Bio
I'm a Ph.D. student (ABD) in Political Science. In between teaching and writing my dissertation, I take a moment or two to analyze sites like these and the comments made by the readers. In fact, the comments have given me several research paper ideas. I am cognizant of the fact that cognitive dissonance and the unwillingness to do detailed research in order to become an informed citizen are handicaps from which many of our fellow citizens suffer, and it is incumbent upon the informed ones to help rectify these maladies.
One more thing: I pity those who think people who voted for Obama are swayed by some sort of "messianic" figure. If there are people out there who feel that way about him, that's their prerogative; I am not one of them. As a Christian, I do not give allegiance and praise to another human being. I can appreciate them for what they are, but I'm not worshiping another "ordinary" man. Granted, Obama is one of the greatest orators we've seen in a while - a bit of a King-like cadence, peppered with words and phrases that inspire. Other than that, he's just a MAN. If I go a day - a week - without seeing Obama and anyone else in DC, I'm perfectly content because as of this moment, none of them will help me achieve my immediate goal. Obama won't help me get my Ph.D.; he won't write my papers for me, or do my research, or handle my presentations. Until he can do those things, I am content to "check in" periodically to see what Washington is doing and how their actions might affect me in the long run. So, for those people who insist on the ad hominem attacks against those who support this administration, I would feel sorry for you - but, that too takes up entirely too much of my time, and you are less likely to help me achieve my goals than the people in DC. Get a life - your guy lost. The thing about plurality voting and Duverger's Law is that if one party is out of power, the other major party only needs to make a few tweaks and they could gain power in the next election. So, discontented Republicans are best served by trying to reshape and tweak their party structure so as to be successful during the next round of elections.
