Hillary Should Stay in Because She Can

I agree. There is nothing wrong with finishing the primaries with two candidates to choose from. Many people for both candidates have worked hard in the states that haven't voted yet, and they should get to see the fruits of their labor. It may even show where strategic changes are needed for the November election. All will come together at the end. posted 05/16/2008 at 12:09:18

I think this is an important endorsement for Obama, and I think Sen. Clinton should continue her campaign in order to give voters a chance to vote for whomever they wish to cast their vote for. I wish all the candidates could have stayed in the race for as long as possible. This country is about choice and having the freedom to choose- that is why the republicans platform is so warped. McCain's Murderers Row

International communications should be done through the UN. If it is in their national interest, world leaders can present their cases to ambassadors of other nations, and it should be a part of the UN record. Our country's elected representatives could have access to these records/ discussions in order to determine the level of aid they might give to another country, but they should not be receiving direct bribe money from influence peddlers. posted 05/13/2008 at 13:23:27

The Most Important Piece of Paper in America

A co-worker had Fox News online with O'Reilly interviewing McSame. The only words I heard as I walked by the computer were McSame saying that tax cuts were the worst thing during an economic downturn. If only I could have been interviewing, I'd have probed further and asked if he was going to raise taxes during the next economic upturn.

He tried to make it sound like he was really giving the issue a lot of thought- hell, that lunkhead wouldn't raise taxes even if they fell on him and pinned him to the ground! He has nothing to contribute to this next chapter of the American experiment. posted 05/12/2008 at 00:55:05

Clinton Gas Tax Holiday: Hillary Attacks Economists

The gas tax holiday does nothing but kick the problem down the road. Your little snapshot of the current supply tells us nothing about what the supply will be at the end of the summer. Nor does it tell us where the price of a gallon of gas will be settling at the end of the summer. The point is that we have to start changing our usage habits- we are going to have to bite bullets for sure. Retailing Chains Caught In Wave Of Bankruptcies

When consumers can't afford to buy things one has to assume that the economic path travelled to get to this point is flawed. Ironically, we have been to this place before at the end of the 1920's.
I disagree with your statement that "Government is the ultimate example of Murphy's Law... The intentions are good but the results are disasterous". It was the government programs of FDR that put people back to work and got our economy back on track through regulation. Enough so that we, as a nation, were able to meet the demands placed on us by WWII. From there, grew the greatness of America. The middle class grew, a growing number of children were able to attend college. People bought houses, built interstates and started new businesses.
These gains have slowly been dismantled since the Reagan years to the point where we find ourselves now.
We have to realize that unadultrated capitalism, communism or socialism have flaws. We advance only when we balance the 3 in a symbiotic way. The constant efforts to stamp out the governmental concerns (social, environmental) to appease the business concerns (markets, money) will eventually bring a very expensive lesson to us all. posted 04/15/2008 at 13:48:49

Gore Shows New Evidence That Climate Change May Be Worse Than Predicted

One shouldn't think that there will be constant devastation due to whatever stage of 'global warming' we are at. I can tell you that in 2004 after having 3 hurricanes dumping rain in my area of Florida, as well as taking on the drainage of the rains that fell in Georgia from the same storms, my property exceeded the 100-year flood plan. Several acres of beautiful oak hammock were damaged because the trees actually drowned. Many are still standing- dead- but most have fallen.

Is this proof of global warming? No, but it could be a harbinger. We haven't flooded since, but the next flood could come sooner than the normal climate cycle would have brought it.
Instead of arguing about its existence, we should consider the possibility of its existence as we move off our petroleum economy. Petroleum supplies are getting harder to get to, and its cost will only increase. From hence forth, I would think it prudent to keep as much un-oxidized carbon in its current form (sequestered), just in case its conversion to carbon dioxide has the ability to affect natural climate cycles and possibly lead to the events described by Mr. Gore in his movie. posted 04/08/2008 at 13:27:28

After 60 years of turmoil, surely we can develop a solution that is reasonable and practical. It would have to benefit everyone, but be easy for no one ( we must remember accomplishing things requires work).
Assuming that all parties involved would like to see peace in the region and enjoy security and freedom in their lives and the lives of their children, then why not construct a plan based on the following: 1) the Israelis relocate to a country of their choice ( I think they would be welcomed warmly in our country), 2) the Arab nations pay for the relocation expenses and territory- 200k-250k/ Israeli ( they should be flush with money at current prices of oil), 3) the Holy Land sites be open for tourism through some sort of UN mandate.

