Majority Of Americans Say Founding Fathers Would Be Disappointed: Poll

Fascism..... yeah.... there's NO resemblance at all to Fascism with what's been going on under Bush for the last 8 years......
none at all...... we're all for "Freedom" and bringing it to Iraq....... as long as they do what WE want, sell their oil to us at a discount and let us stay there until all the oil is gone........
yeah... it's all about 'Freedom'........... say it enough and maybe you'll believe......

and "Work Makes You Free" ..........

Mussolini modeled Fascism on the Roman EMPIRE - not the REPUBLIC....... and the neo-con elitists that hijacked the Republican Party believe that themasses are too stupid to make decistions for themselves.... we NEED 'enlightened' autocratic leadership like that provided over the past 8 years...... and look at how well THAT has worked for us...... posted 07/05/2008 at 22:13:58

14. Fraudulent Elections -
Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.

The Supreme Court decided 2000 in a decision that applies ONLY to the 2000 election and NO OTHERS..... a complete recount of votes was cut short....... the BROTHER of the President elect was the governor of the state that decided the electiopn..... VOter suppression was out of control - thousands purged from voter rolls, thousands of others intimidated into not voting or kep on hours long lilnes,......... clearly fraudulent electronic voting and tallying..... NO precincts in NM that used electronic tallying went for Kerry in 2004? Native American precincts registered NO votes for ANY Presidential candidate.... Ohio Prcincts showed massive differences from excit polls.... whiel the President of Diebold is a Big Bush contributor who 'guarantees' the election results..... posted 07/05/2008 at 22:08:06
11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts -
Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts and letters is openly attacked.

Damnned 'elitists'......... ever seen young Republicans at work on a college campus?

12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment -
Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.

How many people were executed in Texas under Bush? young, retarded, innocent? that was just a practice run......

13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption -
Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.

BILLIONS of $$$ UNACCOUNTED FOR, CONTRACTS NEVER COMPLETED, K Street "Pay to Play"..... too much to list....... posted 07/05/2008 at 22:07:49
9. Corporate Power is Protected -
The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.

Who are the biggest Republican contributors? How's Halliburton stock doing Dick?

10. Labor Power is Suppressed -
Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed.

OSHA - what's that? Companies writing their own regulations..... posted 07/05/2008 at 22:01:01
7. Obsession with National Security -
Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.

enough said......

8. Religion and Government are Intertwined -
Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions.

"Faithebasaed initiatives" pandering to the religious right...... posted 07/05/2008 at 21:57:44
6. Controlled Mass Media -
Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common.

Seen any photos of coffins draped in flags? Live coverage of combat in Iraq on the 6 o'clock news?...... "Fairness in Media' is dead.... loudmouthed Limbaugh and O'Reilley as "NEWSMEN?!?!?" FOX News is "fair" and "balanced?" bwahaaaaaaaa..... Even the NY Times sits on the illegal spying story before a Presidential election posted 07/05/2008 at 21:56:18

5. Rampant Sexism -
The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Divorce, abortion and homosexuality are suppressed and the state is represented as the ultimate guardian of the family institution.

'Traditional' values..... NO abortion....... Evil gays..... posted 07/05/2008 at 21:53:28
4. Supremacy of the Military -
Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.

Enough said...... the US spends more on its military than the rest of the world COMBINED........ posted 07/05/2008 at 21:52:01
3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause -
The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc.

"Terrorists" "Islamofascists" " LIBERALS"........ "DEMOCRATS" posted 07/05/2008 at 21:51:04
2. Disdain for Human Rights -
Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc.

GITMO anyone? Addington and Yoo writing legal justifications for torture.... discussions of what constitutes 'torture' in the White House - going against all historical conventions and legally justifying acts we prosecuted Germans and Japanese for war crimes after WWII posted 07/05/2008 at 21:49:41
"The 14 Defining
Characteristics Of Fascism
by Dr. Lawrence Britt

Dr. Lawrence Britt has examined the fascist regimes of Hitler (Germany), Mussolini (Italy), Franco (Spain), Suharto (Indonesia) and several Latin American regimes. Britt found 14-defining characteristics common to each:

1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism -
Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays. "

Welcome to Bu$hco - where the wealthy few keep the rest in line by invoking partiotism and religion....... Quoting Sinclair Lewis - "When Fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross....." sure sounds like a Republican campaign rally to me.

"fas·cism
Pronunciation: \ˈfa-ËŒshi-zÉ"m also ˈfa-ËŒsi-\
Function: noun
Etymology: Italian fascismo, from fascio bundle, fasces, group, from Latin fascis bundle & fasces fasces
Date: 1921
1often capitalized : a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition"

"Fascism" has also been defined as the melding of governmental and business interests so that the two are inseparable.

