My name is Julie Gengo and I am a healthy foods advocate and have been for the past twenty years. My communications and marketing skills have allowed me to help individuals and small companies promote their products and reach new audiences. With that said my goals are to promote healthy lifestyles through strategic and innovative marketing campaigns within the whole/natural foods and natural products industry. However, I am very passionate about lobbying on behalf of children so that they are exposed to whole foods during their crucial developmental years. Unfortunately, No Child Left Behind is giving our nation's children very big behinds. Schools across the nation are not required to educate children in the areas of physical education, activity and nutrition. They are feeding our children processed TV dinners with more non-food ingredients that ever before. Most of the Nation's children only get fed at school. Based on scientific evidence, nutrition and physical education/activity are mandatory to ensure proper childhood development. I can confidentially say that most of the world's problems revolve around nutrition or the lack there of.

If you have any ideas on how I can accomplish my goals please feel free to contact me. I'm on a whole foods crusade and all are welcome.

John Cusack Talks About "War, Inc" (VIDEO)

I agree with this blogger and since I wasn't able to post my own note for some reason I'm adding this comment in: Great idea John. I'm sorry there are people commenting who feel the need to criticize your efforts. You may not be an expert but you are certainly well-spoken and eloquent in all of your interviews. I can't wait to see the film. Best of luck.

Cheers,

Gas Tax Holiday? Who's the Real Elitist?

We need to get you that $10 in another capacity. This scheme will do more damage than good. In fact we need to get you and me for that matter a lot more support when it comes to food, but this is clearly not the way. It's not even a quick fix. Read the post below from standforpeace to get the bigger picture. We are subsidizing the wrong crops and for the wrong reasons....primarily junk food. By the way, milk does more damage than good. Grow your own vegetables and get all the protein and calcium you need to thrive. Much, much cheaper and better for the environment and for your body. A healthier body leads to a healthier mind and the ability to think clearer which can lead to better ideas to help you get out of poverty. posted 05/05/2008 at 13:00:59

Petraeus' Testimony: Everything His President Wants to Hear

We knew this would be the outcome. Petreaus wasn't going to budge. Anything but this decision would have been completely unexpected. And guess what, it's only going to get worse. We as journalists, citizens and pro-peace activists and believers have to figure out how we can change the course. Something has to to crack somewhere. We have to regain our energy (eat real food) and reinvigorate this movement. It obviously has to come from the people. Obama I believe is playing it safe until he gets elected. Not sure why? Maybe we could encourage him to go for the gusto and set himself apart from the pack. posted 04/09/2008 at 13:05:43

American Idol Top 8: Inspirational Song Night

To be honest..I'm not that impressed with this seasons contestants. Jason Castro stood out. His voice, flawless and inflections, perfect.

Michael Jons appears to be a lovely person, but if you are going to present yourself as a rocker and make it, your voice has to be distinctive like, Freddy Mercury, Eddie Veder even Kurt Cobain.

SYESHA definitely has star quality. I see her crossing over. Her voice needs some fine tuning. Her song choices are holding her back.

KRISTY - I'd like to see her stick around as she is getting progressively better. Definitely lacking in the confidence and performance department. But remember Carrie Underwood. She wasn't that good either in the performance department, even when she won.

David has had some amazing performances but his voice is not overly unique. He also has to write an original song that shines. Compared to Daughtry, he falls short of something called an edge.

Carly appears to be a lovely girl but everything from her song choices to her voice to her appearance, is not up to par. Her vibrato is all over the place as is her phrasing.

David A has had some great moments but his youth shows. He is a young John Mayer and needs to develop his talents more. There is not enough time on AI for this transition to occur.

Brook has a nice quality to her, but her vocal ability is again not up to the level it should be for AI. posted 04/09/2008 at 14:08:43

Katie Knows What You're Thinking

You're right Mike Du. As a journalist on a major national news program, she should be not only informing us of what we need to know but also contributing to making the decisions based on what the program chooses to present to its viewers. Our news programs for the most part have become so watered down and stylized. It's too bad that our news programming has to be a commercial entity.

I think America's obsession with her personal life rather than hard news is because the media caters to the publics lack of focus by giving them more of the same similar to giving more candy to a screaming child instead of discipline. It's the easy way out. It's also like a doctor prescribing drugs rather than helping the patient re-direct their lifestyle. We need a long term media strategy to this problem just like we need long term strategies to our nation's problems. posted 04/08/2008 at 12:25:59

The Biofuel Boom

Who Killed The Electric Car? Where are all the electric cars? Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. We don't need to be using as much petrol as we do.

Closing the Message Gap on Iraq: A Responsible Plan to End the War

My sentiments exactly. We need to stop worrying about who we are going to nominate as that will take care of itself but rather what our message is. It needs to be clear and concise just like the McCain message. I realize that this is a complex matter and as complex as this story about what we need to do is, however we can simplify the message. The media needs to be focused and stop ranting but rather supporting. Talk to the candidates and figure out what the plan is and then report this in a positive way. Stop bashing and start working strategically.

Let's start talking about electric cars again. If we are ever going to get away from fossil fuels we need to change how we consume. Electric cars will be in demand if we start talking about them again, often!

Let's also talk about the toxic food supply this is indeed comprised of petroleum-based ingredients. Artificial colors are made out of coal-tar...this is only one example.

Stop talking about what is wrong but rather what is right and what is going right and what is feasible to implement to lead us away from oil.

Cheers and Be Well!

Where Did McCain Get What He's Got "in the Bank" with the Press?

As per your final note...I believe that too many of us are focusing our energy on complaining. STOP COMPLAINING. By complaining about the media and their treatment of the candidates and the biases, etc, you are putting yourself in the same category as the reporters on let's just say Fox News. Use your complaining energy and support your favorite candidate. Only write about what their plans are and what they are doing. Showcase how great they are. Leave the attacking and negative complaining stuff to the other guys. We are better than that in that our positive approach will actually accomplish something good. Get it?

Be well,

Players, Not Cheerleaders

Why don't we call the movement pro-peace instead of anti-war which will probably manifest into more war? It's all about the law of attraction. When we refer to the candidates let's change our verbiage and stray away from words like "attacking" and "fighting." There are plenty of other ways of describing the interaction between the candidates. I'm personally tired of listening to media and how ugly everything is. Everything is not ugly. I honestly don't want to protest. I want to hold peace vigils. Change the way you phrase what you discuss to a more positive light and see what happens. posted 03/26/2008 at 23:40:14

The 100 Years War

Bill Maher you always seem to nail it and I like the fact that you always keep it light! As you've said in the past there is no one left in Iraq to quell. They are either dead, displaced or have fled. And what is up with the media in this countrie's ass? Why is the battle between Obama and Clinton such a negative thing? Because we choose to call it a "battle." Why can't we refer to this neck and neck situation as a something that is still be figured out? It's a work in progress.