I think the Israelis would fit in well in our democractic society. With the monies they come with, they could afford nice houses in whatever neighborhoods they choose to live in. It might even help the housing market.
The Arab nations would feel as though they are being dealt with more fairly, and their animosity towards the West might simmer over time.
This might seem far-fetched, but it would certainly end the Arab-Israeli conflict for good. And the peoples of both lands could look to the future and maybe find peace, security and happiness. posted 04/01/2008 at 13:29:44

59% Of Doctors Now Back Universal Health Care

Eliminate insurance companies. Using their own talking point- the more people in the pool, the cheaper the rate per person- what bigger pool can there be than one which includes every American? posted 04/01/2008 at 13:42:47

Reading The Pictures: The Mighty U.S. Trained And Supported Iraqi Army

They only know to fight for their religious beliefs, and they have been doing it for centuries. We have thought we could train them to defend a democratic form of government, and they don't have the discipline or conviction to do that- they have never had a democratic form of government, they don't know the benefits of such government, thus find no reason to give up their lives for the sake of the invaders and their corporate leeches to maintain such a government that only looks weak in their eyes. Whose bright idea was this invasion anyway? posted 03/31/2008 at 11:52:42

"Countdown" with Keith Olbermann Turns Five: Hurting Democrats November Chances?

I agree with this post. It has seemed like Olbermann became more anti-Clinton as the Clinton campaign resorted to more desperate, party-imploding tactics. posted 03/28/2008 at 13:14:37

Time Magazine Asks: Can Fox News Survive After The Bush Era Ends?

I don't mind that Fox News allows views that are right of center, the problem is that they don't have anyone there to say : "No that view holds no water- been there, done that, it don't work, that's what got us in this mess in the first place!" I guess I just have a problem with the inherent staleness of the conservative view! posted 03/28/2008 at 11:50:10
Just a note to add to the mix:
C-SPAN is pretty unbiased in its programming, PBS-especially Bill Moyers program- is always good, and LinkTV has some real good programming much of the time as well. posted 03/28/2008 at 11:41:11

It's Time to Reregulate Business

No, I read the article and thought it was right on. I was just goofin' with the comment. I envisioned Grover the Noidquist using this article as a discussion topic at one of the weekly Republican 'Voodoo Economics for Dunderheads" classes. After finishing the reading he asks if anyone has any thoughts, and that's when the ranking member of the budget committee comes up with my comment. Sorry, I had hoped it would seem amusing. posted 03/30/2008 at 00:34:35
So, if I'm reading this right, all we should have to do at this point is-- cut taxes! har, har, hardy, har har. posted 03/28/2008 at 12:34:46

Flashback: Wright's Letter To NYT About Obama

Lay off the bottle, John. This is weak opinionated BS you are spewing. Hey, I guess we are all capable of it sometimes. But I don't think your base of evidence that you have provided us here about the reverend or the candidate is going to have any persuasive effects on how I vote in the upcoming election. posted 03/31/2008 at 11:35:11

Buried Lede Department: Why No Presidential Candidate Says Anything of Substance About the Disaster in New Orleans

IS there any federal land adjacent to the recovered areas of New Orleans that can be used to rebuild the destroyed sectors. If so, then the home insurance monies from the homes in these areas along with federal money can be pooled together to build New NewOrleans. The lower lands can become new federal lands and allow nature to take them over. posted 03/28/2008 at 12:09:25

When Did "Immigrant" Become a Dirty Word?

Sorry for the overall national/ constitutional ignorance. Don't feel too bad, I've had to live with it for the last 27 years, and foreign policy ignorance since the fifties! We can only try to improve the education of the young. posted 03/25/2008 at 16:33:15

Got Dolt?

I have enjoyed reading this article. It has given me a boost in spirit. Maybe there are more like myself than I imagined.

We need to advocate a mental and spiritual growth plan for the species that is no longer dependent on the fearmongering of religion. We need to advocate an economic development plan in tune with E.F. Schumaker's "Small is Beautiful" instead of the corporate Manipulator/Manipulatee paradigm. Then governence among ourselves will fall in line. posted 03/25/2008 at 16:15:41

Specter: Congress Should Cut Short Break

Who does this guy think he's kidding? This 'moderate' republican will just continue to vote lock-step with his fellow minority chumps to make sure that nothing of importance ever gets voted on. He sounds like he' s anxious to get back to running the wheel. posted 03/24/2008 at 12:19:26

Michigan, Florida, and the L-word

This article is disingenuous. The Ickes's and Carville's should have worried about these states before now. I voted in Florida knowing that the party was not going to seat the delegation. I voted anyway just to make sure that democrats across the country knew that democrats in Florida were still voting democrat. I was annoyed that the party decided what they decided, but I voted for Edwards anyway, because I wanted to vote- I already knew the fate of the delegation at the convention, it wasn't my fault, but there was nothing that I could do about it. At this point, I say leave it as is-- the way it was set out to be since last August. I don't want to hear any whiny BS from the camp of the next candidate to obviously drop out of the race. Let's move on! posted 03/24/2008 at 01:16:23