Disappointed? Try HORRIFIED....... Bush - and a do nothing Legislative Branch - have managed to override all the safeguards, checks and balalces our Founding Fathers put in the Constitution to LIMIT the tyranny they feared could arise in the Executive Branch.

" Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty or Safety" - Ben Franklin Hasn't THAT been what Bush has pushed to justify his actions - 'safety'?

"If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy." - James Madison Sure describes what's nbeen going on, doesn't it?

"Of all the enemies of public liberty, war is perhaps the most to be dreaded, because it comprises and develops the germ of every other." - James Madison Which explains Bush's "War President" and "Commander-in-Chief" obsession where the President can do 'whatever is needed'

This would be a perfect chance for moderate Repubs to kiss off the co-opted neo-con Bush disaster and reclaim the middle but it's not happening.

The two major parties deliberately freeze out any potential third party and prevent any 'break-offs'. They don't want COMPETITION - that's why you only get meglomaniac billionaires like Perot having an impact - he could spend his own money.

McCain's Secret, Questionable Record

It's clear that McCain benefitted from HIS family connections. He served as a fighter pilot - while I'll bet many of his other compatriots at the BOTTOM of his Annapolis class were platoon leaders in the Marines.

First, I doubt many other Annapolis middies would have managed to stay at Annapolis with McCain's history of infractions. And I'd LOVE to see records of assignments for the rest of McCain's class on graduation. Assignments are given out by ACADEMIC rank - and being fifth from the bottom, McCain was destined for the Marines as a platoon leader or some low level naval officer assignment - like 'Supply Officer' in Greenland or a spot on some logistical support ship. The fact that McCain managed to get a coveted pilot slot - much less FIGHTER pilot slot - is astounding. Pilot slots are first to go and go to the BEST and BRIGHTEST in any class.

It's also funny how ALL repatriation debriefings of POW's are classified and McCain asked the North Vietnamese NOT to turn over their files to the US. Also funny how some former POW's are rabidly ANTI-McCain, with some raising questions about supposed cooperation and propaganda tapes and the 'different' treatment McCain received. Some claim that McCain was all to eager to talk in exchange for medical treatment. Is this true? I'd like to think not, but any relevant information seems to be deeply buried.

There are far too many unanswered questions about MCCain's record. posted 06/16/2008 at 21:43:27

There's a real question about Saudi reserves - they're doing all they can to keep production going in EXISTING fields and have drilled even the most marginal areas. Yet after spending hundreds of millions they haven't found ANY NEW commercially viable fields since the 1960's.

4 dead, 40 hurt as tornado hits Boy Scout camp

LOcal COuncils do NOT have any real power the way BSA structures things. IN Chicago the local Council managed to vote down the hand picked Board, went to court to get BSA to run a slate of candidates the volunteers WANTED and WON.

BSA fought this tooth and nail. When the volunteers won, BSA National came in and pulled their charter - reinstating it ONLY if a Board BSA National picked was instated.

That hand-picked Board is STILL trying to sell that COuncil's only camp over the objections of volunteers. It's all about the $$$$$.

Claiming that BSA is some 'representative democracy' is a crock - the PAID STAFF choose the 'representatives.' And he PAID STAFF get the $$$$$ - meanwhile most camps are run down and facilities inadequate while YES - BSA NATIONAL sits on millions and millions of dollars in violation of Non-profit rules. Last time the IRS forced them to spend some of it they offered early retirement to their executives with cushy benefits. NOTHING went to benefit the kids.

Yeah I have an axe to grind..... BSA is a scandal in inon-profit circles - one of the highest paid heads with the WORST performance - which is why they're caught lying about membership on a regular basis - it keeps going DOWN. posted 06/12/2008 at 14:21:40
I've been a leader for over a decade. BSA lets most camps run down while sitting on MILLIONS of dollars. NO EXCUSE fot that camp not having a good shelter. NO EXCUSE for this to have happened when bad weather warnings ahd been issued. But 'Being Prepared' costs money.... and BSA doesn't spend money on kids.

BSA National is a con job - touting the flag and religion - while cheating kids and its membership. Low level paid employees and volunteers are treated like dirt but the higher ups are VERY WELL PAID and accountable to NOBODY. Meanwhile - even though there are MILLIONS of dollars in their coffers, demand outstrips availablilty for BSA National camps like Philmont and Sea Base.

The dozen camps our local Council used to own are gone - replaced with mudholes. Some were sold despite CLEAR conditions in the original bequest requiring that they be replaced if sold. Instead BSA stuck a name on part of a remaining property. Meanwhile the paid staff running our Council made twice what their Girl Scout counterparts made - while overseeing a program for HALF the number of kids. posted 06/12/2008 at 05:49:35
BSA's safety record stinks - the last National Jamboree was a fiasco with thousands of heat exhaustion cases. Three leaders died pitching a tent under power lines.

