Kennedy's Replacement, AP Asks Who Will Be Primed

I think he already made that clear - Barack Obama -so the answer would be - none of the above. The original Kennedy generation were far more outward looking than the current generation as a whole. There are exceptions but by and large, none of the current generation embodies the same degree of intelligence, compassion, and fighting spirit. You can probably attribute this to Rose and Joe's influence - but mostly that of Rose Kennedy. That original group - with it's typically Catholic multitude of children - was a very special environment in which to grow up. In large families, you have to be assertive to be noticed, yet if the whole is to function, you have to be cooperative, loving, and supportive of your siblings. The drive, compassion, determination, and intellect that resulted in the extraordinary achievements of Jack, Bobby, and Teddy cannot only be attributed to Papa Joe's wealth and standing. The three sons may have had privilege, but they also took the ball and ran with it - something I'm sure Rose was very proud of - particularly Ted - who pressed on for many, many years. posted 05/22/2008 at 09:07:23

Oil Executives Defend Enormous Profits Before Senate

Supply and demand????? Give me a break. What do the stupid citizens of the US think is going to happen when you throw anti trust laws out the window and allow giant oil corporations like Exxon and Mobile to merge once again? Apparently, very few Americans read their history about Standard Oil and the Rockefellers. Anti trust laws were passed to stop huge companies from monopolizing and price fixing - especially in economically sensitive markets.

i BET THE NEW EXCUSE WE'LL BE HEARING FROM THESE CREEPS IS :

WE NEED TO STOCKPILE A HUGE AMOUNT OF CASH SO WE CAN MONOPOLIZE THE WIND, SOLAR, AND GEOTHERMAL INDUSTRIES.

It's About War and Peace, Not Simply Race and Gender

Well stated Tom. The only army Clinton and McCain should be given control over should be a toy soldier army - and possibly a rubber one at that. The brash talk about "obliteration" most likely isn't sitting well with a few of our friendly nations directly down wind of a potential scene of nuclear "obliteration". I suspect Clinton didn't check with China or India or Russia about her bold sweeping plans. Or for that matter, I suspect she didn't take into account that Iran supplies a good chunk of Europe and China with vital supplies of oil with which to heat homes, power vehicles, and do all the other stuff that modern societies do with oil. Talk like this from Clinton suggests that we Americans like to elect thugs and neanderthalls to high office - not statesmen. If this is the best we can do, we have absolutely no business nor moral standing to push our brand of "democracy" on any other country. posted 05/21/2008 at 11:47:27

This entire country, with all its people, of all parties, religious, ethniic and cultural backgrounds, of all ages and positions in society - owe these two men a great deal of gratitude and respect for their unyielding defense of our democracy, its people, and all the institutions that make it unique. Ike was a very rare military man indeed - one with enough love of his country and enough humility and decency to openly its confront its demons and failings. Greed is and always will be a powerful force in the downfall of mankind. A Two-State Solution for the United States and Israel

You are pathetic delusional trash. If it weren't for the UK and the US, Israel would never have existed. Israel stole American nuclear technology while America was busy sending it fighter jets and billions in aid. Israel would have been obliterated by arab armies that greatly outnumbered it if it weren't for the US. With the current situation - it would appear that the only thing Israel has learned from the Holocaust is how to create and perpetuate ghettos of second class citizens in the West Bank and Gaza. The racial purity crap, targetted assassinations, collective punishment, fenced in encampments, restrictions on food and heating fuel, and the multitude of racist, biggotted policies - are all eerily reminiscent of the Third Reich's tactics in dealing with it's "ethnic cleansing challenges".I would say there's a lot of creeps in Israel that are worse than the Nazis were - because at least the Nazis didn't claim to know better. Chris Matthews Eviscerates Right-Wing Host Kevin James Over Obama "Appeasement" Claims

Fascism -

Fascism is a government, faction, movement, or political philosophy that raises nationalism, and frequently race, above the individual and is characterized by a centralized autocratic state governed by a dictatorial head, stringent organization of the economy and society, and aggressive repression of opposition.

