actually, I only watch McNeil/Lehrer, if that). It's been obvious for months that George S. is a terrible newsman, and Gibson is, too. Just retire, just go away.
It is SO frustrating & disgusting to not trust anything they say - and millions of people watch and presumably listen to them every day.

The entire MSM is giving McCain an easy time of it and hassling Obama for any tiny thing they can dream up. Even the NY TImes does it, and I love the Times.

I'm so glad we have Huffpo. posted 06/23/2008 at 16:40:11

How To Find A Guru

I do have a guru. I wasn't looking for one when his photo on a book he'd written jumped out and said "read me." That was about 30 years ago, when I was in college in Boston.
The book was "Autobiography of a Yogi" by Paramahansa Yogananda. His organization is called SRF and has temples in both India and the US - and now in countries around the world.
This path as helped me immeasurably. I know that Yogananda is not a phony, nor is our current president. No one forces you to learn about it, or to ignore it. and it is definitely not a controlling "cult." posted 06/21/2008 at 18:35:46

Are Nerdy Girls Sexy Now?

Wow! I just don't understand this "reality." By definition I am not a nerd (no science, math or tech degree), but I don't remember anyone caring about this when I was in college (1970's). People like me now, and liked me then because I am very smart & funny & can talk about a LOT of things with some authority (esp. music & literature, politics, history, sociology, and even about cars, Star Trek and other things. )
I always wore glasses & used to be very shy - that's nerdy? How can a rock musician be a nerd? I didn't care what I wore, generally.
What about the latest corporate and medical tech-women? Does being a sexy nerd end at age 30??

Very strange indeed. (Oh yeah, I am a woman.) posted 06/21/2008 at 19:08:32

Time for a Special Counsel to Investigate Bush Administration Use of Torture

but something perhaps like a special prosecutor outside the system with had some TEETH. >>>

I agree! I am glad some representatives are willing NOW to investigate & charge these criminals. But, it took the congress a long, long time to even mention this. I do think a "special prosecutor" is much better! Not connected to the government. And not Fitzgerald... somebody new.

Please do it! posted 06/09/2008 at 21:42:02

Hillary Clinton Concession Speech: Suspends Campaign, Endorses Obama

Machu, WHAT are you talking about? Haven't we gone through enough hatred & hostility? We are ALL Democrats (or Independents) here. Are you being sarcastic (maybe)??

The next task is to make up & get over this primary - and focus on McCain now. Obama does need her voters, and it is ridiculous to say otherwise.

Let's take back the White House, OK? That's the point - I'm not going to pick apart every word & nuance of her speech. How we came to this - every person has an opinion "They should do what I think!" Ridiculous. posted 06/07/2008 at 13:32:24

Clinton-Backing House Members To "Demand" Hillary As VP

I'm with you, Faith101. If Obama accepts Hillary as VP, it will show his weakness more than anything. I don't believe she'd be the best nominee, either. The GOP and others hate her too much, and they've got a lot of negativity they can bring out against her (and him of course).
He needs to balance the ticket. I like Webb, but he's also been in office for a very short time.

I have no problem with Caroline Kennedy, so let's just give Obama the time to decide. Usually it IS done close to, or at the convention.

Your Own Worst Enemy

Right on! I was supposed to die for years and years - since I was 6 months old - and I just kept saying, after I made it through that first bout with pneumonia - I'm here, I'll have fun, whatever happens will happen.
So now I'm in my early fifties and have outlived the vast majority of those other kids who were born with the same problems (heart - lungs). Of course, a heart/lung transplant helped me stay alive, and still does. Life is an adventure...

Say - I am strong. I am strong - no matter what. Because you ARE.
And all your other recommendations are good, too!

Contractors Punish Workers For Passport Breach

Every job seems to get subcontracted - nothing new there. We're just used to it, to our shame. It is so stupid though - this is when thousands of people have trouble getting THEIR passports in time and these people are just fooling around, looking at files! I agree with Gorgol...

There's also a huge immigration-citizenship backlog, and then an agent is arrested in NY for demanding sex from one of those immigrants. Great......UGH posted 03/22/2008 at 13:13:06

This Good Friday Let Us Not Crucify Barack Obama

Thanks for an honest & honorable post. I do hope that the hard hearted will wake up soon and see that they're just destroying their party & this election by "hating" this one or that.

What happened to our sense of reason, & intellectual & psychological good judgment? I began supporting Edwards and then voted for Clinton here in California. I've changed my mind and now support Obama. (The way Clinton's campaign has been run, her lack of transparency, and her ruthlessness now are not making me want her more. Rather less.)
The battle between the two has me very upset and concerned about the November election for the presidency - remember the MAIN idea - electing a Democrat, not a Republican! With the media overseeing and manipulating it all, I pray that they still have a good chance of winning in Nov. Right now, it's all good news for McCain.
Whoever wins the Demo primaries (w/o FL & MI) will get my vote. I hope we can all come together for that purpose. posted 03/21/2008 at 17:02:30