Scouts drown, get hit by lightning and BSA National spends all its efforts blaming 'local leaders'. A reporter doing a story on this - before it was squashed - said that parents of kids were appalled at BSA's refusal to deal with this issue and even track deaths to prevent future ones. They were treated horridly, with BSA looking to blame anyone but themselves

Scouting is a good program. Those paid to run BSA are not suitable custodians. They care only about their own overinflated salaries (the head of BSA has close to a million a year in total compensation).

Meanwhile volunteers fight to keep camps from being sold off and keep Scouting alive whole those paid to run things drive BSA into the ground. Lawmakers Say Capitol Computers Hacked By Chinese

SO when White House stafffers used communications OUTSIDE the OFFICIAL System, what are the odds that the Chinese or others were able to penetrate THOSE systems?

Given the LACK of technical know-how on the part of the Bush Administration, does ANYONE think that their campaign system was secure? - the one used for e-mails that Rove and others did NOT want anyone to see may actually have been far easier for the Chinese and others to spy on.......

Doesn't that FAILURE TO FOLLOW CLEAR FEDERAL LAW (by not using supposedly secure official government channels) mean it was possible that the Bush Administration enabled FOREIGN ESPIONAGE? posted 06/11/2008 at 21:40:37

Maria Bartiromo Warns That Obama Will Hike Taxes, Says Someone Earning $200K/Year Is "Not Rich"

I'm not saying this isn't a far higher income than most of the country enjoys but the cost of living in places like NY is horrendous.

$200,000 isn't even the MEDIAN household income in some burbs - places quite downscale from from Scarsdale or Bronxville..... It's a good enough income BUT you're stuck with rather obscene costs of living. In lots of these places, your local property taxes are $20,000 - 10% of your GROSS income.

MY brother in NC has a FAR better life on a third of the income. I have no qualms about paying taxes - but they'd better adjust deductions to reflect local taxes and costs.

What really stinks is that the SUPER -RICH - incomes in the multi-million dollar range - still pay almost nothing in taxes with all the shelters and write-offs they take. Start escalating income tax at an exponential rate over $1 million a year to say 90% for $10 million a year - with NO tax shelters and deductions and then you'll start solving the problems with our economy.

Stop allowing INHERITED wealth - yeah... gotta love the 'death tax' revisions that allowed 19 families to save HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS in taxes........

Meanwhile the 'small business owner' STILL gets screwed when they die....... I know a guy who ownwed a body shop - had to sell it when his father died to pay the taxes. Yet the Walton family keeps damn near everything from the Walmart fortune. posted 06/10/2008 at 18:13:15

Ever notice how Republicans brag about the growth in 'small business'? - What they doesn't mention is that all those small businesses have been started by people laid off from their good paying corporate spots who can't FIND any other employment..... You've got blue collar workers opeining up small engine repair shops and former executives buying a Kinko's franchise with their 401K 's - trying to make enough to get by until they can collect Social Security. posted 06/10/2008 at 11:36:02

The French in Algeria HAD French colonists and still managed to lose their war there.

THat conflict is a good parallel to our current mess. The French employed their Foreign Legion in an effort to keep FRENCH casualties to a minimum, employed torture and detention policies similar to our own - also with world-wide condemnation - yet the French STILL LOST.

The British could not maintain control in Iraq through proxy leaders without a permanent military presence and fought uprisings throughout their stay there between the World Wars. You CANNOT occupy a country and prevail if the local population DOES NOT WANT YOU THERE.

We made a mess in Vietnam failing to learn from the French example there and are following the French/British colonialist path to failure in Iraq - bankrupting our nation in the process. posted 06/10/2008 at 06:34:48

Penn - look in the mirror. THAT's why HRC lost.

She had advantages NO OTHER candidate had - INCLUDING MONEY - but managed to blow it because she listened to her 'consultants' and played politics in the same old way that's left the electorate FURIOUS at DC.

People are fed upwith DC politics and want REAL CHANGE. If they don't get it with this election, if the Democrats can't stop making excuses and don't start listening to the voters, expect another American Revolution to take back the Republic. posted 06/08/2008 at 18:00:59

Why The Economy Is Worse Than You Think: Newsweek

REAL wealth is created by 'adding value' to SOMETHING....

get ore out of the ground or cut down trees, smelt ore into metal or cut trees into lumber, make something with the metal, build something with the lumber..... grow food

Anything else is 'parasitic' - accounting, finance, etc all make money by taking some of the REAL wealth created by others as fees for 'managing' or 'selling' that produced by others.