Fascists promote a type of national unity that is usually based on (but not limited to) ethnic, cultural, national, racial, and/or religious attributes

Inevitably, when words like "appeasers" and "knesset" enter a conversation - the word "fascism" is sure to follow. It is an accurate depiction of reality - a Palestinian reality that we never seem to see or embrace here in our Judeo Christian hypocritical homeland. I grew up being forced to watch episodes of "World at War" almost every night by my parents. I understood very well the horrors of Auschwitz and Dachua. It pains me to see those lessons forgotten by the people who preach "never again" . "Never again" , for me, always meant - "never again to anyone, anywhere "- not just never again for those I happen to relate to or have a personal connection with. posted 05/16/2008 at 14:13:51
America should wrap these new words "appeaser" and "appeasement" around Israel's neck like an albatross. The Likud party, a few years back - began using this word to desribe anyone who dared to see the Middle East situation from the Palestinian viewpoint. They have made this word popular - with the help of corporate american press - almost up there with Islamofascism. The only appeasing America has been doing is appeasing the real terrorists in the Middle East - the one with nukes and fancy military equipment - the one that's been terrorizing and murdering in civilian neighborhoods for 60 years - the one responsible for the Shatila massacre - the one withholding food, water, and fuel from civilian populations as a means of collective punishment - the one that bulldozes homes and olive groves as retribution - the one that knowingly bombed a US naval vessel repeatedly in 1967, attempting to bait the US into war with Egypt , the one that routinely engages in "targetted assassinations" instead of arresting and trying suspected criminals, the one whos government said in a reference to its illegal nukes - the arabs may have the oil but we have the matches.....etc.....etc......

The world has been appeasing this fascist little state for far too long. The voices of any Holocaust survivors that may still exist there have long since been drowned out by the transplants that have been imported from all over the world to counter the growing arab population. Nice little fascist theocracy posted 05/16/2008 at 13:06:47

The only way to a just and lasting peace is through understanding and TRUTH. We've witnessed over and over again in lessons taught around the world that religious states are inherently inferior. Secular governments around the world have proven that true freedom and democracy can only be achieved with governments and societies that equally respect ALL faiths. Our experience tells us that the only likely solution to the Palestinian - Israeli conflict requires the marginalization of extremists - particularly religious ones - on BOTH sides. Equal representation of all people in government - whether that involves two separate governments or one in Palestine must be the goal of any honest, well intentioned individual. Anything less leads to fascism and war.

There's no question racism lurks in the shadows in neighboring states. But in West Virginia, it is a cancer running wild - in the open. To ignore it or make excuses for it suggests complicity. We will never put an end to racism - particularly the kind that people make excuses for like - she shares my values more or I just liked the guy who is no longer in the race better. Please, when people can openly acknowledge racism saying things like
"I just don't think we should put a black man in there.......I ain't racist or nuthin'..."

the cancer has clearly spread into the lymph system and is about ready to pounce on the liver in a final death blow. Ignoring the diagnosis with wishful thinking may be acceptable to you- but I hope I speak for the vast majority of Americans when I say - NO. It's not acceptable anymore. Robert Byrd has a choice - either get off your butt and denounce the ignorance and racism that has raised its ugly head amongst vast numbers of his constituents - or suffer the legacy of being the longest standing senator of the country's most ignorant and racist state. The polls back up beyond a shadow of a doubt what we've been seeing on Jon Stewart's show and YouTube. Robert Byrd has been admired as a principled defender of the Constitution and avid historian - particularly with regard to Roman history. Of all people, Byrd should recall Jefferson's frequent and impassioned warnings about the necessity for an informed electorate - without which tyranny usually prevails. America will most assuredly follow the Roman Empire's fate if the kind of racism we've witnessed in West Virginia is present in to any significant extent beyond its borders. It's time for Byrd to raise his voice once again - attempt to educate his constituents and reclaim a more honorable legacy for himself and his state. In particular, he can demonstrate his wisdom and conviction by siding with the 26% who voted for Obama - and throwing his support behind the candidate from Illinois as a superdelegate. posted 05/15/2008 at 11:14:48

While racist whites might vote more or less as a block - or more aptly put - a monolithic group of blockheads, jews - many of which have felt discrimination first hand - do not vote according to the principles of identity politics. In fact, a number of surveys suggest that most American jews don't support the right wing wackos that have hijacked both the Israeli and the US governments. If Obama presents a reasoned, balanced view that helps arabs and jews reconcile in an honest brokerage for Middle East peace - he will undoubtedly receive the lion's share of America's small jewish voting block. The main reason he has to be careful is that the corporate press is largely run by zionists who think nothing about prolonging the violence in Israel to satisfy the interests of military hardware and oil suppliers. If you doubt this, pay attention to what oil companies have been advertising on major networks lately. It should be obvious by now that big oil likes having a strong military presence in the Middle East, and without a never ending conflict - military contractors would lose a major source of income. Six Reasons Why Obama and Clinton Would Each Say "Yes" to VP

I don't think Obama is so morally and ethically bankrupt as to collaborate with the antithesis of everything he stands for. I could be wrong, but it's looking like Obama is holding off until he wins the nomination before announcing a VP - at which time, Clinton will have completely alienated herself from the party she allegedly belongs to. Recognizing that most of Clinton's supporters practice consciously or subconsciously the art of identity politics, Obama should consider a strong female runningmate who has a record of getting things done - someone like Claire McCaskill of Missouri. In reality, most HillBill supporters would ardently support any woman - as long as it was a woman candidate. Whether or not they do this consciously doesn't matter. It's reality and something the largely gender and race BLIND Obama supporters have to come to grips with. That means - most likely endorsing a female VP. But given what we've seen - it would have to be anyone but HillBill. posted 05/14/2008 at 10:30:24
Your claims about these two candidates being close on the issues is completely without merit. You have a war mongering vote pandering "centrist" democrat in Clinton with a NAFTA like free trade policy that looks more like something Newt Gingrich would come up with. Obama comes from working class roots and his policies concerning lobbyists and corporate interests bear no resemblance to the Clinton schtick whatsoever. He is gracious and conciliatory - the Clintons are abrasive and pushy. These two are night and day. The fact is, most Obama supporters are color and gender BLIND. The big problem with most HillBill supporters (those that aren't Rush Limbaugh dittoheads) is that they are mostly gender biased. I like many other males was gender biased in favor of Mrs. Clinton - but that was before she voted for the Kyle Lieberman amendment and started cozying up to the likes of Richard Scaithe and Rupert Murdoch. Moreover, her racist campaign tactics have totally soured a lot of democrats. And the 109 million dollar Clintons trying to paint the Obamas as elitists is the height of hypocrisy. Interesting how so many Republican punits are suggesting Hillary for VP - they know she would bring out the Republicans in droves to defeat her in the fall. posted 05/14/2008 at 09:18:37

If you're not smart enough to see that your country is'nt being attacked by the country you're invading - shame on you. You don't need to be old enough to see the lessons of past tragedies like the Viet Nam war. The facts about Iraq - despite a heavily biased media - were there for all to see - including the "soldiers" who participated in the invasion and occupation. And if you enter the military with the express purpose of earning a living or paying for college - regardless of that military's policies - you are little more than a mercenary - a killer for hire - and thus - deserve little sympathy when you return home with a crippled body and mind. posted 05/13/2008 at 14:00:53