WITHOUT the creation of REAL wealth, nothing else can exist. posted 06/08/2008 at 22:55:25
If the Fed wanted to help the economy there would have been CONDITIONS put on that cheap money:

1) Refinance subprime adjustable rate owner occupied mortgatges at a fixed 5% for 30 years allowing people to stay in houses and allowing banks to collect - instead of writing off all that money.''

2) NO PREPAYMENT penalties and late payment penalties on all these mortgages that have driven so many into default

3) Forgiveness on fraudulent refinances that have cost elderly people their houses

4) Refinance ALL student loans at a fixed 5% - some are now 19% - freeing up excess earning power and letting a whole generation afford to move out of their parents' homes

5) Reduce credit card interest rates and regulate fees - allowing people to pay off debt and freeing up spending power. Much of the credit card debt run up in the US is from INTEREST CHARGES and PENALTIES, NOT THE INITIAL DEBT.

BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO........ the banks are taking all that cheap money they're borrowing at 2% and investing it in Australian bonds at 5.5%..... THEY make money but this sure doesn't help the US economy posted 06/08/2008 at 22:51:46

Funny how most who are FAR better off than the average always deny it and claim they're 'just like most people'. Kinda hard not to laugh at that.

Private schools AND savings...... that alone indicates a financial situation FAR better than most have. And talk of being "Business owners" generally implies an ability to writer off far more of one's personal life as a 'business expense' - God knows I've seen enough of that.......

I'll confess to doing reasonably well, but will say that it's only in the past few years that we've had ANY surplus to save. Even living in affluent suburbia, it's astounding how many are living paycheck to paycheck. posted 06/08/2008 at 22:32:50
oh.... and if you though 'sub-prime' mortgages were a morass just wait until the black hole of CDO's begin blowing up...... THAT sewer of debt will make financial institutions lool back fondly to sub-prime debt.

Credit card debt ROSE 7% in March - though incomes are stagnant, unemployment is up and prices are rising. People are SPENDING MONEY THEY DON'T HAVE. They're DESPERATE - putting gas and groceries on credit cards - running up to the limit before that avenue of credit is cut off. Now the bankruptcy laws prevent you from escaping that debt - but you can't get blood from a stone (or an unemployed 50 year old who just lost his house and has no assets)

CDO - Collateralized DEBT Obligations are credit card bills, car payments, installment loans and all kinds of consumer debt, sliced, diced, tranched and repackaged into derivatives. Banks and Financial Institutions are holding TRILLIONS of DOLLARS of THIS junk ON TOP of all the sub-prime paper they can't give away.

So..... what happens when it becomes crystal clear that a good part of THAT debt is in the toilet? posted 06/08/2008 at 17:56:59
Ya think?????

"The situation we're in is nowhere near stagflation"the consumer price index is rising at a 3 percent annual rate, compared with 13 percent in 1979."

Only if you believe the bogus numbers the government is putting out..... REAL inflation - using the SAME methodology used in 1979 has inflation at 12% and unemployment at 14%.

The record 'misery index' from 1980 of 20.8 (Unemployment + Inflation) is FAR WORSE NOW at 26 if you use the dsame methodology. They're making things LOOK better by 'redefining' inflation and unemployment and GDP and simply refusing to publish other stats like M3..... if we're seeing an 18% growth of currency in circulation with a NEGATIVE GDP 'growth' - you KNOW that there's no way inflation can be only 3%.

http://www.shadowstats.com/alternate_data

Of course when government lies about inflation, all the indexed payments like raises and SS payments fall behind. Interest rates on savings - which were 12% in the late 70's because of inflation are now at 2-3% - meaning you're LOSING money at an absurd rate on your savings. posted 06/08/2008 at 17:48:53

Ugly Girls Are Easy

There's somebody for everybody.....

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" is true...... for every guy obsessing over a size 0 pogo stick, there are others reveling in zoftig curves..... some are aroused by appearance, others by intellect - or even humor.....

The saddest thing is when somone is attracted to someone for who they are, as they are - but the object of their attention can't deal with it. A friend is overweight - always has been and given her history, always will be. I suspect there's some physiological thing at work and some psychological aspcts as well - but no matter. She is who she is. No efforts to lose weight have worked - including surgery.

A guy fell for her - madly. Nice guy, attractive, no discernable negatives. Turns out he LIKES overweight women. They trigger his arousal switch. You think this is a perfect match. She's large and that's a real turn on to him. She was thrilled with him - they had a great thing going - until she found this out. SHE was insulted. Dumped him. A decade later this woman is still as she was - and still single, with no prospects in sight.

From my own pov, I was never attracted to drop-dead gorgeous women. Most had spent their whole life obsessing over the most superficial part of who and what they were. There's something to be said for 'inner beauty' - it holds up better and those possessing it get posted 06/10/2008 at 15:31:58