The Israel I Was Fighting For

The UN didn't give anything to anyone - certainly it didn't "own" the land to give it away to anyone in the first place. The jewish refugees were dumped there because no one wanted to take on the responsibility of absorbing them. The US, the bastion of international goodwill turned ships away loaded with such refugees. These people were literally dumped there and like any unauthorized dumping - no one asked the people living in the neighborhood at the time - we just dumped. posted 05/14/2008 at 11:16:16

You would be so obnoxious as to suggest something so utterly ridiculous asskeeter. When Palestinians can travel from Gaza to the West Bank to either work or practice their religion - without being prohibited or being held up for hours at multiple security checkpoints because they aren't Israeli jews - you may have an inkling of a point. Clearly, one cannot freely open up a Catholic or Protestant church in Israel. All church activities like the Catholic and Greek Orthodox ones mentioned in the following article are under strict control of the state of Israel. The Vatican and the Israeli government have had a tense relationship since the little fascist state was formed sixty years ago - nothing has really changed. The freedom of religion you tout is severely restricted and every aspect is negotiated with the State of Israel. Get a clue before you spout complete ignorance.

http://www.nationalcatholicreporter.org/word/word0516.htm

A church source in Jerusalem agreed. "The Israelis want a national church that will swear allegiance to the State of Israel," the source said. It is analogous, the source said, to the way the Israeli government has long attempted to prevent the Greek Orthodox Church in the Holy Land from electing patriarchs perceived as hostile to its interests.

"Forming a separate church in Israel could invite government control, like the Patriotic Association in China," a Vatican official told NCR May 14. posted 05/13/2008 at 23:10:01
This is a pathetic argument. Two wrongs don't make it right. For a good part of our history, before our Constitution and Bill of Rights - we behaved barbarically. We didn't respect the rule of law. We all know better today. And Israel knows better - that's why most Israeli jews and American jews don't support the current Likud policies that have lead to non stop violence and upheaval. Most Israelis want to live in peace. Many jews and arabs have intermarried - as they have for literally centuries. They would rather have a secular - non religious state and live in peace than live in constant fear and upheaval as a "jewish" state. posted 05/13/2008 at 20:25:53
Amitai,

Did it ever occur to you that you are asking a secular state (one that believes strongly in the separation of church and state) to support another state that at its core - places religion ( in your words - "jewishness") as a fundamental component to its governance? Are you familiar with America's Constitution and Bill of Rights - which convey equal rights to ALL citizens of all FAITHS? Whether or not you wish to admit it, the country you fought for - the country that has never known a day of peace since its ill conceived, illegal conception, is a religious state that endorses and practices religious apartheid. Your attempts and the attempts of well organized groups like AIPAC to unduly influence the US government's policy toward the Middle East are not consistent with core American values that were established by truly enlightened people like Thomas Jefferson and George Washington. The policies you advocate are a disgrace to this nation and harken back to some of its worst moments in history when it imprisoned, killed, and otherwise mistreated the native American indian on the basis of some self professed divine right. posted 05/13/2008 at 20:06:22

I use to live in the metro NY area in the seventies and early eighties. I really liked Sue and Jack Cafferty. But now, I see the media with a much greater understanding. The Media's Perpetuation of Racism

It's hard to say what Obama really thinks - he's a cool cucumber that doesn't get rattled very easily. Clearly, he knows he's up against a powerful media run by zionists who seem to be more concerned about maintaining America's "unwavering support for Israel" than balancing the budget, funding education, ending an illegal and costly war, or reigning in newly merged oil giants like Exxon Mobile while they destroy what's left of the American economy. Nope, the US media wants to know Obama's stance on Israel. And they aren't apparently satisfied asking him just once or twice. It seems that any time Wolf Blitzer has a chance to talk to Obama - the subject of Israel comes up.
So what do you think he's gonna say Wolf - "Israel has gotten a free ride on our ticket and now we need to have a more balanced Middle East policy"?

OF FREAKIN' COURSE NOT!!!!!

Obama knows that corporations get what they want in American government through control of the press. Ever notice the barrage of warm and fuzzy oil company advertisements on NBC, CBS, Fox, and CNN lately? Think there could be a connection? Obama knows the big (essentially Zionist controlled) media corporations control the outcome of elections. They shape the opinions of Americans - often the intelligent ones as well as the ignorant racists among us. And Obama knows what corporations influence the media conglomerates. The guy has to walk a tight rope - skeletons in the closet or not. posted 05/13/2008 at 09:02:34

Skyrocketing Energy Prices

The option of nuclear power is an insult because most of us "intelligent" people understand what a 100,000 year half life means in the context of highly radioactive spent fuel. The only people willing to create that kind of jeopardy are self absorbed pigs who always look for the easy way out. I grew up in New Jersey. I remember clearly hearing the warnings on tv to stay inside and keep windows closed on the day Three Mile Island's accident occurred - a couple hundred miles upwind. While I admire Rahm's accomplishments, I have a great deal of respect for the Kennedy's long standing support of blacks in America - particularly impoverished blacks. The concern Bobby Kennedy had for blacks in the deep south and throughout the rest of the country was real and undeniable. The outrage the Kennedys feel when racist comments are uttered in major democratic campaigns is real and palpable - not just a show for the cameras. They have been fighting for children and the impoverished for more than 40 years - since Rahm was in diapers. And Rahm should respect that actual history - if not the current Kennedy embodiment of that history. posted 05/12/2008 at 10:21:44

How would GE, Ratheon, Boeing, and Lockheed sell weapons to the American people without a war on terrrrr or the Hezbollah boogie man knocking on the door? I have a better idea - why don't both arab and jew in palestine adopt a secular government that respects the rule of laws which have neither a judaic nor islamic underpinning? Let the moderate, non religious people of both cultures reject the extremists and form a truly international country - one that preserves, respects, and values all cultures and beliefs - sort of like America. Would't that be a novel approach? Israel, and its supporters like that bastion of compassionate conservatism - Mort Zucker love to talk about how Israel shares the United State's values. If that's true - why don't the people in the Middle East try to prove it? They certainly aren't proving very much by building a big wall. Funny - Apartheid closes up shop in South Africa, East Germany tears down its wall and a few years later - Israel starts building its own wall - how ironic....... posted 05/09/2008 at 06:39:11

The discussion is about a "jewish state" - sorry you can't see the forest for the trees on this one. Frankly, I don't care what your "holy" book says or for that matter what the Koran says or the Bible says. The more self righteous crap I see in this world every day, the more atheistic I become. For me these days, religion is near useless and religious states aren't far behind. And if you truly buy into the "jewish gene" crap, than I suggest you aren't that far removed from the Third Reich's position regarding genetic "purity" of racial groups. Maybe you'd like to take it one step further like Hitler and suggest no one inter marry with your ridiculous "Cohen gene" group. For someone who isn't very religious, it's easy to cut through the hypocrisy of both sides and get right to the heart of the matter. And like Islam is practiced in Iran, Judaism is practiced in Tel Aviv. If you took the different religions with their different customs, traditions, and beliefs out of the equation - you would never have had a conflict to begin with. In fact, the groups have a common genetic ancestry. They've supposedly lived together side by side for eons. Funny though, both think their genetically worlds apart - go figure...... posted 05/08/2008 at 21:27:26
Perhaps you didn't notice Rabbi, but the US government was formed in part with the express purpose of taking religion out of politics. We have no more business supporting or endorsing a Jewish theocracy than an Islamic theocracy. Unfortunately, most of the world's religions have at their core - the notion that believers are special and in a sense worth more than non believers. In fact, throughout its history, the Catholic faith has suggested that all non believers are condemned to hell. This is precisely why the US political system separated church and state.

Also, you state above that " no one wanted us or would protect us". You're clearly an intelligent man - and certainly you must have asked the question "why?" by now. Is it written down somewhere that all mankind must mistreat jews? And why is it the world's responsibility to find a home for them?
